This band got me into punk(along with the Ramones) when I was twelve. No one realizes how good this music is. Punks today often distance themselves from this band because of the hipster-esque "too punk to be punk" ideology people often have, but this really was plain good music.
I'm into oi! music and reggae, now. Twelve songs and a sneer doesn't describe my life anymore. Singing about women, beer, and boots does the trick, though.

I think the reason most people say green day 'isnt real punk' ( whatever that is) is because johnny rotten himself said he really disliked green day and said they are whats wrong with many punk bands today. So yeah they are probs just copying johnny.
The main reason why people say Green Day isn't punk is because they're MTV-produced, commercial, all-about-the-looks crap.
Simply put, they care more about the way they look while playing than the actual playing and certainly care more about the money they make than the "music" they make.
Sadly, that applies to heaps more "musicians" today.

What you have to understand is that punk really ended as soon as people started trying to look and sound like the sex pistols and the other early punk bands, because that took it from being a new idea that meant something to just another fad. Kids started getting the punk hair and the jackets and all of that because they were going for a look, which had no meaning. Punk is not a look. And no, its not doing whatever you want without giving a shit, it's being honest instead of being fake.

I really thought "Hybrid Theory" was a decent album. But their new stuff just isn't my taste anymore. It's good for a band to experiment with different sounds, and I feel Green Day did that. Just now little teeny boppers go around singing "21 Guns" while drooling over Billie Joe Armstrong. It kind of ruins their reputation. I think 21 guns could most likely be Green Day's most suckish song.

This band got me into punk(along with the Ramones) when I was twelve. No one realizes how good this music is. Punks today often distance themselves from this band because of the hipster-esque "too punk to be punk" ideology people often have, but this really was plain good music.
I'm into oi! music and reggae, now. Twelve songs and a sneer doesn't describe my life anymore. Singing about women, beer, and boots does the trick, though.
But here are my roots, other than the ska I was raised on.

The main reason why people say Green Day isn't punk is because they're MTV-produced, commercial, all-about-the-looks crap.
Simply put, they care more about the way they look while playing than the actual playing and certainly care more about the money they make than the "music" they make.
Sadly, that applies to heaps more "musicians" today.

They would've gotten nowhere if they didn't. They wanted to be heard. They were given an opportunity, and ran with it. They didn't care what was "punk" and what wasn't. What you have to understand is that punk really ended as soon as people started trying to look and sound like the sex pistols and the other early punk bands, because that took it from being a new idea that meant something to just another fad. Kids started getting the punk hair and the jackets and all of that because they were going for a look, which had no meaning. Punk is not a look. And no, its not doing whatever you want without giving a shit, it's being honest instead of being fake.

I really thought "Hybrid Theory" was a decent album. But their new stuff just isn't my taste anymore. It's good for a band to experiment with different sounds, and I feel Green Day did that. Just now little teeny boppers go around singing "21 Guns" while drooling over Billie Joe Armstrong. It kind of ruins their reputation. I think 21 guns could most likely be Green Day's most suckish song.

Fitting in and self limitation is so far from punk as it can be. I guess people just like to categorize things. The members of Green Day grew up listening to those bands, and were heavily influenced by them. They're not trying to be better than them in any way.
