Hey Gritgirl...I don't support the Conservatives or Harper's handling of the crisis. However, this work is completely unfair and partisan. No economists were predicting the major fallout of Wall Street, but a recession was likely, the government didn't even deny that in early 2008. No one was predicting the collapse of financial institutions seen in late 2008. That event, which has made this recession so difficult, was never predicted.

When you consider 75% of Canada's exports go to the US, Jim should have seen what was on the horizon.

Let's be fair and objective here, Flaherty did say that it was a "global recession", and the only one of your quotes actually predicts that.

But there's also the case to be made that Flaherty was clearly just using an colloquialism when he said "no one", even if he did drive the point home. Most people when saying "no one" in this way, actually mean "very few people". :P

Regardless, he was and is wrong, I just think there are better (and less partisan) ways to show that to people.
