That was a perfect side kick!!! Amazingly powerful. As a black belt of this art I know want it takes to get this belt and you have to fight a cumeta. that is a none stop battle in which you fight 5-10 black belt fighters. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I give this guy a big congrats on getting to this point.
the guy obviously hasnt trained hard enough in prep for his test, you can clearly see his heart aint in it. having said that the other guy is bigger and that was some fucking kick haha.
By looking at this guy you can tell hes really tired from the other fights he did so i don't blame him for doing mistakes. When you had fight like few fights and been moving around all over trust me you would be as tired he is he just needs to keep hes guard up so he won't get kick like that again =]
it doesn't matter how tired he is, in kyokushin you NEVER GIVE UP. you push yourself to the limit and beyond.
i saw no technique whatsoever, the mukyu white belts fight better than that at my dojo. and at least they know not to run away from your opponent.
This is a disgrace to kyokushin, he doesn't even deserve to be anywhere near ikkyu. Good luck taking your nidan test in Japan in front of Kancho Shokei Matsui.
FYI: That was his 5th fight of the test.. Of course he's not jumping everywhere like crazy.. Plus.. He needed to reserve energy for the following fights.. Don't be so harsh guys.. I wanna know how energetic you can be when you are facing such a big dude as your 5th opponent. ;) Kyokushin Forever!!!
@cheungkwokho How much control is used during this style of sparring...Just curious, you guys must not have to get up and go to work the next day....It makes me hurt just watching...
if this is his first sparring, he better drown himself in a creek cause no black belt should fight like that! but i think this is not his first sparring!
ehh, this is a blackbelt test fight so you don`t know how many fights he already had to do, this could be his 40th fight. 30 or 40 fights are normal at kyokushin blackbelt grades and then there`s the rest of the stuff, kumite and stuff, so really can`t just judge based on the info from movie, :)
what determines the belt ranking? How long you have been involved at the particular karate school or how many opponents you've beaten while sparrring?
I have beaten 6 but loses 2 times at first try. These guys are slow my opponents was way faster and even decided jump to hit me on the head XD they're higher than my belt rank so I think belt doesn't matter only indicates how long have you been trained, I have trained for 8 months but my class was 4 times a week
nope, white belts go to yellow first (like me now) within span of 6 months training then pass the test. orange is after yellow, but it's for Shotokan I don't know about Kyokushin, I just know after white is blue in Kyokushin
Why practice a martial art if all you learn to do is to amble around like a bear in pain. Neither demonstrated sharp and intuitive techniques in attack or defense. No guard and no demonstrable confidence that any delivered attack would actually do what hours in the dojo promised. One good head butt, head kick, elbow or straight punch and it'd be lights out amigo...he'd be in pieces down at the local bar.
These guys are terrible I would have knocked either of them out with strikes or a high kick within like 40 secounds both these guys are terrible....Im a white belt in Jujitsu
Its custom to turn around and sit down if your opponent is out for a moment. I can imagine that a kick like that will blow the guts right out of you :P
this is quite simply all that is wrong in the martial arts, if indeed it is to prepare one to survive a violent deviant attacking one. Either knock eachother out or get kit on and make proper contact rather than playing at full contact and when you take a thick one sitting on the floor.
yes, he might have sucked and was flung like 20 feet from that side kick but atleast he tried...badly. he should have blocked that side kick, he had like 3 seconds to react. oh well. it was stil funny.
OMG, I laughed my ass off when he side kicked him at :13. It was awesome how he just flew back right out of camera view. It must have hurt quite a bit though.
What you all may or may not know, at a black belt promotion test the candidate usually has to fight all black belts in the school before being promoted. This is after form, breaking, etc. He may have fought many before this guy and was just exausted and that side kick didn't help.
I agree, everybody is jumping down this guy's throat and maybe there was 3 hours of testing that came before this that they haven't seen. The fact that the guy picked himself up off the floor after that kick and went back to fight without a peep of complaint says a lot of good about his spirit.
Those who watch 1 1/2 minutes of video like this out of context and condemn this guy to 9th kyu have very poor spirit and respect.
@Tyrolean187 I agree as fighting in any official karate grading is usually the last part of the grading! However i will point out that a karate grading under hanshi steve arneil (9th dan) is a day and a half long at the british summer camp! The other thing to mention is this may not be affiliated with an official kyokushin group such as the Ifk which hanshi himself formed or the Iko in japan! Osu!
not train much at kumite? it's kyokushin karate aka full contact karate i sure hope they do alot of kumite. I think that kid got hurt real bad on that first kick and couldn't recoup. That's his own fault for not being aggressive at all in the fight.
@Flyingtart yeah and they look really slow.. I train Wado-Ryu and I know there's a huge difference but those kick would be so easy to block/hook.. haven't seen their kihon but their kumite needs improvement :P
Yeah they don't exactly look impressing... but maybe they both were really really tired before they started filming? I don't know. Still looks a bit lame.

That kick from :13 how I looked at it was because you never turn your body straight to your opponent which he did and left alot of wide open spots.

Yeah, what Duiveltje said,
With alot of these tests they have you fight a Kumite, where you fight a continuous fight against multiple opponets with little or no break.
So by the 3rd fight you're dragging ass unless you really work out your cardio.

they're too slow. I can beat them easily if that's how they fight. I'm at Kyu 8 and I trust in what my sen pai said "Jangan takut sama warna sabuk".
(Don't be afraid of belt colors) Even white belts if they trained hard enough, they can even beat black belts.
