There are lots of things that I think government can do well. The National Health service in Britain is a great and good thing, as is the BBC. Infrastructural programs like road building and bridges cannot be undertaken on a vast scale by private contractors. i believe in a minimum wage, healthy school means for children who may not have much money at home, universal literacy, and I do not know of one conservative who would mandate the dissolution of the US army: which is a government project.

Spending can also revitalize an economy, if the money is used properly. Investment in North American oil or other sources of energy would reduce your dependence on foreign oil and create lots of jobs. Recognizing that most of your oil comes from Canada through extremely ineffective means though. Alternative fuels might be a better investment

There are lots of things that I think government can do well. The National Health service in Britain is a great and good thing, as is the BBC. Infrastructural programs like road building and bridges cannot be undertaken on a vast scale by private contractors. i believe in a minimum wage, healthy school means for children who may not have much money at home, universal literacy, and I do not know of one conservative who would mandate the dissolution of the US army: which is a government project.

Financial crisis, real estate collapse, bankruptcy of GM, BP oil spill. The government payed for all of these private sector failures. The government spent money to try and revitalize the economy. Govt programs like the EPA have been responsible for hindering more industry growth more than ever before, it sure as hell wasn't some private firm. Govt entities like the federal reserve for tampering with interest rates and govt housing programs promising loan guaranties even to those that couldn't afford them, these are some of the TRUE causes of failure.

They hinder oil production here in the states that would create jobs and less foreign dependency and then turn around and give billions to Brazil to fund offshore drilling.I don't have the room to go into all the examples,but I can say our govt is out of control with wasteful spending at the same time strangling further growth

@drunkenpumkin. Some of what you just said was right. I feel like we have different standards of what is wasteful spending though. Spending can also revitalize an economy, if the money is used properly. Investment in North American oil or other sources of energy would reduce your dependence on foreign oil and create lots of jobs. Recognizing that most of your oil comes from Canada through extremely ineffective means though. Alternative fuels might be a better investment

That's why I never really have full trust in the govt to control ALL the resources. Right now we have a lot of bugs in the system causing it to run very inefficiently, we just need to shake em out.
