Even though they call it America they probably have heard of the abbreviation 'the US', And who doesn't know that it's called the United States of America even if they normally just refer to it as America?! And btw. the show is not from England, it's from Australia. It's this whole other country;)
But apart from that. Like dubro87 said, they probably did about 200 interviews and then just selected the 20 people that gave stupid answers. It's very biased.

people that came to the new land thought they were indian because christopher columbus wanted to travel to the west indies...thus called them "indians" becuase thats what he thought they were and didnt know they were in america instead of the west indies. so technically this doesnt really matter but the proper name is native american.

What I find most upsetting is the fact that you could ask people in any country these questions and they wouldn't know half the answers. And you can say that's not true all you want, but you'd be lying. How many people in any part of the world can tell you *anything* about South America or central Africa or southeast Asia? Being the "greatest" doen't necessarily mean having the most money. There are other forms of power such as military and social influence on other countries. The stock market is bad because, partially, people bought houses they couldn't afford, and now can't pay back the banks - which causes a ripple effect to Wall Street. Besides, not all Americans think that other countries are bitches...
