  • Yeah the colony missions are fuckin' hard. My main problem with the 2 level missions in this game was that it wouldn't let you recover stuff left on the surface (including stuff in your sub), although I finally got a patch for the DOS version that fixed this. But yeah its a lot harder than bases in X Com 1. The access lift on the surface level is particularly a nightmare. Btw, I'd grenade the tasoth instead of the hallucinoid. :P

  • wow wow lol

  • learn from this guy

    youtube.com/watch?v=qDf-cL5pT0U

  • what i hate about x-com ufo defense and x-com terror from the deep is the mind control. It's simply insane especially when the aliens are spamming it like crazy and take control over half your team. Of course it goes both ways, you can even finish the final most daring mission 5 minutes with the mind control. It's crazy and i hate it.Second think what i hate is the aim of your operatives. They are supposed to be the best of the brightest, what's with that lousy aim ?!Other than that, great game!!!

  • @sylfamas @sylfamas The mind control stuff can get bad if you're not prepared for it. If you can identify the race behind alien activity, try to avoid engaging large sites with psi aliens (particularly ethereals (ufo) and tasoths(tftd)). Some of your soldiers are weaker to the MC attacks than others. If you see them always going for certain ones, you know which they are. You need to capture a live psi alien (ethereal, tasoth, etc) and build a psi/mc lab to begin training your guys.

  • i'm never go to colony assault without tanks and mass-attack weapons =X

  • def a troll vid and really funny haha. the game i worshiped love it.

  • For all you fucking assholes that are bashing this dude and (the few) that are actually coming up with your leet helps and hints - He knows exactly what he is doing.

I played this fucking game for over a year, and I can see he's a pro. He's just making this "fail video" for fun to lure out the trolls. And you ate the bait, you suckerssssss..

  • @Pissedman pro? wow wtf do you play on easiest setting?

  • no manches yo con 8 soldados paso la base para mi q eres un baboso la vdd

  • Well I've very nearly finished a colony mission in my Let's Play, so woohoo!

  • Comment removed

  • haha noob, from the beginning i knew you had 0 chance

  • First of all, arm all your people with the same weapons, and whatever armor you happen to have. Use both magna grenades and the sonic ones. Also, everyone should have a medkit. If not, then you are seriously screwed without decent weapons, armor, and grenades. Also, never, ever, in your whole time in TFTD, ignore both a USO or a Terror mission. When I build a base, I usually have my sub pens at the top of the screen, with only the airlock right under them, then the rest of the stuff under that.

  • attack a base with only gauss and no tanks? it's tough enough to beat a terror mission with only gauss.

  • lol the game is ace! and u got owned,. good old mind control

  • Oh fun. You got your ass kicked. By a giant jellyfish.

    FEAR THE SQUISHY.

  • To be honest im not good in this game BUT i know that to attack a base without a strategy or some good equipment is... What should i say?

  • lol What The Fuck is that!

  • lmfao haha holy christ, that was brutal.

  • You have no strategy, you command your aquanauts like a scared chicken and you havent researched the better weapons, why did you attacked a colony without sonic cannons? or heavy thermic lances? or disruptor pulse launchers? Dont blame the game because you are not good enough to play it! There are many people out there (including me) that know every bit of the game and can take out even that colony without losses. but not with that weaponry you brought with you.learn patience first, then play ;)

  • ...Why did you put the grenades in your guys's hands? You should never want that there. It makes your accuracy crap and it means that if you get brainwashed you've got a friggen grenade in your hand.

  • Why the fuck do you hate silent hill!?!

  • its not day because you are very deep, by the way you are playing very very bad!!!

  • It's not unfair, it's a video game. It's supposed to be a challenge. The AI has set patterns and cannot adapt to your tactics like a human player can, so it compensates by throwing numbers at you. It's good that colony assaults, artefact sites and the like are so tough, it gives you a sense of accomplishment you wouldn't get from an easier game.

  • it doesnt look like day because you are REALLLLYYYYYYYY deep underwater sunlight doesnt go that far

  • You're getting some pretty good FPS on this. My rig hates DOSBOX. What are you running this on?

  • Look at most X-Com video on YT and you see how players just play this game too fast and make decisions too fast! They are still thinking modern game style! How many video's have the gamer, like this one, using all their movement points up, in order to search the area quicker, or the one's that bring all their men out in a tight group around the outside of the ship and then complain when their all killed in one go from a grenade!

  • TFTD, like all the great games, do not expect you to attack everything. So if you luckily find an alien base early on, do not think that means you can take it on - that was a modern game would be like, but not games of the 90's! For example, the Daggerfall manual (a 16 year old RPG from Bethesda), actually says if you re-load after every mistake/failed quest, etc you will miss a lot of the game!

  • And, yeah...

"Also unlike the first game, the guys with the big explosives (I have no idea what it is here, but it's bigger than the Blaster Launcher's area of destruction) are waiting outside"

T'was a launcher rocket. The BIG explosion was made by your primed grenades...

  • Yeah, TFTD hates noobs...

How could you imagine to ruin the base? Why do you bother with gauss? Have you tried to use additional ammo? Why Thermal Thazers, ypu should capture all you need already by April, 1? Where are the blades? You'll be kicked by lobsers without 'em! Use some armor at last!

You can't save the Earth of badasses with your bare penis alone, you know...

  • lol, i never play this one i only play the demo of x-com apocalypse i really like this game

  • loving ur vids man, i completed terror from the deep but not the first one, saw the muton vids first, fun to see ur reaction to the new alien technology haha

  • Is this your first time playing because everything is surprising you?

  • No tanks, too few grenades ..

  • ....How the hell did you get autocannons in TFTD? Glitch, or abuse of xUtil?

  • Hydro-jet cannons exist in tftd. Look em up.

Silenthill has to be the worst xcom player I've ever seen.

  • Dude... This video is simply an epic collection in famous last words :)

  • xd it was funny. But here is a good advice . In order to destroy a colony you need ion armor and sonic weapons, else it is impossible. As you may khnow, there are 2 parts. In the first part all you have to do is just go in and kill anything you find in your way. in the 2nd part, either kill all aliens or destroy their supply machine. I reccomend you to do the 2on option. It is on level0 , in the middle. , it is a small room just down from the middle stairs of level1. hope i helped you

  • "Supply machine" or control center is not always in the middle but quite often. Like you said, don't ever try to assault colony without decent armor, sonic cannons, heavy thermic lances (you'll need them against Lobster Men at 2nd level) and I also highly recommend disruptor launchers and aquanauts with lots combat experience and high M.C. strength.

  • are you serious? was that your first time reaching a colony? You acted kinda like you have no idea what youre playing there

  • You should have kept the game. It's more fun to play it ironman style. That's the way I played on the first Xcom. If a terror mission goes to shit, oh well, no reloading. Then you have to figure out how to deal with all the soldiers lost and the PR hit. It made it more tense and fun.

  • i know this is old, but you need a higher tech and weapon level :/

  • 1:45 LOLOL

  • Because it is Deep

  • "Time units reserved for auto shot", wielding a blasta rifle?

I just watched over your video, but my advice would be to spread your aquanauts wider - after all, you got exploda-toasted. Also, the accuracy percentages given in the shot menu are independent of the distance and even independent of whether the shooting aquanaut can see the target (set up snipers).

So much for constructive criticism, I just can't hold this one back:

You put the "Colon" "Ass" in "Colony Assault"! XD (sry)

  • Sorry, but this is clearly an Assault Fail

  • win for this comment!

  • 1:45 - "WOHOOU...woou...woooho--hoou...hooo..hooo..huuu waaathe fuck is that "

  • First time i saw this, it was without sound. Still funny.

  • Lol at the spazzing hallucinoid.

It's like *FLAPFLAPFLAP* "OH MY GAWD I'M SO FUCKING STONED"

  • I started Colony attacks after I got the Magnetic Ion Armour AND the Displacer/Sonic tanks.

As for the Sonic weapons, I prefer the rifle.

And of course Heavy Thermic Lance for Lobsters, Tseths and Biodrones (they do not explode when using the Lances).

  • Lmao!

You should have taken everyone out of the ship, so it would have been a (roflmfao) massacre right at the begining.

  • Although, really, at least TFTD's colony assaults are more realistic. It seems like the aliens in UFO Defense had an open-door policy with their bases.

The colony assault in TFTD remind me more of the final Cydonia mission from the first game.

  • First of all, you mentioned you had no strategy, so you are playing chess without caring whether your pieces are taken, and when they are, then the computer is a cheater? Play a little strategy next time, the game takes patience

  • The game is not unfair, first off, there are many levels of difficulty. Even if you play at medium difficulty, if you head in a base with alot of noob soldier without knowing their MC strength, you're gonna get owned. Anyway, its already been pointed out

  • its suicide to assault a colony not knowing your mc strength and wearing no armor, i mean you can get away with beating them with some luck and throwing your recruits away but only if you have mc labs built and you have hand selected the squad, but tbh you should be in ion armor by the 3rd month, mc labs should be up by like the 4th, any sooner and you wont know your MC strength, MC disrupter can be hard to get if you dont run into tasoths, but now that i think about it you could raid a colony.

  • or you're going to save and load a lot. freaking lot that is.

  • Ugh-- I remember playing Xcom and Xcom Terror... spent my whole life trying to move my guys into position, just to get everyone killed or panicked or mind controlled or so forth... what a frustrating game!

  • u suck at this game and fail at life

  • yea but i can tell he is hitting research bugs, i played this game for a couple years before i gave up because of the bugs, i have revisited it many times in the 12 years or so that its been out now i am master on beginner, now i need to replay on superhuman with no save abusing.... xD.

  • a really good tip once you get the research stuff all figured out is when you move your guys using sonic blastas or cannons move them saving for auto-fire, i know they dont have auto fire but this ensures you can pivot and reaction fire, i find the save for snap sometimes leaves you with just enough to fire but not turn during the enemys turn, never anywhere have i seen this tip not in any strategy guide, it works really well.

  • my game usually goes like this gauss rifles before 1st terror on 6 of my guys, i kill a deep one and stun one, then i research deep one corpse, aqua plastics, plastic aqua armor, if i nabbed I.B.A in a cruiser crash i then do tha next, followed by live deep one, i ignore ion armor and get mc labs, i recruit about 40 soldiers and make 4 mc labs, i weed out the weak mc strength ones over next couple months, make a crack team, use fodder as meat shields to train the good guys by sniping out of rng.

  • once you get a good team then armor them up get medi kits, get magnetic ion armor ( i play patch v2) get mantas, use ajaxs, milk gauss for awhile then get sonic blastas and work towards sonic oscillators (finish all sonic research) mc disrupter is usually next tho i think i am a tad bit late with getting MC disrupters and might be better to get faster even over armor, but tasoths are rare sometimes, by the time lobstermen start showing up i already have blastas and they are usually 2-3 hits.

  • He throws grenades at closed doors. He fires a sonic cannon into the dark hoping to hit something at random. He hits the ground and thinks he hit an alien. He doesn't arm his grenades ahead of time. ... total noob. sigh.

3d, this game is not like Xcom, where the laser rifles remain good all game long... you NEED to research those sonic weapons first, because once the lobstermen come, nothing else will bring them down.

  • Except for melee weapons, but then you have to worry about getting close enough to use them...

  • 3:56

Wow! i remeber how intense that could be seen a streamer heading right for your trooper!

  • Omigosh, you were so bad at this game! Everything about your play was just wrong!

Presumably you've given up on it. I doubt you ever successfully raided an alien colony. I never fail!

This game is not that hard, you just need to have at least half a brain. Seriously, if you want any help let me know because in this vid you just make yourself look silly, especially with your comments on top. "We clearly arrived during day", yeah but the colonies are deep so it makes no difference, duh!

    K

  • Your commentary was awesome.

I remember having just spent 50+ mins on a stupid alien artefact thing, but the feeling of accomplishment is amazing.

  • omg i laughed my ass off!! "there it was" hahaha

  • This games is cool but tought

  • i agree that game looks like turky gibblets

  • I love how you said: "Woaah woah woah woa WOAH what the *** is that!?" That made me laugh! XD

Though I wish you better luck next time

  • Well, this game wasn't concepted for morons that cannot think.

    Sorry m8.

1st - good r&d. Learn to produce and sell to make $. Never rush into enemy base with such profane equipment and untrained soldiers.

2nd - good tactics. Y r having a large crew kept in small place & exposing them.

3rd reduce crew to 6 & use as two squads. Use tanks. R&D armor, sonic weaponry, pulsewave, mind control. This is the way to go.

Finished@hard difficulty no problem. XCom2 is the best part in the whole series.

  • I also think that TFTD is the best in the series (since Genesis was cancelled :( --- seems a great loss to gaming). It was even eerier, more difficult, had more weapons, and more varied missions. Top notch.

Did you know that in 2007 IGN listed UFO Defense as their #1 game of all time?

Unfortunately it had a major research bug that was later patched. For a few years, I could never finish the game, because I would research the Tasoth commander before having some other T'leth prereq.

  • @lin545

the base building part appeals more to accountants than tacticians if you ask me. that part of the game could have been streamlined.

  • @rebelanarch

Sorry I disagree. Geoscape are two different equally important parts. You can build different types of bases, radar, intercept, mixed, storage, manufacture(for $making). Also according to how you set the bse up, you have different experience upon alien direct attack. Tactical was there and building base of blocks is much funner than setting values, so I personally like the way it was. Thanks for opinion though.

  • @lin545

"Geoscape are two different equally important parts. " = "Geoscape and tactical are two different equally important parts. "

  • I played this after finishing X-Com, and I vividly remember feeling that Terror From the Deep was scarier because it was always so dark!

  • gauss weapons are the best!.. thermal launchers for the lobster ships. yea yea yea sonic weapons are better, but you can reserch sonic weapons late and do very well meantime.

  • Theres 2 factors for darkness.. If its day.. and if the site is deep. This site is deep. Nice work on the chemflares i use em for deep missions too. No need for aqua armour to take a colony, just high bravery. Nice video !

  • i've only watched about 45 seconds of this video, and i can tell it's going to be a massacre

  • 39 seconds into the video and I'm already wondering how you got to the point of an Alien base without even the primary armor upgrade first, not to mention whether you're aware or not that a second item in the off hand severely jacks around with two handed weapon accuracy.

Kudos on even having the flares, and you deployed those well, just at max range.

After a few watches I started noticing you putting your experienced at undue risk, too. 5:10 killed two rank 2's and one rank 3 all at once.

  • it doesn't look like day because you underwater? just a thought

  • The strategy sucks - the fact it dark is it's UNDERWATER. Notice how the sunlight does not get underwater when your deep down - as in Terror from the DEEP!!! :)

But the vid has so much entertainment value and the commentary is ace, absolute ace!

  • ...Oh and notice how the AI has his men panicking and going berserk pretty quickly? That's fantastic AI for you. Command badly and the men under your command react just the way they would in real-life!

  • your right it takes me like 5 hours just to beat one base back before i had the updates to the AI now its nearly impossible

  • At the whole beginning, guy's agents didn't even have recharge clips, what are you talking about?! The first tassoth had a guided missile launcher capable of screwing up all the team from the first shot. The guy should have been veeeery careful in getting all his dudes out of the submarine and storming the front.

  • This video is great for the sheer entertainment value. The commentary is priceless!

Nevertheless, I think its unfair for you to judge TFTD based on your performance. I have seen your EU video on base assault and there you made all the preparations you failed to do for this mission.

Also, TFTD is generally harder and so needs more skill/patience. Where is the MC tech, the ion armour, the disrupter pulse launchers and the weapons platforms that are present in your EU colony assault?

  • Tasoths rock, they're my favorite X com race. You learned how strong they are the hard way!

  • Also, never ignore a terror alert, those things take priority over everything. If you ignore them, you pretty much lose.

  • Also, the Gauss Rifle is a Two handed weapon. You will lose accuracy when firing it if you have something in the other hand. Unless you're planning on grenading first. THAT I can understand.

  • I like to keep my guys alive. All you have to do is save right when you get into the battle. Save A LOT. Like each turn or so. If one of your guys gets killed, just load your last save. Keep file 1 for your Geoscape save, and 2-10 for all your Battlescape saves.

  • That is exactly what makes the game not fun.

  • Uh... no. That alone doesn't make it not fun. I just try to keep my original guys alive.

  • I remember when I beat this game on impossible while playing a self-imposed ironman mode. A lot of blood, sweat and tears, but fuck it felt good at the end.

  • Damn I wish I owned this game.

  • This game is now available on Steam.

  • Dude. Thank you so very much. You could've just read my comment and said to yourself: Poor bastard doesn't even know it's available on Steam- and moved on. Lol.

  • Torrent use you must, young secretary!

  • M.C Distruptor + Distruptive Pulse Lunchers + Thermal shock luncher = Win

  • M.C Distruptor + Distruptive Pulse Lunchers + Theramic Lance = MOAR Win

  • True it is easy to kill lobsterman with hand to hand combat lol.

  • Dude, if you're gonna try a base with that equipment you gonna get pwned bad...

  • My tatick is send sws out to scan area for aliens.

Then use distuptive luchers to remove strong resistance then send out my aquanauts to capture panicked and unarmed aliens muhahahaha.

  • @AshUlysses you have to capture a live crab tehnician to build mantra and so on.

Just use MC reader to see who is a tehnician then use shock luncher.

  • Thanx, i'd read sumthing about that. I normally kill those lobstermen rather than even consider taking 1 alive. Will get back to it soon, if itz 1 thing i do b4 i do itz complete TFTD. Sad i know. ps used to love exploring downed dreadnoughts, the spoils u get after completing the mission can b sold 4 mega bucks. Never even knew about better visibility when exploring by day! Even this guy knows that but i've still done very well, although i hate artifact sites, PS always crashes on them.

  • I made a mistake you have to capture a live crab navigator and that will unlock the research for magnetic navigation and that will enable you to produce magnetic ion armor + mantra + new sws.

But mantra is pretty useless as transport it can't carry sws's :(

    Triton or leviathan :):)

Capturing the live crab or any technician will only reveal alien ships like name, usage etc...

If you want to advance fast just capture aquatoid medics they will reveal other creatures like tasoth (M.C distr)

  • You were massively under-equipped. Go into a base mission without the right stuff and yeah, you die. To be honest you moved too cautiously; the first thing you do is try to get inside. Less chance of you being wiped out by blaster launchers there.

  • I played on the PS but couldn't produce Mantra or Leviathan or locate T'Leth, think there was a missing branch in my research tree although all else was done

  • On colony missions i used to send guys out as far as i could in all directions and when the aliens became visible i'd get another guy to grenade them. A vehicle and mind control r a must. i also used the disrupter launcher to blow a hole direct 2 the main chamber, then another shot right in 2 the main chamber, watch the aliens panic!

  • no tactics, no strategy, no plan, nothing

  • Crab people are hard not jellyfishes lol.

Once you got ION armor they can suck your cock.

But dude this game is fair it's just you don't know how to play it.

When I come to colony I already have ION armor, distruptive pulse launcher and MC reader lol.

  • This game may be hard, but not unfair. you´re just not good and patient enough to play this game. And you were totally under equipped.

  • That's Microprose punishing fans of X-Com for mind controlling Ethereals back in Enemy Unknown.

The two-stage shipping missions are a nuisance too. After surviving the surface fight, you've got a massive closet inspection ahead of you. There's usually one Xarquid hiding in a closet it's too big to get out of, and kills half your team with reaction fire.

  • I have to say I love this game and it just makes you have to step up your game to beat a base. I have gone on base raids and lost no one.

    First off ALWAYS carry flares.

Second ALWAYS use 2 man deep teams.

Use your front crews to scout for the crews that have better firing accuracy

Third DON'T put a grenade in the hands of a guy unless you intend to use it that turn. Activate it then clip it back on belt.

Last MIND CONTROL is cheese stop using your guys and pound ground with your enemy! GL

  • I finished this game a lot of times, really cool... but, i've never use flares... man, using that items with disruptors must be very cool to exterminate aliens

  • Having said that, if ANYONE knows how to download this game and get it working on Windows XP, please tell me!

  • You can buy it on steam somehow.

  • That was fucking hilarious!! Mate, you got owned!

  • Lol, the jellyfish takes priority? They're not to be feared, its those bloody tasoth's and brains!

  • love it :D

  • Gauss Rifle are kind of puny ... Get cannons ASAP. Also the tanks are a must, they cost but are more expendable than an experienced aquanaut. Actually you can not afford to lose highly experienced aquanaut ...

  • the tazers were a step to right direction, you can win the game by capturing the aliens at the device at lvl 2, just pack them in your backpack and flee, if they wake up while u carry em back, just stun them again. you only need to play one colony :)

  • I love this game im surprised he didnt get raped by a freckin tentaculat f disruptor launchers xD

Anyways you shouldnt raid colonies or artifact sites without decent armor, ammunition, and experienced personel. Quantity does not be quality. Except for lobstermen missions giving somebody 12 primed sonic pulsers and making him run into them is well 1444 worth of damage muahahhahahahah

  • *high fives* you know watching this, I was literally thinking during the first turn, I bet they get raped by tentaculats, the aliens were merciful and gave a relatively quick death instead ;)

  • >_>b

  • Dude if you want to know how to raid a base ask man...Holy hell were you under equipped...Those Jellyfish things can only attack at close range they are a minor threat you have much bigger fish to fry!!!!!!

  • Actually its an extremely rare occurence but the Hallucinoid's AKA the BIG JELLYFISHES have a frost blast they rarely ever use it though. And word of the wise to the guy who made this never try doing these missions at nighttime or else prepare to have casualties

  • nice tactics dipshit

  • Oh boy... the colonies where the last thing i tried in the game. With enough AMMUNITION and better soldiers its easy.

  • It's a good idea to save your game at the start of each round and keep 3 savegames when you are in action. That way you can backtrack a bit if things go sour, or in your case, really freaking bad.

  • WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH!

    WTF IS THAT?!?

    lol

  • Owned.. xD You failed because your tactic sucks! This game is great if you play it right...

  • HAHAH Owned!

  • I think they purposely made that one harder, for the players that got so good at the old one that they'd set it to superhuman and it still wasn't a challenge.

I always liked the old save every turn trick, just reload if anyone dies. Voila! flawless victory XD

  • There was a bug in old X-COM. No matter what difficulty you set it to, it was Beginner difficulty anyway.

Heh, I know it's kinda old comment, but perhaps someone will read it :)

  • love the narrating haha:)

  • I always use small Squads of 4-5 Aquanauts and go in SAS style.

  • Lol I had the exact same reactions as you dude on all parts of alien colony missions, even with the Hallucinoid (giant jellyfish). It's just so unfair as hell.. The only way I've ever done it easy is to make a few super soldiers in psi, that being draft 100 or so and take the psi resist of 100 being the cream of the crop, give them the best armour and train them that way.. And still theres those stupid giant brains that come out of nowhere and turn your troops into zombies.

  • even though this was posted a year ago i dont know why the heck you kept going after that bomb thing went off, sorry i forgot the name as i havent played in a while.

  • It's hard because u have too many weak psi aquanauts. reload and make those guys drop their weapons and grenades so they cant kill ur own people.
