I usually do not care for his voice. But, he sings this song absolutely perfect. His ornamentation is spot on. It takes tremendous breath support to sing this song at this tempo, and he does it so effortlessly. His high register isn't as heavy on this song either. That's what makes this version the best I have heard. The rest are all amateurs and should strive to sing half as good as this.
This aria does get quite a lot of recognition as it is one of the standard bel canto song books, practised by every singing student worldwide. Perhaps because of that, it is little performed in public
Not to disrespect Pavarotti, but I prefer this a bit faster. It's supposed to be a happy song, and I don't quite feel that at this speed. Granted, the text could be taken as longing or slightly mournful as well, but the setting is most certainly joyful.
I think this is the most beautiful song in my "26 Italian Songs and Arias" and one of the best in the world? I don't have words to describe it but my shining eyes told me so. And I listened to at least eight different singers tonight.
bhorowitz2534, I completely agree with your critics. How can somebody publish such an ugly caricature at the end of this beautiful aria?? Apart from the tastelessness in this particular case, Pavarotti has not deserved it at all to be sketched this way.
@tenorisimo1975 it was just a bit of sarcasm, i really like the song (i did it my first semester of college. Pavarotti did a great job as expected, but when i see the caricature of Pavarotti i found it funny and completely forgot about the song i just heard. (it didn't help that i skipped ahead to the end so i could hear the trill)
Deep sigh ... this is absolutely beautiful and perfectly and gracefully interpreted by Luciano. He felt what he sang and accompanied my life throughout many years. He went too early and is unforgotten.
Blimey this is slow...yet Pavarotti maintains the line to perfection. What a master...I definitely prefer his voice when singing this kind of light repertoire rather than the heavier roles where he throws his voice around too much.
This beautiful song written by the little known Bononcini doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Very few other arias can compare as far as sheer grace and beauty is concerned. Pavarotti certainly does it the justice it deserves.
pavarotti at his best. i wish his voice hadn't changed, or he hadn't decided to start singing heavier. at this tempo this song is almost impossible to sing. or at least sing it like him.

@Desigovia Sorry but you must be really "new" (to say the least) to fine music and great singers to take Maestro Pavarotti's voice (a voice than only happens once every 100 years) for anybody else's! Terrible to read your comment, no ofense, and hopefully one day you'll come to understand the size of the nonsense you wrote here!
@patoajeno Please read my comment again. I think you have misunderstood it. Nowhere have I made any "nonsense" remarks about Pavarotti. I saw the young Pavarotti back in the early 1960's when he came to Australia to sing with Joan Sutherland. I have been a fan ever since. As far as being "new" to fine music, I have 38 more years on you in listening to "fine" music. Please have a look at the favourites on my channel and you will find I have a great liking for classical music.
wtf SERIOUSLY...who are the three ppl who disliked this....get a fucking life.

Sé que son voces e interpretaciones incomparables y no me canso de escucharlo a Luciano en ésta. Sin embargo recomiendo escucharla a Joan Sutherland.

Luciano is so incredible, even when he's not soaring the skies his incredible voice keeps it's strength and can touch a heart.
Especially mine :)

listen again from the beginning -interesting how many times Pavarotti seems to want to pick up some phrases and the ORCHESTRA was schlepping...
(-; but you are right-only he could sing this tempo....(and Dame Joan)
