    yes, I know!

  • funk 48? LOL

  • Lol, it was great to tbh

  • this is how great these guys are. There's only one dislike, and that's obviously the person who said "I strongly dislike the use of the word faggot here"

  • I strongly dislike the use of the word faggot here.

  • @grannygear Do you KNOW what a 'FAGGOT' is [in 'old English']it's just a piece of friggin' FIREWOODXXXCreashonrebel....so what's all the fuss about???!!!!It's all in the MIND!

  • @asphyxxx Ummm, Joe's been clean and sober for over 17 years now...

  • This video has something like 190 likes and 1 dislike. Who's the dumb-ass who doesn't like this music? Right?

  • @dav0113 probably joe walsh, he's pretty high all the time and he probably didn't know what this whole you tube thingy is all aboot

  • @asphyxxx Beauty, eh?

  • Soooo good.

  • I like this one more than #49, dunno why.

  • @Cream234 me too

  • @Cream234 It's probably the bass, the scatting and the solo. :) What made #49 great was not only the guitar but the drums. But I dig this too.

  • My computer is too slow for this song... takes about half an hour to listen to it, it seems like... Real good song, anyway! Yeah, I'd like to hear the other funk-numbers too! Thanks for uploading!

  • One person can't groove.

  • this is the shit right here

  • At least your brother hooked you up! I had to steal the good Music from my sister...LOL

    49 & 48 are both great!

  • I Never knew that another " Funk " Existed...Thanks for enlightening me...

  • i can not listen this song in library F**ck !

  • the only good thing to ever come out of cleveland

  • i want all the others forty seven funk songs

  • Love this album. Remember it well from when I was in the 7th grade, thanks to my friend's "cool older brother"

  • THE NEW MATH>>> 48>49

  • I sure am glad you can post comments on youtube. Where else would we find stupid arguments about shit that isnt going to change anyone's mind? Marvelous. I'm mostly drunk at the moment, and I'm going to drink a toast to the people who actually post informative, positive comments. If you dont like it, shut up, and fack ooooofff

  • joe walsh ruled in cleveland, oh...cirus erie west and the agora will stir a few memories where this band played when they were just starting out

  • This Band is so much like Grand Funk , But not quite as good.

  • @SL0E978 I think they're at the same level. GFR had better bass JG-better guitar They both had great drummers

  • This one's funkier.

  • this riff may be the 48th they tried but it's the first in my heart

  • This is okay, but Funk 49 is better

  • Thanks for the memories.

  • I haven't heard this song in years. Saw the James Gang live at the Ohio State Fair. A strong pungent odor permeated the air throughout the performance. Thanks for posting.

  • In my opinion the songs sound best linked together like Heart Breaker and Living Loving Maid.

  • Wayyy better than Funk #49.

  • Play that Funky music white boy. Thank you Joe Walsh. Rock on

  • What's all this talk of digging for donkey dong?

  • 1 person is an absentminded doofus.

  • it is wrong to post this song without the introduction......hope the younger crowd buy's the record to hear it....

  • @drumier why whats the intro?

  • @dlm9293 it's three of them spouting select dictionary words randomly check it out

  • Why isn't the James Gang in the Rock and Roll Fame, instead of that faggot Bon Jovi?

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 First of all, Bon Jovi is good and deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Second of all, you shouldn't be bashing other rock artists.

  • @nico12497 Fuck Bon Jovi he has no talent and is highly overrated. You can't even call him rock cause in reality he is a pop artist and not a good one either at that.

  • @cs19eighty8 fuck bon jovi? fuck you. bon jovi does have talent and how is he pop?

  • @nico12497 Fuck me? You don't even know me asshole and Bon Jovi is TALENTLESS!! The only reason he made it big is because of so many horny girls and housewives plus the amount of people with no taste like yourself. How is he pop you ask how is he rock? Just because he dresses up like a rock star and every now and then hits a power chord in between his usual bland corporate pop music doesn't qualify him as rock.

  • @cs19eighty8 how is he not a rock artist? his songs are all rock except maybe a couple. and yes, fuck you.

  • @nico12497 Wow your real big cursing me out over the computer fuckin pussy. You must be real lonely how you gonna diss me you don't even know me. Fuck me nooo! Fuck You! and newsflash Bon Jovi is pop you pussy ass bitch.

  • @cs19eighty8 yeah, guitar, drums, bass, and no auto tune is pop, right? listen to a fucking pop song and then tell me that bon jovi sounds like that, assclown

  • @nico12497 Your not gonna change my mind man. I said what I had to eat a dick you pussy.

  • @cs19eighty8 how about you eat a dick, and i'll put my dick in a pussy

  • @nico12497 No thank you and you ain't foolin no one you are what you eat dick!!

  • @cs19eighty8 fuck it...we obviously both have our opinions, so just shut the fuck up. i like bon jovi, you dont. so i guess we're done here.

  • @nico12497 Your right we do obviously both have our opinions but your the one who seems to have the problem shutting the fuck up. If you had realized that instead of calling me names and attacking me for my opinion we would of been done and none of this would of happened so don't tell me shut the fuck up cause you brought it on yourself buddy and yeah we're done here.

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 because rock and roll hall of fame is for girls

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68

Well, Bon Jovi sounds great too, but I agree that these guys should be in there as well!

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 And isn't Madonna or someone like that in there? I thought it was the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame. Now it's kinda like the Hall of Lame.

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 you answered your own question, Joe don't suck

  • now why would you put this up without the the intro? fix it

  • Man, this a fantastic groove ! What a great sound - Thanks for the upload, Chris (Flying J) ?

  • man these white guys have soul!!!!!!

  • so if this is funk 48...and theres funk 49....does that mean there's 47 more funks by the james gang that they never released??? things that make yo go HMMMMMM?

  • @moejonz I emailed Mr. Walsh about this very question a couple a' years back. His reply was that they had a bunch of funk grooves laid down and this was #48 on the list. (Since he spent time in Ohio I wondered if it had anything to do with routes 48 & 49 which run through the SW part of that state. The above was the reply I got.)

  • funky as hell.....

  • It is the funkiest!

  • why does everyone think they were copying so many people? i used to go listen to them at kent state university. joe walsh is just a plain old funky, bluesy white guy. always was, always will be. oh, and this was long before sly released anything.

  • Ohhh MAN, what a kickass piece of funk mastery! Always liked this better than the more popular #49; I feel it's just funkier!!

  • Better than Funk 49. Joe got soul...

  • I got this record at a flea market in 1978 for a buck when I was 14. As a bass player now, I am impressed with how full and punchy the bass sound is on this song. Tom Kriss' bass solo is done right: cool melodic little riffs and he cuts out at just the right time. This was recorded just before the phrase "bass solo" became a cue to run for the hills.

  • Something I noticed and appreciated about their first album was that it was almost an hour of music -- the longest-running LP I had back then.

  • Eric Crapton has nothing on Joe Walsh. James Gang is much more entertaining than Cream or the Yardbirds or Derek and the Dominoes (no offense to Duane Allman intended).

  • @mdonnelly1971

I agree,,Claptons great.. Page Yes ! and so is Jeff Beck,,But Joe Walsh,,,something about his timing and pure white guy funk...awesome !

  • Sly and the Family Stone was not the first to perform scat.

  • To MattHatter, this song came out after Sly's hit with the scat vocals. If anything Joe Walsh was influenced by Sly.

  • love it

  • Does anyone know what ever happened to Tom Kriss?

  • This is how bass should be played in a trio.

  • @DouglasWatts Yep, sounds like he was listening to Jack Bruce, considering tone.

  • @DouglasWatts - Absolutely - that long scale, 2-pickup Gibson EB-3 thru stacks of what - Ampeg? Marshall? Sunn? I love warming up with this, & on a good day I can kinda/sorta almost play it - haha. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)

  • One of my favorite bass riffs of all time. Thanks for posting.

  • this cant touch funk 36. But if pure funk is your thing check out funk 11.

  • Comment removed

  • @vbforge Now we all know that it all comes down to the mack daddy of them all. That is Funk #1 dude.

  • Tom Kriss plays bass on this song and album.

On the next he was replaced by Dale Peters.

This is a frighteningly good debut album for a band from Cleveland.

  • @DouglasWatts

dale peters is the original bass player ..kriss comes later

  • Very koooool especially for the time it was recorded! It's got such a laid back feeling compared to funk of nowadays. Love it!

  • nice.

  • Was it not Funk 49?

  • Theres a funk 47 48 and 49

  • can you please show me funk 47, ive been searching for it for like forever

  • wow i've always loved song more than funk 49

  • Great tune!!!!! love the "funk"

  • Makes me wonder how many of these 'Funk's there are...

  • there was also a funk #47

  • @Natefunk49 OK, now it's gone 2 years since your comment, but: what? Was there a #47? By The James Gang? Where???

  • love this song so much hahaha

  • Wow...I forgot about this. I like it better than 49.....funkier baby

  • I love the way you talk ...... baby

  • I wonder if Sly and The Family Stone was an influence on the creation of this song, it certainly sounds like it with that scat vocal break down!

  • Wouldn't be surprised. Joe surely dug sly - parts of rocky mountain way sound like he'd been listening to their Sex Machine over and over

  • LOL, you're right, I didn't even think about that until you just mentioned it. The whole rhythm of "Rock Mountain Way" really does sound like "Sex Machine."

  • @MattHatter Yeah, it was all relative.

  • i think on live shows, joe should start this song then do a medley merging into funk 49, then the bomber, then walk away to end shows.

  • this still sounds so fresh!

  • Before there was a funk#49 there once was a funk#48. There is a little over 1 year time lapse between the two. 39 years later and I'm still waiting for a funk#50. It's time Joe.

  • Great song from a great album by a great band. Sounded like they had alot of fun recording it.

  • Joe Walsh said they invented this song for a sound check.. It was so much fun to play, they put it on an album....

  • this tune sounds great cranked in my car going way too fast on a sunny day w/some bud! :)

  • I'll get the funk out of here.... once this sweet jam is over! GREEBOO BOWW DOOOW DILL BOOO (thats my joe walsh guitar noises)

  • Everyone believes they grew up with the best of all music but listen to this kick ass jam & you'll know that WE REALLY DID, y'all!!!

  • I still like Funk #49 a little better... It's just one of my favorite riffs EVER, but I'll admit, this one is still awesome and a whole lot...funkier lol.

  • @Thexxman123456

I like funk 49 better also because of that extra bit of funk.

  • Always a huge fan of Funk 48. Listening to Joe play the lead.... makes me wonder how stoned he was. Perfect stony lead (if you know what I mean).

  • NO! What do you mean?

  • best if enjoyed completely blasted, on MAX volume.

  • JAMES GANG OHIO'S FINEST....BRAVO

  • All I remember was the killing of students, at Kent was it?!

  • kent it was, the hippies deserved to be arresed for spitting and such on the cops, not killed.

  • You got that right!

  • You know Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders was there at Kent State when the whole thing happened, watching it all from one of the building's windows. She said it looked like all the Guard were going to back off, they all started walking away in a huge group, then they marched up this small hill on the campus, stopped, and then turned and fired into the crowd. She couldn't understand why they did what they did.

  • Black Light on in my bedroom at night, ..posters on my wall,,and The James Gang on my sterile-ee-o Funk Out 48 & 49

  • What the Funk

  • What About Funks 1-47? O.o

  • joe walsh love that dude he rocks......

  • I play this all the time on the jukebox. I actually like it better than Funk 49, which is also great.

  • I agree. I like this even better than Funk 49. It's my favorite of the funk series.

  • Way better than Funk #49.

Funk #48 has funky written all over it.
