The movie is 77 into the Fire. It's based on a true story of 77 volunteer students who fought to their deaths against a whole North Korean army at a school in Pohang. They lasted long enough (I think 11 hours) to allow the South Korean and UN armies to regroup and counterattack. Had they not have been there, the last defense of South Korea would have been overrun.

Only in 1927 was students in the communist camp, in 1934 during Long March the Communist only had ill trained militia (students with self learned military skill or equalivent of prsesent day "Internet warriors").

In 1945 after Japan surrender, Mao recruited many former disillusioned Nationalist soldier in his camp and thus in 1945-49 the Communist turned from a student protest group into a professional army (and also received shitloads of arms from surrendering Japanese).

@VarukerVaruker 71 - Into The Fire. It's a Korean movie about the Korean war 1951-53. Amazing movie, I recommend it! If you have a blu-ray player, do like I did and buy this on Blu-Ray - it's well worth paying a bit extra for better quality.
