"You left the stable door open, now you got trouble in the barnyard". This is pretty awesome. Devo were notorious troublemakers for Warner Brothers. I'm not sure if this skit predates any specific interactions with the record company or was just another example of their amazing prescience
Nice negro mask at 4.30.. Devo probably never ment to be a music group, that was never theyre main ambition, the music was just a part of the, devo expressional artconstilation. Devo is a fenomena.
HELLO,,,,,HELLO------ IT'S DADDY KNOW IT ALL HEAR & I'M NOT HAPPY,,,,,ROD---ROD,,,,GET THOSE BOYS BACK IN THERE YELLOW SUITES or I'LL HAVE TO CLEAN HOUSE...... KILLER.....WHERE'S PTS 1,,,,2 & 5???????
Avant garde bizarreness, but then that's Devo for you. Sometimes they just don't make sense at all, but then again they probably don't want you to understand them completely anyway lol.
Smeg Head? I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that the creators of the British TV show were Devo fans. I looked up the word smeg recently, it's pretty disgusting!
Michael Schwartz was so appropriately odious as Rod Rooter. Anyone know what Michael is up to these days?
I read an interview with Jerry where he said everything Rod ever said was pretty much taken verbatim from meetings they'd had with real record execs. I can believe it.
and some great guitar in 'A New Way To Be' from about 4.58 in - shame it never became a full blown track. But Devo dolls? As if Devo would ever allow that to happen!
Saw devo in '78 when I was 17. This video played before the band came out. I went from being into disco with no direction to a devoid artist and never looked back. The most significant artistic moment in my life! Now I am a multimedia producer, lighting designer and I have DEVO to thank!
I love this skit! I bought the compilation DVD several years back; some good stuff - but it didn't run true from the Men Who Make The Music video and it misses alot of excellent skits. I found a copy of the vhs tape online but can't justify paying $54 for it. Any spuds know if this will ever come out on DVD?
i always wondered what song that was in the club DEVO scene.... anyone know?.. i've heard there is still so much unreleased stuff that never made it on the hardcore volumes... the world is ready for vol.3.

The best part of this video is when Alan is explaining chess to the old lady and she says "What a dull game."
And the best part of the movie itself is that they have this segment and no follow-up at all, which makes it all awesomely pointless.

It will not be released on DVD because of a rights issue. Thats what Jerry said to me at the last show.

I asked Gerry Casale about that song - his reply is below:
"The song was called "A New Way to Be" but we never recorded a final
version. We wanted to make circus clown music meets rock and that was
our first attempt. GVC"
gadgetman2000 4 years ago
oh!.. thanks.. i guess this "demo" version we are hearing never leaked out?
