I was just reading about a kid who was beat nearly everyday by his grandparents because he was gay--they beat him with a 2x4 trying to make him be straight--how fucked up is that? I have to say with many of the things I have seen that homophobia has a long way to go and it is till seen as ok to make gays the punching bags of society.
In the near future people are going to accept homosexuals just like people accept African-Americans now. Society USED to have extreme prejudice against them but over time we have learned to accept. Humanity is becoming kinder and more tolerant :)
I'm proud of Don for being honest. In the South especially (Bible Belt central) that's probably the worst thing you can do, is come out. Religion is a big deal down here. We can't help how we feel about what we like, you don't choose to be that way. We like what we like, no matter our orientation. Also, who would choose to be ostracized and hated by society? I was almost knocked on my ass when I saw it was Don Lemon. He asked me how the book was and if it was better than his? He wrote a book about himself and was compelled, in the interest of honest disclosure, to share that he is gay. Is there any chance that nobody was going to ask him about it afterward? No way. @JordanjamesX Not true, I met Don personally and he was very nice. I went to his book signing when someone walked up to me and said hello while I was looking through, of all things a biblical book. I was almost knocked on my ass when I saw it was Don Lemon. He asked me how the book was and if it was better than his? I laughed and said, well I don't think you can compare the two? we talked more; he told me he liked my shirt and proceeded to the front. After his stint he waved goodbye to me.

Why would he say God made him this way??? @ProfMTH It's easy to be cynical and assume that Lemon's motivation to come out now is merely to sell a book. He wrote a book about himself and was compelled, in the interest of honest disclosure, to share that he is gay. Is there any chance that nobody was going to ask him about it afterward? No way. It's a big deal when a high profile person comes out as gay, because so few such people do in order to avoid the harsh judgments of those who think they're inherently better than gay people.

This is sort of similar to saying that all bisexuals are promiscuous and can't be in committed relationships. What do you mean by "molested or separated"? And I can only think you haven't spoken to many gay people. I do think that many young gay people feel shame from growing up in a disapproving society makes them vulnerable--but they were gay before the abuse.
