  • What do you use for the power buttons and where do you get them. Also what do u use to paint the sabers chrome

  • For power buttons, I use whatever I can find--caps from magic markers, small pieces of wooden dowel, clothing buttons--anything I can scrounge up that looks good.

The chrome isn't painted---I just use chrome plumbing parts.

  • what kind of Dremel tool did you use? I ask this because my dad got the Dremel 200 for Christmas and he does not know how it works.

  • I used a handheld Dremel with a cutting wheel. It produces a lot of small sharp metal fragments, so make sure you were eye protection.

  • you mean "wear"

  • how did you make the cutouts so well?!

  • 1 question if you cut the chromed steel pipe wouldn't the chromed finish come off

  • Wrap tape around the handle before you cut it--that way you won't scratch the finish.

  • can u please make a tut on anakin's lightsaber cuz hes my favorite character and i want his saber

  • I could have it done. Which model though his episode two lightsaber or his episode version?

  • episode 3 version

  • I love your videos. I'm currently making a lightsaber. I will post a video of it sometime

  • i love these there great

  • Sump pump tube. It's plastic.

  • which lightsaber do you like best that you have made because my favourite of the lightsabers that you have made is the qui gon jin based one sorry for mis spelling

  • thankyou :)

  • im sorry but what tool do you use ? i couldnt hear properly

  • A Dremel tool.

Any hardware stpre will have them.

  • hey i was wondering if you would be able to add like a pole or long round stick or something into the umm metal bit sink thing or whatever the lightsaber would it fit if you glued it because if so im going to go buy those parts and make two identical lightsabers one with the pole or stick and one without

  • To add a blade, see my "Lightsaber Tutorials FAQ" video.

  • Art Attack? lol xD

  • whats the power button for Plo kunes light saber?

  • why use the light saber on the qui gon jinn one

just beat the sith lord about with the power button

  • does the wooden dowel fit in every lightsaber that you've made ( which are awesome!) I was just wondering.

  • Some of them need more foam padding than others. Depends on how wide the pipe is inside.

  • Okay,thanks!

  • Hey, I have question, does the pvc pipe painted with chrom silver paint looks like metal pipe, or does it look worse? It's important, because I want to know if lightsaber made from PVC doesn't look like metal lightsaber.

  • It looks worse.

  • thx, I'll look for metal pipe then

  • Which jedi was Clo-Kune?

  • Plo Koon, he was from a Kel-Dor race.

  • were did you find a picturer of plo kunes lightsaber? please reply

  • i rated all your videos 5 stars:)

  • sorry for bothering you but i was wondering what was the power button for your Qui-Gon lightsaber

  • It's the nozzle cap from a small spray bottle.

  • thanks!

  • you should make the power butten on quigons saber not as tall its already really awsome but if you do that i my opinun it would be super awsome

  • i'm gonna make that last lightsaber you made! My school is going to have a costume party 18th of february and i'm gonna go as a jedi!

  • Thanks a lot, subscribe I will. I will try to get 2-3 pipes and stuffs at any hardware shop I can find. Although, in Sweden there aren't lots of 'em..

  • hey Iflank, what is the tubing called again, i really didnt hear it that well

  • Sump pump tube.

    Also called bilge pump tube.

Lowe's and Home Depot have it.

  • I'm not much of a sew-er, so I've never tried to make one. Since they're not very expensive to buy, it was easier for me to just get one online.

  • You are so awesome. I'm buying stuff to be able to make 5 lightsabers. 2 normal, 1 qui-gon cut out style, 1 un-joining maul, 1 permanantly joint maul. I love your tutorials so much. My long term goal is to get effects stuff like Effects lab pro and a good camera so I can Make fan films. I SUBSCRIBED! :)

  • hey thanks the idea of the gie-gon jins saber. i use your idea but i put a different design and it is cool. thanks

  • the first looks like an master replica the second is sweet but the purple part i don't really like and the third is awesome but i think it needs a little more decoration but there all sweet!!!!!!!!

  • i love seeing how star wars and lightsaber building doesn't only apply to kids, but adults too. awesome hilts btw

  • Bah, I'm just a big kid. ;) I remember standing in line overnight decades ago when "Empire Strikes Back" first opened in theaters.

But as a former college English major, I find Star Wars fascinating. It is mythical literature, in the truest sense of the word. A hundred years from now, people will still be studying Lucas's epic, just like they currently study Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey".

  • i like your tutorials! Thanks for the help! i'm drawing the conclusion that there isn't exactly a right or wrong way to build a lightsaber prop, but to basically build it how ever you want. I plan on building my prop as simple, as cheap and as cool as possible.

  • Yep. The only thing I try to illustrate is how to fit various parts together. Other than that, the key to making a good lightsaber is just to do what looks good to you.

    :)

  • You rock iflank. Amazing how simple & realistic. I made one with a drain. One thing I discovered in the process was I taped up 3 C batteries and added them to the handle to make the weight more realistic, and instead of using a marker or button - I used a piece of tinfoil to stop up the hole on the side and filled it with epoxy then colored it red once it dried. Makes the button smoother. Am making a yoda saber for my kid - will film it and post. Thanks dude - this was awesome.

  • uuu thats y i asked him 2 make an ankin 1 cuse i dunno how

  • c'mon dude!!make one out of yourself imagination!!!it'll kickin'asses much more than anakin's one!!!anyway Iflank, dude u're awesome this really helped me out i'm gonna work on my sabers ASAP!!!thx again from Italy!!!

  • can u make anakin from episode 3 lightsaber pleez

  • or maybe just a rough idea of how YOU would create it..please im begging you =(

  • u ruind qui-gons lightsaber with the button make it shorter but the rest are cool:)

  • wow u are awesome!!!!!!

  • wow man this is awesome

  • what kind of glue

Hey could you please please please please PLEASE make a obi-wan episode 3 lightsaber if you could, i would REALLY LOVE to learn how to do it! i've been wanting to make an obi wan ROTS saber. Please, help me! i will be very grateful

  • See my "A Couple More Lightsabers" video.

  • I'm working on it.

  • can you post a vidio afa ll you lightsabers

  • oh my god lflack u rock i subscribe

  • dude nice job.but next time put a blade in it

  • See my Lightsaber Tutorial FAQ video.

  • that first 1 is more like obi-wans than qui-gons. on the vader saber how did u shave the lego piece

  • Yes. Although it was inspired by Qui-Gon's saber, it does look more like Obi-Wan's.

I used a half-round file to shave down the inside of the Lego block.

  • sorry if this has already been asked, but what is the name or part number of the dremmel bit you use plz?

  • It's a cutting wheel -- I don't know the part number, but every hardware store will have a cutting wheel for a Dremel tool.

  • hey im planing on making a lil vid with my firends, 1.25 pvc tube you used can it be longer like 3 feet? and will it be sturdy if you extend it? thanks

    "No Judgment"

  • For attaching blades for fighting, see my Lightsaber Tutorial FAQ video.

Don't use PVC pipe for the blade -- it breaks too easily, and it can shatter into a lot of very sharp shards. Not good.

  • ok tahnks

    "No Judgment"

  • dude your awesome but will you try to make a mace windo tutorial

  • I don't make copies of the sabers in the movies. If I want a copy of a movie saber, I can buy a nice one in the toy store. I prefer to make original designs, not simply copies of what someone else has already made.

But with some imagination and some different parts, anyone can adapt any of my sabers to look like any other saber they want. What's important is NOT to just copy my sabers step by step, but to use the basic principles I illustrate to make your OWN designs. Be creative.

  • a gold lightsaber sort of light mace's but not exactly would be pretty awesome.

  • Dude, your awesome, your ideas are great, I've already made 1 lightsaber hilt based on your ideas.

  • you do sound like a nerd guy but thats what makes this video awsome....i like your ideas, i made a few handles from ACE hardwear

  • is the but cap just glued on or does it fit inside or outside the pipe

  • It's just glued on.

If you want to, though, you can cut a short piece of 1 1/4 inch pipe, glue it inside the saber body so a half-inch or so sticks out, and glue the cap over top of that. That would make it sturdier, but I've never had the butt cap come off anyway.

  • Grate video I know people might ask this a lot but do you think you can make a obi wan lightsaber that he had in episode 3?

  • you can use the second method that is in this video to do that.

  • Yep. Find the narrowest pipe you can that a blade will still fit into, and build everything around that. Use a sink faucet handle for the butt cap, and a Lego block or something for a control pad. If you are good with a dremel tool, you can even cut grooves into the large PVC section to make it look like the grenade body that was used in the original movie prop.

Using the same basic principles I do, and with some different parts, you can pretty much make a saber that looks any way you want.

  • would you be able to make a Count dooku saber and tutorial?

  • the qui gon one is the best

  • Wow. You rock. I especially like the last saber, it's probably my favorite.

  • is your wall full of weapons?!

  • lol yeah i wondered about that, he must like things that can kill people lol.

  • Back in my younger days, I did medieval re-enactment, with swords, axes and spears. I still have all my old weapons.

  • thats pretty sweet. hey, really good job with the tutorials, my fav is probably qui gons, really good job, you should do another, and maybe get u and a friend to have a duel with them lol

  • could you make a light saber like count dooku's and a tutorial?

  • I'm working on it.

  • ok cool

  • hey do u think u could make yoda's and palpintine"s(a.k.a. the emperor) and was the last one in the vid mace windu's?

  • None of my sabers are copies of any in the movies -- the designs are based on some and are similar in appearence, but I always prefer to make my own designs instead of copying someone else's.

  • you're very helpful and have great ideas thanks i'll try it for my movies

  • The last lightsaber emiter looks like Anakin's from epizode II. Are you going to make next tutorials?

  • nice ideas keep making more videos

  • Wow! I dodn't think tou'd actually make Plo Koon's lightsaber when you told me how to make it! 5 STARS!

  • I've been looking around a bit for a sink faucet knob that looks like the butt end of Plo Koon's saber, but haven't found one yet. That would probably work a lot better than trying to glue fins on.

My favorite Jedi, BTW, is Ayla Secura, who uses two sabers -- which is very very difficult to do well.

  • The best knob I've found only has 5 fins. His has 6 or 8. Oh and by the way, that lightsaber disign is very common amung jedi. Mace Windu had one before episode 2 and Luminara Unduli had one with golden fins. Plo Koons is only differfent from Mace Windu's by the blue in between the bumps on the emitter end of his lightsaber. If you look hard enoough in the picture in my movie you can see it.

  • I guess the five finned one will do for now. With a little black paint and it will look alot like Plo Koons. OH! and I wanted to tell you that I think the emitter of the Plo Koon's lightsaber you made would look cooler if you put a rubber gaskey with the fat end pointing up at the very top. Then below that, put about 6 more with the fat end pointing down below the gasket on the top. That's what I'm gonna do. Its just a suggestion.

  • I suspect the sabers all look a lot alike because the prop department for the films kept re-using them. ;)

  • Ya, lol. Bultar swan's is the same as Adi Gallia's. Why would they make disignes for all the jedi in the war of geonosis? I guess it would just waste time.

  • PLO KOON ROCKS!!!!! He is actually my original character's master!

P.S. Your videos are pretty cool but, one question. what do you use for buttons?

  • I use anything I can find that looks good. The button on the Qui-Gonn saber is part of a spray cap from a bottle of dive mask defog. The pink buttons on the Plo Koon saber are bits of silicone that I punched out of an old halloween mask with a paper puncher, surrounded by small black rubber o-rings.

The key to making a good saber is just to have a good eye for it. Look at what you have laying around, and imagine what it would look like as a power button, or a butt cap. Then do it. :)

  • Thanks! I think i might use a steel nut as a button!
