I am kinda sad! Ubuntu wont run on my desktop pc cause it wont detect my external HD! and it wont run on my notebook cause it dosent like my processor! Hrmmmmph.
How do you mean 3D? Also, it might not be Ubuntu to blame but your GFX card drivers. I've only bought Nvidia recently due to how tough it was/is setting up ATI cards in Linux as they never used to make good drivers. Then, I bought Nvidia, and people say ATI are now better. I can't win.
i mean its performance with anything 3d including compiz-fusion games anything that has to do with 3d at all i fixed similer problums in 8.04 with the envy version of the drivers but there not available in 8.10 using the same drivers i was using with 8.04 and i get about half of the performnce sme machine same ram same card but half the performance although you are right i think nvidia would be better i know im getting one as soon as i save up 509 dollers
beta its very stable, I'm just having some problems with the flash player, its not working in some sites, but besides that seems pretty good for a beta, a cant wait for the final release
so, how has this beta build been working for you so far? I am still at ver. 8.10, but not sure if I want to trust the beta for fear of graphic driver incompatibilities.
I am sure hoping Ubuntu finally addresses the crappy system sounds/annoying system beeps. They seem to have the visuals refined somewhat.
I've not yet installed the full Beta. This video is based on the Alpha release. I've downloaded the nightly build and I intend to install it onto my EeePC at some point but I've just not gotten around to it yet.
The full version is released on the 23rd of April so you might as well wait then. Also, the GFX driver should be built against your kernel version so its likely to work just fine.
the power of ubuntu is the simple and easy interface! Why orange colour?Because is truly interesting, not loaded eyes and is one of the most peaceful colors...The Ubuntu's idea is to integrate the peace in this OS :)
Its going to be released sometime in April of 2009. Honestly I see no difference interface wise, but probably alot more bug fixes and more stabler than 8.10.
Also violin music in the background is quite amazing.
I feel for ya. Ubuntu has to appeal to a LOT of different opinions, and they must keep a simple and elegant look. They want to change a lot of things, but that would break the compatibility of old software. They are gradually thinking ahead and making changes. Breeder was right, it is meant to be customized..but i wish it were easier to have a beautiful customization.
They should make the themes easier to customize. I wish all themes engines are pre install so I don't have to worry about installing engines manually.
Dude, this is an Alpha release of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. The Alpha of Intrepid looked like Hardy. Just wait. Eventually it will gets its own Jaunty-fied graphics.
that it Jaunty Jackalope (9.04), a new theme or wallpaper does not normally come before Alpha 6 or the Beta, however thare are a lot of "under the hood changes" that will be done!
Yeah it hangs together pretty well. I've been running Fedora 10 for well over a month now and its exciting to run the system that is being developed and pushed towards a final release, you see the fixes and improvements happen before your eyes.

How many RAM in your virtual pc? And why delete the swap partition?
killall ubiquity?
pitwalker 2 years ago
He deleted the swap because he only gave the VM a 1 GB HDD. It was still too small, hence closing - and killing - ubiquity.

It's only the alpha so far, so don't expect that much yet ;)
master74200 2 years ago
Yeah, the Alpha versions usually look like the previous release. You won't see a whole lot of a difference until the late pre-releases.
Alpha 6 is out now. That's the last Alpha before it goes beta in 2 weeks.
The Beta is a release candidate. In other words, it should be release quality but it's only for debuggers and powerusers to use full time.
But they have made some very impressive changes. I love the new login screen.

The interface will have some minor tweaks - with a new theme most likely.
And the login window is now changed.
Have a look at Alpha 6.

In fact the final 9.04 wont be that different from 8.10, just faster.
