I miss this band like a close friend I never get to see anymore. I going to build a time machine and travel back to 2000 so I can see them live one last time. Anyone else want to come?
Wow I just noticed your comments. Of course Grandaddy would have been nothing without Jason Lytle. Of course he made most of the work. But the point is no one else of the band was involved in "Just Like the Fambly Cat", I mean they didn't even play the songs of the album!
Btw. I've listened to Lytle's album, and I liked it. But it won't make me forget Under the Western Freeway, The Sophtware Slump or The Broken Down Comforter Collection
Wow, I've been listening to Grandaddy for years..and this is the first time I've heard this song..its just so beautiful. This video suits it well, somehow.
Grandaddy were always a very underrated band, i have to admit when i first heard them i wasnt too moved but gradually their music grew on me and I found myself collecting every record they done, they had a habit of producing lost gems such as this..
I still prefer "he's simple, he's dumb, he's the pilot" to this one, but "fare thee not well mutineer" is quite awesome too, probably their 2nd best in my opinion.
It's really sad this band collapsed, and i'm afraid Jason Lytle won't be up to my expectations... I've listened his myspace... I found it poor compared to the great job accomplished by Grandaddy. At least as poor as was their last album (just like the fambly cat) with the awful "rearviewing mirror".
I think the last album was a big mistake. To me it sounds overproduced, way too "polished". I heard Jason Lytle made it almost alone and didn't let the other members take part in the process. A sad end actually. I don't expect much of his solo album...
I disagree. Maybe Grandaddy's last album doesn't have what "he's simple he's dumb, he's the pilot" has, but I think rear view mirror is great in it's own way. And what about most other songs: summer it's gone, where i'm anymore, or (the acoustic version) jeez louise, guide down denied, campershell dreams and this is how it almost starts. ALL GREAT SONGS!!! I don't know about his new album, but I guess we have to listen to it for a while before we can give our opinion.
Jason Lytle WAS grandaddy. He wrote/played it all. Also... Rear View Mirror was an awesome song in my opinion. But, at least we agree on one thing... this song is totally cool.
@flyingpurpledragon I've changed my mind since then. I bought "Just like the Fambly cat", but also the solo albums "Excerpt from the Diary of Todd Zilla" which is great, "yours truly, the commuter" which is awesome, and finally the Ad Rad "I heart California" which is different, but still excellent.
@sterbus79 You know Radiohead right? Just when you say "you will never stop lovin' this band more than any other". Radiohead is my number 1 and Grandaddy is number 2 for me.
What album is this song on? I have Sophtware Slump, Sumday, and am about to get Concrete Dunes. I haven't found them on any of the track listings! :(

@muechenliebtmich Just to add, Sophtware Slump was produced and recorded almost solely by Jason.

Great song and video. Reminds me a bit of Bowie's Major Tom/Space oddity. This is brilliant in its own right. I heart this.

This Band may be gone...But always stays atop of the pile of indie groups that remained in a league of their own!!!!!
