@MeInTX I think it was that...and not everybody (untill like 1994 because of Federal Law) had the closed captioning decoder on their television sets. Also don't forget, then as in now...trying to close caption a program will run up some pretty high bills. As for Betty White, I really don't think she had any idea how big she'd become :)
"Charlie's Angels"? Was this a rerun? I thought the show's run ended in 1981, at which time "Charlie" (the late John Forsythe) shifted over to "Dynasty" as Blake Carrington...
I've been looking for a Charlies Angels commercial bumper I saw used in a syndicated Season 5 ep. The graphics were the same, but David Doyle did the voiceover and it used a snippet from the opening of the Angels in Vegas theme. Does anyone else remember this?
hehe, 4:18 , I wonder if anyone ever got 'cured', as they would probably call it... I'm a straight guy, no sweat, but I just wonder if anyone ever has changed due to a tv program ?
What's being talked about isn't a TV program that will magically turn people straight, but a TV program focusing on organizations that will magically turn people straight. Big difference.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who claim to have been "cured" from things like this, but I'd suspect nearly all of them are in denial.
@80sCommercialVault Or you have people that thought they might be gay. Plenty of people aren't quite sure what they are. I bet a good number of the people who really aren't gay anymore, never were. They just thought "gee maybe I am gay" and tried it out for a while.
@80sCommercialVault I could understand why programs like that could be taken seriously in 1984. The fact that some misguided (at best) people still take them seriously and believe in them in 2011 is very, very sad--and very, very dangerous to those forced to participate in one.
The League of Women Voters used to sponsor the televised presidential debates, back before the candidates' campaigns took over and made them worthless.
lol Astro van , dad had one of those back in the day and it was a massive POS but i loved it- so much room for me to act like a fool while he was driving..lol.the 80's good times.
There were a lot of these type of PSA's back in the day...early 80's. Especially with the independent stations such as KTVU, they aired tons of these where you'd see someone in a circle translating for the deaf in sign language. I haven't seen these types of PSA's in years however.
Betty White has been on 50s TV, 60s TV, 70s TV, 80s TV, 90s TV, 00s TV, and 2010s TV. Now that's amazing.

@MattTheSaiyan Her first TV appearance was in 1949, so you can add the 40s to that list too.

I hope KMST has more money these days, so that their locally produced ads no longer look like they were shot in someone’s living room.
This was a year before Betty White had her big comeback with The Golden Girls
Until the revelation at the end, I couldn't figure out why the hell the guy was calling his mom in the middle of a date.
Closed captioning was pretty common by 1984. Was it still cheaper to hire the signer instead of captioning?
Worst Paul Harvey impersonator ever.

@texacobigred42 Yes...of course it was a rerun. These aired in the afternoon.

That Betty White commercial should be redone today, but about clueless parents and their kids instead of animals.

It's a Paul Harvey impression, hence the PSA guy's name.

This is one of the better volumes so far. The awesome graphics, offensive PSAs, and bad acting in cheap suits.
If you ever do a Best Of volume, you need to pull a few gems off of this one.
