  • No doubt the addition of the Potassium Permanganate has a straight forward chemistry based explanation for why the voltage increased. Yet the available power, 1.9v x .002A is not all that different than other Aluminum/Copper batteries with similar metals surface areas like yours. Higher voltage alone is not worth getting excited about. Even if you did show approx 4x power output over similar metals, it would simply mean that the electrodes will dissolve 4x faster. FWIW

  • use aluminum cans..

also keep the hydrogen from escaping..

  • what about using aluminum beer cans or soda cans.

  • Did the NaOH eventually degrade the aluminum. I'd imagine it would.

  • Is there any non-carbon material that can replace the graphite-paper?

  • Lose the annoying soundtrack!!

  • and now:

    lets have a drink!

  • What electrolyte? Vinegar? Citrus? Water?

  • @LoneOarman

NaOH und KMnO4 als Elektrolyte .

  • have you tried using two different forms of carbon as a battery, 1. Graphite, 2. Charcoal, add an electrolyte and see if a Galvanic reaction takes place.

  • Hi Bill,

as long as the Alufoil will last.

You just need to change the Alufoil from time to time.

The graphite paper is not consumed.

If you build this this way, that the layers of alufoil and graphite paper are closer, it will also have more current and can be used to drive a Joule Thief.

    Regards, Stefan.

  • Stefan:

This is very interesting. I wonder how long it will run?

    Bill
