@stevenabb Good question. The JPN alphabet has 5 vowels: a, i, u, e, o （あ、い、う、え、お）. Most basic characters are simply 2-letter words formed by a consonant and a vowel, i.e., ka, ki, ku, ke, ko; ra, ri, ru, re, ro. a = あ; 1 character. ka = か; 2 characters. Ergo, ookami = おおかみ; 4 characters. The video shows a KB optimized for JPN characters; it is much faster to type JPN on it than on an ENG alphabet KB. But IRL, most JPN is typed on an ENG KB. Software takes care of the transliteration.

She types on a 10-button stenographer keyboard, meaning that 5 buttons on the right are vowels, and 5 buttons on the left are consonants. I'm assuming that 3 of these consonant buttons cycle through 2 letters while 2 of these consonant buttons cycle through 3 letters. Meaning hit 'x' once for 'a', hit 'x' twice for 'b'.
