@TheWuyo I'm not sure since I didn't read the manga, but I was told in the show, squirtle never evolved because he was an icon and they kept a lot of the smaller pokemon for the "chibi" or cute, factor. It was to keep kids watching. I'm not sure if the same thing happens in the manga though.

Anything past the first season of pokemon is shit in the anime. Maybe season 1 was too and i'm just nostalgic. Once pokemon took off it became all about the money. Can't blame them though.

@50JacketsProductions ash released it in season 2 because the spearow that ash tried to catch in season 1 evolved through time and then started attacking pidgeys and pidgeottos so ashs pidgeotto got all defensive and tried to take on fearow but failed so then he evolved and then took down fearow so then ash releaed it to protect the pidgeys and pidgeottos from fearow. case closed =)
