Thanks for the explanation, also I dont know if you checked it, but the Curve direction affects how the extrusion works, it has to be aligned in the direction you need or it will make strange things with the geometry.
I right-dragged and selected face. Then after doing my work I right-dragged and selected select. Now when ever I select the polygon it automatically goes back to face mode. Someone please help.
I'm currently going to the Art Institute of Vancouver, and this really is cool. Thanks for this dude. I just finished my first quarter and I have 2 weeks off. This is simple but effective. Thanks again.
@Janusha: if you using v2011[] to create a curve: go to the curves menu use for example the create EP curve tool. Klick on your grid to set the points. It will create the curve on the grid. now hold right click on the curve, and go to control Vertex.
now there shall appear those purple points. Applying the move tool to any of those points will manipulate your curve. Edit it the way you want...
Thing is... it didnt generate any handle points. No vertexes that could be selected. I restarted Maya and made a curve outside of my project. Then it worked fine. But when I reload my project and try to make a file, Its back to not working... annoying and I cant find a reason for it. However I did manage to make what I wanted to make and then import it.
Dude, this is sweet! ^_^ Thanks! I was wondering a few minutes ago if something like this was possible and i just happened to stumble upon this video. Totally sweet. :D Love it!
There was awesomeness all over this. Thanks. I might use this myself. In college for CA as well and trying to learn what I can when I can. Thanks again.
I have a problem in extruding. I took a 3d animation course for 1week and its really interesting so i downloaded a free version of maya at home. I had problems because it doesnt have the points in the middle of each faces for easy extruding. So i asked my teacher and i fixed it in going to WINDOWS > SETTINGS/PREFERENCES > Preferences > and in Selection Settings i changed from WHOLE FACE to CENTER. Now my problem is when i highlight one side, the surface of it should turn to orange ish.But its not
Hey Stephen is it possible to delete the curve after I have extruded my shape ? Thank you for the great tutorials ;-)

How the hell do I manipulate a god damn EP curve ? In my Maya there is nothing to grab. nothing to control the damn thing with.

Sweet tutorial. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities for someone (like me) that hates reading the manuals. 6 stars out of 5!!! Thanks.
