hi i want to build a small but safe tesla coil for my school science fair. i have read online it releases ozone and can damage electronics like tv's and computers so i am planning to demonstrate outside . i need i complete parts list and some help with construction but i don't want it to be to expensive .i also need to know how to make a salt water capacitor. if you could help me out that would be great. thanks

okay I have like a 2-2.5 foot high secondary on a half inch PVC tube with a lamp cord vertical primary 5 beer bottle capacitors in parallel two bolts for a spark gap and a 3000 volt nst but i also once used my flyback driver.whenever I run it I get like a 5 cm spark to ground. Please help. you look like you are getting at least 100000 volts out of yours.

How do you wire up capacitors in series

I have about 800 turns of 30 gauge wire wrapped around a paper towel roll. What gauge and how many turns should the primary be. Please help

Hey you did a good job on your coil how did you get it to work with both pos and neg on primary cause when i put both mine on primary it doesnt work at all. what the problem?

i have the same transformer as you

six Heineken beer bottle capacitors

seconday coil is about 4" tall and 3/4" in diameter

primary coil is 4 turns of 1/4" copper tubing

can you help me. why isnt it working?

well first off i have to say, that is one tiny coil!! it can still work but i think your problem here is in the primary. you don't have enough turns to meet the inductance requirement to make a resonant circuit. one way to determine pretty much exactly how many turns you need is through the program Tesla Cad. its a great program where you input the specs of your coil and it tells you how to tune it etc.

now, mine happened to be tuned inbetween the 6th and 7th turn on my primary (tesla cad told me that, and it works well!) but you don't always have to have the copper tubing for your primary. personally i have never tried it, but with a small gauge solid wire (18-24 gauge) i have been able to get 5 inch streamers. i've even had success with some stranded wire but it's not as good. anyways try tesla cad and add more turns. tell me how it goes! good luck!
