  • The only Question is, what happend to the gray cat before 2:28 that made him/her so pissed off.

  • @zugif

Hi! Heh, it's the other way round. The grey cat is the brother of the black cat, who is a girl. He wanted to play and she didn't, hence the antics. Hope this makes more sense now!

  • Btw, I bought many years ago a 70mm polarizer filter and tried to use it with my Canon Ixus cam, and it's fantastic, the colors of the beach near my house look gorgeous with it, maybe i'll post a sample.

  • @tonihott2

I'm inland, but I love the coast, so a beach clip with (or without, preferably both!) your filter/polarizer would be grand to see.

  • @ coastaltype. How did you set the Shutter speed & Aperture?

  • @thoughtgrenades

Hi! I used the full manual mode this camera has. It makes it dead easy just to select what shutter speed and aperture, ISO, custom colours, all sorts. You don't have to wade through loads of menus to get to what you want, only one deep for most options. Shutter and aperture just need a press up on the dial, then you can change them. Which I like. Check out the full text I put up with the clips to find out what settings I've used and details about the file produced.

  • @coastaltype I just realised we have different cams. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't set certain things. I've got an IXUS 220 HS aka ELPH 300 HS!

  • @thoughtgrenades

Heh! Confusing for you! However, Eugenia's site explains how to use an ND filter to trick the camera into reducing the shutter speed. Note that this is only necessary outside, mainly in bright conditions. Inside, the camera sets a sensible shutter speed for video, which you can check, as explained in that article. You have the same camera as Toni, work together!

Also, check out the 'Cheesycam' website for good DIY tips for making stabilisers, supports, etc.

  • Hi. Thanks for these videos. I'm the owner of a Canon Ixus 300hs and I'm very happy about it, but I'm thinking about getting this camera just to have the 1080p and that ultrazoom. I lowered my contrast because I think I can get a little more dynamic range doing that, what do you think about it? Also do you think it's better to set the sharpness to the minimum too and anything above is just postprocessing? Thanks a lot

  • @tonihott2

Hi! Glad to know these videos are useful to you. I set the contrast, saturation and sharpness to minimum on the advice of Eugenia, who writes about making films with these Canon compacts. Search for Eugenia Queru and you'll find her site. Look for the article: 'how to shoot video with canon hd digicams'.

Quote: 'Shooting flat helps with color grading in post processing, and achieves more dynamic range and detail.' Lots of useful info on her site. Hope this helps.

  • @coastaltype great tip & advise.

  • @thoughtgrenades

Cheers, it's exciting what can be done with these cameras. I couldn't afford a DSLR, so this is the next best thing for me.

  • @coastaltype Many thanks again. I'm reading it and it's really interesing. I want to try one of these ND filters on my cam now. I fear, though, that they can't be useful with the sx large zoom. Anyhow I'd love more tests and what you can archive with this little marvel.

Hey, no problem. It's all about sharing information. There is loads more on her site, click on the 'filmmaking' link on the right to quickly get to the most useful.
