  • whatever, he's a talented musician. that's all

  • love him and this song. it's okay that he's a douche ♥

  • @csullivan1171 no it isnt ok

  • I never would have thought such an epic douchebag could do such a good Dylan cover. He's still an ass though.

  • 4:15 through 4:17 is amazing.

  • uh no i never have dude, i put myself around people who actually know and appreciate music and can respect a good cover

  • Good stuff by John!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • haha dude you like john mayer...

I dont think you understand how to use "incomparable"

yeah and selling thousands of albums with these "tributes" of respect without giving credit doesnt seem very commendable to me. have you ever had someone ask you, "have you heard free fallin? john mayer is such a great songwriter".....

  • @brightlights916 are you fucking kidding me dude? He just took a classic song and did his own version which honestly had better guitar than bob dylan ever did and it's fucking Bob Dylan dude his voice isn't exactly incomparable until you can make that song sound as good as John Mayer did how about you just do us all a favor and keep your fucking mouth shut

  • fuck john mayer he's so pretentious for thinking hes good enough to cover all these classics. he never gives credit either.

  • @BrightLights916 You're an idiot. Musicians don't do covers because they think they're better. They do it as a tribute to the original artists whom they respect and enjoy. Fuckin tard.

  • No matter how good the cover, no one but Dylan can put in that extra touch of dismissive nastiness that makes this song great.

  • @newaccountdebzbd yea this is one of those songs no matter who covers it it cant be matched regardless... Dylan is the lyrical god we all know and i dont mind his guitar and vocals myself :)

  • @LUCKas1212 Van Morrison did a really interesting celtic-ish version of this in his earlier years. It's here on YT. Yeah, lyrical god, true. Dylan somehow touches a lyric vein that no one can match. Like a force of nature. Or Johnny Keats's negative capability. He can't escape. For an amazing look at Dylan's early years, see "Positively 4th Street" by David Hadju.

  • @newaccountdebzbd i agree he cant be matched by ANYONE i wish there were actually other singer/songwriters out there as good but as we all know, theres not.. cheers!

  • @newaccountdebzbd and ill have to check out those others for sure :)

  • sometimes you need to remember just take it easy on yourself and do what u do no worries love

  • John Mayer is actually quite good, but when he does hes own cheesy songs, he sucks.. but when he does covers and play blues etc etc... hes beast!

  • @Metusalem59 totally agree, Mayer is a damn good blues player. he needs to stick to blues. the stuff from the radio is awful though.

  • Actually sat and listened to the whole damn thing, he did that very very well

  • Johns good! He can play or sing anything!!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • horrible

  • i wonder how many people there thought it was a new song he wrote or something lol

  • impressive guitar playing

  • dylan is a legend and john mayer does this song justice

  • Cool song by John!! Very nice!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • Yeh bob does this song best, but its hard to find a bad version of this...i was pleasently surprised

  • @laziogoalie6 Hahaha, non c'è da sorprendersi che sei un laziale di merda.

  • Too bad Mayer is such a Douche bag. He's very talented.

  • @etsneroj Where do you get this crap from..

  • @pntblnguitarists, What do you mean? I'm just saying it's disappointing to me that someone like Mayer, whose singing and guitar playing I Iike, is such a self-absorbed whore because, otherwise, I'd be probably be a fan who buys and enjoys his music.

  • @etsneroj But he's not is what I mean. The guy has played Madison Square Garden but even still plays Hotel Cafe which is a smaller bar gig which you don't buy tickets to ( its free as far as I was told ). Don't be so crude.

  • @pntblnguitarists, Lots of big stars do little gigs for kicks, which is great. But I think he is a douche because I remember his egomaniacle attempts at stand up comedy where he'd attack other celebrities, while dating women like Jessica Simpson and saying nasty things about people in tabloid type publications. He acted like a self-absorbed child (like much of the "me generation"). Can you picture his heros, like Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton, acting like such a media whore?

  • Mayer's got the guitar down, for certain, but cannot upstage the two-part harmony done by PP&M--that put this song on the 'map' in the first place. Given the number of excellent vocalists available today why not do a modern trio version [correctly]??

Also, eliminating the comma after "Twice" in the title changes its meaning.

  • I wonder how many people were asking around saying, "What album is this from?"

  • that's really great :) i love this song, but mayer did a great job with it

  • hahahaha. his guitar sounds like a midi player...

  • I guess there is nothing wrong with mayer. I mean, hes voice is good, the only thing thats wrong with him is his fans that I guess have no idea who bob dylan is!

  • @joppisloppis1993 or Jack Elliott

  • John Mayer is an amazing guitarist and singer...but should not whistle. Let Andrew Bird whistle.

  • Mayer jumps on the bandwagon, but the audience is deaf. They don't understand the lyrics and what they really mean. Mayer can't see that, and only wants to be 'cool'. Well, he isn't here. 'Cool' is dead. Cool is now 'American Idol'. But that's alright. Don't think twice. Accept mediocrity as the norm and be content. Fit in.

Text in your vote! Come on! 'Text' is now a verb. That's alright. Don't think twice.

  • @Lengo67 alright chill dude mayer covers a dylan song and you jump on him for it?

  • whose feet does this suck??

  • Is John Mayer too good for fingerpicking?

  • @OlyDrumBum ur mum is good at that

  • @OlyDrumBum Technically I'd say he's too bad for it, but I still think he's great

  • I think, Waylon Jennings does it Best.

  • HAHA i can NOT believe someone just typed out the words "who is bob dylan" HAHAHAAH

  • I think this performance does justice to Dylan

  • WTF are you guys talkin abt...Bob Dylan fuckin wrote this...When Bob sings it, every word becomes a reality coz he knows what he's singing about...No cover can do that coz cover singers are not actually singing abt rolling stone or times changing...they are just singin a Bob Dylan song that makes them look cool...

  • @omarsabih thats ridiculous, I'm sure there are some artists out there who really know what the lyrics are about. If you are right, that would be really sad :( But I still think there are some true artists out there.

  • @omarsabih Yeah, only reason anyone covers a Dylan song! Definitely not cause Dylan's songs are some of the best ever written, definitely not cause there fun to sing and play, nope just to make them look cool! You've got it all down.

  • @omarsabih Well, don't tell Hendrix, or Clapton, or The Grateful Dead, or The Band, or Dylan himself, or any musician anywhere who has gleefully performed and interpreted the music of another songwriter. Saying that "no cover" can ever do an original justice is just criminally ignorant. The exceptions to this do not prove the rule, they destroy the rule.

  • @danjaja are you joking?

  • @danjaja you don't even deserve to listen to a cover of this amazing song by DYLAN if you can't even spell his last name the right way. Dylan's voice and artistic vision is what makes him one of the best artists EVER. go die in a ditch, you dumbass

  • @artaud23 Blame Bob himself the Jew don't like giving anything away :)

  • Happy Birthday Bob. And many happy more.

  • Full. Of. Win.

  • @laziogoalie6

It's written by Bob Dylan. You can find the original one in Dylan's "The freewheelin' Bob Dylan".

  • too fast

  • Comment removed

  • OMG..., finally found the ORIGINAL Bob Dylan version of this song (serch after this):

"Bob Dylan- Dont Think Twice It's All Right (original) "

The song takes 3:40, and is not the first on the list......

  • @anderskousgaard i think its after being removed?

  • @laziogoalie6 John Mayer didn't write this song; it's a cover. Bob Dylan is the mastermind behind this. Please learn your basic artists.

  • @laziogoalie6 I don't know what's worse, that you don't know who Bob Dylan is or that you don't understand how a contraction works.

  • @razbuten OUCH to both ....

  • @razbuten all the people who r over 35 must know him...

  • @laziogoalie6 I don't think this song has been on any of his albums. Also he didn't write it. Bob Dylan wrote it.

  • regardless of how the cover is, john mayer kept great music alive and that good enough

  • Finally..... Someone covers Dylan and don't fuck it up....

  • @thebeatledude Mike Ness does a better cover.

  • I promise that not even half of the fans in the crowd know what song this is.

  • Try all you want John but Dillon you will never be. You have more musical talent in your pinky than most of us. So you still have that at least.

  • @spavlic ridiculous comment. What would we do with another Dylan? He is still alive you know!!

  • im almost positive this song was a major influence on a) Edge of Desire and B) neon

  • @seattle2062 how so?

  • @blink182281knilb i mean no offense at all but i dont know if youve heard the actual dylan version of this song. I guess the way he puts the strings together in edge of desire is alot like dylans dont think twice its alright...imo... when i heard edge of desire the first thing i though of was dont think twice...

  • @seattle2062 oh ok cool. iw as just wondering

  • I generally like John Mayer when he plays his own songs - this I just couldn't get into. I thought the guitar playing was kinda lazy, and the whistling sounded like some random guy in the shower. I guess it could've just been him having a bad day or something. The singing was just ok - in tune but lacking the emotion the lyrics deserve. Overall this just seemed like a lazy cover - there are others on youtube that are much better.

  • Bob Dylan ..thanks to John ,who just proves it, was ..and maybe always will be the greatest musical poet that ever was!!!....live on Bobby!

  • I just wish that when I searched for a Bob Dylan song I could actually get Bob Dylan performing it...

  • @artaud23 ,

    that would be nice...

  • @artaud23 I know what you mean.

  • @artaud23 screw sony for taking his songs off!

  • @artaud23

    Me too!! It's total madness!!

  • @artaud23 agreed.... I guess it just speaks to how amazing his work really is!

  • @artaud23 At least this aint bad...

  • @artaud23 good luck with that

  • @artaud23 agreed!!!!

  • @artaud23 Then click on a video that says Bob Dylan and not John Mayer you dumb fuck. Hah

  • @artaud23 hey type in "bob dylan don't think twice it's all right"... is this the first time on the internet?

  • @artaud23 complain complain complain? wth would you click on this if it said "John Mayer - Don't Think Twice It's All Right" just listen and enjoy johns amazing cover :)

  • @artaud23 I always do haha i had to search for john mayer in order to find this one!

  • @artaud23 just type in bob dylan before the song

  • @artaud23

It has been covered by so many people. Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, The Brothers Four, Chet Atkins, Nick Drake, Elvis Presley just to name a few. When you do a search you will come up with a lot more cover versions than Dylan versions. John Mayer's version isn't the best, but it's not bad. I like the song so much I listen to a lot of versions and few disappoint me much.

  • he whistles flat.

  • @mitjazz lol, true. I noticed too. His whistling is his achilles heel! Talented man, though. Nice cover of this Dylan song. I quite like Elvis's version too, actually.

  • This version is ok but not great, the video is great. Walter Williams band does the best cover of this song

  • Folk music hasn't "come and gone" You're just not listening to it. Brett Dennen, Mason Jennings just to name two.

  • I am sorry but he slaughtered a beautiful song. At least Susan Tedeschi's cover of it is beautiful. Damn, so disappointed! I wonder if he will actually ever write a song of his own or keep being a over produced "singer"?

  • @urielkramer yeah..just by the chords he plays.. I think you're right.. :-) (can't tell for sure though, wasn't there ;-) )

  • Strait up Dylan!!!

  • @ghostinthemachine44. Apparently that's how bob played/plays it live

  • Not terrible but it's lacking without the finger picking. Some of his chord progression is wrong too.

  • @ghostinthemachine44

It´s how Dylan played it live in the 80´s.

  • only good cover of this song i've ever heard. well done.

  • @dylwil917

No. John Martyn and Nick Drake. Just have a look and see what you think....

  • @dylwil917 Check out Susan Tedeschi on her Austin City Limits show. Her version is fantastic and not just a copy of Bob Dylan's. I frankly think he is weak on his vocals, but I must be the only person in the universe who thinks so. Happy listening!

  • @dylwil917 Clapton does a pretty cool version at the Dylan anniversary show.

  • god this guy..sigh

  • All I knew about him was his connecting with some hot ladies. I did not know anything about him. Now it all falls into place. hey, John,.... keep on keeping on.

  • It sounds like he was improving the whistling part. Would have been much better if he would have used a harmonica but still a great cover.

  • Dylan would be proud.

  • @JustMauro9254 he's still alive...

  • No Dylan but quite the effort.

  • very nice cover.

  • anyone else feels that his whistling messes it upppp :O

  • I'm from Bob Dylan's generation and I enjoy the way John Mayer plays and sings it. It's true to the original version with just enough difference (strummed rather than fingerpicked) to make it his own.

Eric Clapton does it in his own rock/blues style on the Bob Dylan 30th anniversary show and brings the roof down. Incredible. So it's good the song works well in more than one way.

  • Check out my version of this song and let me know what you think!

  • i dont care how much a douche he is.

how can you not love this man?

  • Great Song. John Mayer is however the most OVERRATED singer! Him and Dave Matthews.

  • @2taggs2 Dave Matthews is anoying!

  • WTF!!!! is he picking the song with a pick!!!! it sounds soo good that would be such a hard song to pick cuz its a finger picking song

  • Comment removed

  • WTF!!!! is he picking the song with a pick!!!! it sounds soo good that would be such a hard song to pick

  • no Dylan but for Mayer this was good and the vocals surprisingly didn't suck.

  • Are you kidding fool that was very good

  • There are very few people who can cover Dylan and actually sound good. John Mayer is not one of them

  • The guitar sounds like that because he is strumming so close to the bridge not over the sound hole.

  • John Mayer is a jerk of a person but a great performer and guitarist

  • at 1:36 it's not "but I wish there was something I could do or say", it's "something YOU would do or say"...

Anyway, great version, probably the best I can find on youtube

  • brilliant version, but of course the original is the greatest song of all time

  • great cover

  • @urielkramer: also could've been why georgia :) haha

  • I just saw him in Oklahoma this past Friday (can't find footage of it).. and was absolutely thrilled he played this!

    Thanks so much for posting!

  • I really love and respect Bob Dylan but this version is something wonderful :).

    Thanks for uploading!

  • I was there :)

  • I almost like this better than the original.

    John Mayer is so awesome.

  • That man,

standing up there on that Australian stage,

    that man RIGHT there;

    he is amazing.

  • i luv JM!!:D

  • Not bad, but I like Claptons version from the Dylan 35th concert........

  • @jwizzie23 Nobody sings Dylan like Dylan. His album version is the best ever, and his live versions come after that. No one sings it nearly as great as he does every time.

  • god that guitar sounds amazing!!

  • @dollsizedpistol: I too was struck by the shimmering sound of the guitar. Is it possible that it's not just a guitar we're hearing--that someone on stage that we can't see in this video, is accompanying John Mayer on autoharp?

  • @kateandphoebe it's because he has a capo on the guitar. you can see him adjusting it at the very beginning of the clip. it raises the pitch of the guitar. good cover!

  • @DerekSMonzon a capo won't change the tone. the tone changes because he is strumming way down by the bridge

  • @urielkramer it was "war of my life" not "daughters"

  • good bye just too good words to say...I once sent this song in a package to my long distace gf....she didn't get it...but damn it felt goood

  • check out Mike Ness's version. much better

  • no soul, wooden if you ask me....... maybe you wont ask me.....ha

  • great cover. better than his sydney version, where (in my opinion) his vocals are just too much. less is more here.

  • he was amazing that night .. hes amazing all the time lol

  • LOL whistling instead of the harmonica...

  • His voice is fine here but his whistling ain't.

  • @mvalinsky Yeah, he definitely shouldn't gone with a harmonica. Still, not a bad rendition, and anything that keeps the spirit of Dylan alive is alright with me.

  • @mvalinsky YOU. STOP THIS TRAIN. LIVE IN LA. NOW!
