Are you kidding me. There were just two clerks trapped in an enclosed space behind the counter. And two guys with sledge hammers in front of it. The rest of them were cowering in the corner of the store until it was over. You don't see how easily a single blow to the head could have smashed their skulls in? The chair throwing and fire extinguisher clearly wouldn't have posed much of a threat if the robbers weren't so scared.

Well the problem with gun crime in the US isn't at all the number of guns. You pointed out Norway, and I'll point out Switzerland. There's a societal inclination towards violence; the US has many areas that are densely populated and highly impoverished and that just breeds crime. A gun doesn't fire itself, though. And if it wasn't guns, it'd be knives. Sad but true.

That last comment I made was satirical effect, and wasn't really serious or meant to insult. I'm actually Italian, not American :)

Some stores have security systems that automatically seal the doors once a break in is detected. It leaves the criminals trapped inside... along with the storekeepers. smashing the doors was an effort to preempt that possibility. looks like they had other things to worry about.
