The Kind of Controllers right here ! I don't get why people think you can me a real dj unless you use turntables and dont use computers, WTF, this is where the DJing world is moving to, get with the program or GTFO , thanks Ean, your making this more accepted, I own my start to you, If i hadn't seen a midi fighter video I probably would have never started DJ because Turntables were just too expensive, thanks
Awesome review! Where are you getting your drum sounds from? I get mine right now from Drumsoundz(dot)com and I get all my samples and loops there. Anyone know of any other good places?
Doctorrin, I don't see you spending time with the people at Vestax creating your own special edition line of MIDI controllers... so honestly, shut the fuck up. Guaranteed, no one gives a rats ass about your opinion
um- yes it does. You cant do 16th note triplets with any other buttons. have you actually tried arcade buttons as a midi controller?- No. because there are no controllers out there with them. I used an oxygen 8 for 4 years in the same way and it cant do the same thing. Before you hate, educate.
Yes, I can do 16th note triplets with my axiom drum pads. I can PLAY it out that way or I can PROGRAM via midi for it to repeat as such.
But you have arcade buttons and that makes it "controllerism?".....no, you just customized your hardware buttons. Big whoop, I know people who have done more creative things than a couple arcade buttons.
You are still assigning your shit to midi, typical shit.
Look man, I dont have the time to get into a comment war because I am too busy helping other people get better at djing. Since you are the expert- why dont you start uploading some videos and helping others out instead of hating on the legitimate progress of others? seriously- how is this a sad attempt to be famous? its a video showing how other people can improve their hardware. its also nearly 2 years old- a lot has happened since then.
I don't gotta do shit but comment, YOU are the one who made the vid. I'm commenting on it. I don't gotta make a video to have a valid point. You keep teaching people to dj, good for u. Controllerism is just making your hardware a lil' customized, that's IT! Deejays been using ableton for a while to do the shit you callin' controllerism.
Sorry to hear you need an arcade button for some 16th note triplets.
hey I just got an VCI 100 and... I cant figure out how im supposed to cue with my headphones... Do I NEED to get a external sound card to plug it into? Any advide will help! thanks!
right click on the top right below the "2 decks mixing" thing, right click and make sure the "cue edit" and "cue list" menus are checked, which are not by default....one you get those menu's, you will be able to assign multiple cue's....hit "Set" to assign the start of the point, and "lock" to save it to the "cue list"
Just stumbled across DJTechTools and your vids here. I FEEL INSPIRED... I'm a vinyl DJ of ten+ years and have been watching developments and getting ready to make the jump... Seems to me if the VCI is good enough for you (with or without arcade buttons!) then it's going to be good enough for me.
All I gotta do now is see if I can convince you to put one of those limited edition VC100's aside for me - Please? I only found out about them today... ;-)
arcade buttons? a brilliant idea! lol, thats like one of those things that you look at and you say "why didnt i think of that" ... adds a nice 80's-ish look too it as well. great job!
man you got to try Xponent with torq rewired to ableton live. and you wont have to modify your controllers no more. the reason i rewire torq to ableton is for better sound quality of the ableton's engine and better EQs.
this mod was for the physical feel of the controls. it does not have anything to do with the software but yes- I agree re-wiring to ableton is cool but you can also re-wire with traktor through sound flower
because he is not using sliders.. he just uses the buttons. btw he could use a trigger finger. its cheap and he would have the same performance (even better!)
trust me- until you have tried arcade buttons you cant tell me that the trigger finger is better. its a totally different feel- I own 2 trigger fingers and just about every other midi controler out there :-) and the arcade buttons rule. I am not using the faders because they have been re-assigned to other effects in that layout.
why bring a keybord? when this s half the size, half the weight, and just looks more professional? not to mention have you seen dj booths lately? not much room for a keyboard, or just great when that drunk girl starts pushing keys...lol
Wow, I really wanna get a vcm 100, quick question, do you think i'd be able to run it with my sony vaio sub notebook? it has a gig of ram and a intel centrino 900 meg M processor (pcg tr1mp) I have another laptop but it would be really nice to be able to run due to the small size. thanks lee
hay nice work mate, qucik question , i have a lap top dual core amd 1.6mhz, with 1 gig of ram , do you think it will handle torque well and not freeze ????????
hey man! this is awesome! I really would like to do such stuff, do you just use Traktor (i don't recognize your software, i only ever used virtual dj with my numark total control)? And is controllerism working by setting 4 cue points and stuff? this would be easy to set up for me then, is it like this?
yes- everything has been customized. and the mapping is publicly available on dj tech tools(dot)com. Just look for "ean Golden's" personal vci-100 layout :-)
Traktor is great, I have been using it for years in the clubs. If you want turntable control and a simple interface, serato is very popular for obvious reasons. If you want to do more with your mixes and dont care about turntable control Traktor is a fantastic option.
thanks for answering my question. I def want one now. I gotta grab tracktor also. I have scratch live now but not completely thrilled. Whats ur take on tracktor?
thanks dj chevy- to scratch hamster, you would just need to invert the midi-assignment in Traktor. then the cross fader would be reversed. you might even be able to assign a button to do that reversal.
Yo.. I'm very interested in getting the 100 but I scratch hamster style. Do you think the crossfader could be modified? Also you kick ass with your unit. Keep pushin the limits... It makes us all better!
thanks man- yeah tear it apart! i will be posting the full details on how to do that in a few days. Yes, i have 4 cue points set on each track with all 8 arcade buttons directly playing each cue when the cross fader is in the right hand position. In the left position the buttons act as transport controls.
That is excellent! Makes me wana tear down my vci right now n get drillin! =).. How were the buttons assigned btw? looked like you cueing all from different places with different buttons! wicked!. Im (me learner)clearly gona have to get more creative!! =) look forward to more vids!..
The good news is that you can do a lot of cool things with most of software out there in the market. I have reviewed and tested all of them for Remix and each one offers unique cool features. The important thing is having control over the software that is expressive and tactile. Without this, its all just mouse clicks and thats not very musical at all.
well ill just step in and say it depends on your setup and how much you want to pay. I like how Ean Golden uses traktor but it can get expensive. since im going to have a timecode setup im going for mixvibes. great deals and works great with the vci 100
Thanks for the feedback. I'll buy it and wait for the tutorial (I don't see myself ripping the controller without any guide). I don't want to be a pain but would you recommend me the best software to play with the VCI (Traktor, Serato, Mixvibes etc). Thanks in advance!! ;)
you will be able however to buy or possibly win a limited edition face plate that has all the controllerism style functions listed and different colors. Then if you want the arcade buttons, you have to install them yourself and I am finishing up a detailed tutorial on how to do that. That will be posted in a few days.
so just to clarify- no, you will not have to buy a new VCI-100 or wait to buy a specific edition. This will be a software update available to any vci-100 that anyone can get for free.
How good is the VCI for scratching? I've seen a few videos but for me it's hard to tell (I'm a begginer). Is it worthy to wait for that especial edition?. I was planning to buy it now. Will you do a tutorial or something about how customize it? Thank you
good question: In this example the cross fader is being used as a preset switch so the buttons all have dual functions.
The entire VCI has been optimized for advanced play with very little being used as originally intended. Unfortunately this requires special programming for the unit. In the coming months Vestax will release a special "Ean Golden" firmware/face-plate combo in limited edition that will give people the chance to use the VCI in these kind of ways.
