What I find absolutely amazing about this is that when you look at each of these maniacs, you see that at some time they murdered or aided in the murder of another. Here we see that Anne Boleyns father got this guy killed for nothing. And in the end, she and her brother were butchered as well.
Now I'm curious, what did Thomas More do to deserve this cruelty?
@tikletik funny thing was he did nothing... he disagreed with the King on a moral and religious terms.. the king accepted but as you mentioned boleyn and the king schemed... before this Thomas and the Kings were friends...
Sir Thomas More is my favourite Saint. If I will ever have a son, I will call him Thomas, that's for sure. And by the way: Jeremy Northam's portrayal in the series was brilliant!
The conversation between Thomas More and Richard Rich almost certainly never took place, unlike as portrayed in the series, and his testimony was perjury.
One has to understand what is at stake here. As far as the Pope was concerned, any Catholic Monarch in Europe had a legitimate claim to the English throne. The Tudor claim to the throne however, was weak, and Henry knew this. He was also aware that should he die without a male heir, the throne would be up for grabs and England would be plunged into dynastic war. He felt the pope was blocking his efforts to produce an heir, so he made himself head of the English Church. Politics pure and simple.
What fucking barbarians. These mother fuckers called themselves followers of Jesus Christ? I'm not even a Christian and I understand the tenets of Christ's message to love your enemies and to show mercy.
terrible casting in this show

God Bless Saint Thomas More for defending the faith and keeping to his conscience. I'm proud to be an alumni of a Catholic school named after him.
