I bought a craftsman saw , and it was on sale, so I figured what the heck, it should work, well after about 6 months and using the included oil additive, it started to lag in performance, and it got to the point that I had to sent it into sears to have them diagnose the problem, it turns out the piston was scored and burned, due to inadequate lubrication, go figure. The oil additive they supply you doesn't do its job, so you wind up wasting the 70 to 135 $, i tell everyone don't buy sears saws.
Hi, I was just wondering what if the oil doesn't go through the chain bar? Like the chain isn't getting oil at all when it's on use. Is there any way to fix it?
@UnknownMiZz it could be, u have to see if oil comes out the hole on the saw when it's running, but be careful becasue the clutch can come apart and fly off
@donyboy73 Oh, Well we have and still not running the oil. So, we bought a oil kit for it and see if that was the problem. But anyways thanks for you help. :)
@donyboy73 HEy...I have the same problem. We ran it with the bar off- does not pump oil through it. I only saw one hole- the tube that runs from the inside of the bar to the oil resevoir. I ran a wire through it..What do you think? (it's a Poulan 2150).
sometimes the saw picks up dirt from the oil tank, regardles of the filter. Disassemble to see the oil pump spool, and check the hoses leading the oil. Common problem for husqvarna 346xp, and 353.
never had to do it on 268, lol. not sure for other saws.
thanks for the great informative videos. they have been a great help in repairing and restoreing some of our old saws and equipment.keep up the great workand have a great day
Donyboy73 I forgot to add that I totally agree with you about the older Poulans being tougher. Mine's a 1998 and we live in the country and cut plenty of wood per year. I had to adjust the carb when it was new to get the idle just right. Since then, flawless.
@14goldmedals One thing you might want to look out for: seems that for many years, and maybe still, Poulan saws had pvc fuel line, which gets brittle, breaks, and lets debris into carb to clog carb's internal filter.
Replacement with Tygon tubing is strongly recommended. BTDT, with 3 saws.

I have a 70s stihl avp 020 I undid all the bolts and the surrounding case won't come off. There must be a way to get to the cylinder?

@UnknownMiZz clean all the holes in the bar

@donyboy73 We have clean all the holes already and still no oil passing by. Is there a chance that the oil pump could be wrong?

Great video, thanks!
When you say you had a rope in the cylinder, you just shove some rope in the spark plug hole to jam the piston?

Hi, will a saw engine run like this with ease, because I almost seized a saw, but quickely put some fuel in and she started right up?
Jacob88rOblivion 1 year ago
When you say "ran low on oil" do you mean the pre-mix or the bar oil?
14goldmedals 1 year ago
@14goldmedals the pre-mix, sometimes people don't put enough oil in the gas or run it straight gas
donyboy73 1 year ago
@donyboy73 got you. I never go leaner than 50:1 and I've never seized or burned out a 2 stroke yet and I'm an older dude. Great vids BTW.

Does no one sell affordable pistons and cylinder kits for these saws?
bcoverss 1 year ago
@bcoverss not really, it's asham that a piston kit is so expensive and most of the time not worth repairing
donyboy73 1 year ago
@donyboy73 Would I be wasting my time putting a new piston and ring into a scored cylinder or would that give me a bit more life out of the saw?
bcoverss 1 year ago
@bcoverss usually if the cylinder is scored it still won't have enough compression with a new ring and piston
