As always man you have a great taste in weaponry. But I have to ask do you recommend an SR-25 or REPR for long gunning? I have shot both and want to know what you think.
This gun shoots the same bullets as the FN FAL right? Can this gun then also be fired full auto or well "rapid fire" as it is called?Or is the recoil too bad?
@ShoutingRetard34 Yes both guns fire 7.62x51mm. Since I assume this is a civilian version you're going to need special paperwork and pieces to make it selective fire. That being said, full-auto is a waste of ammo for civilian applications.
I contacted the Nightforce factory with a question about the 2.5-10 NXS. I was looking at the NXS for a 1k rifle scope. The problem with it is, after 600 yards the groups open up 1 moa due to parallax. This is what the rep said on the phone.
It is still a very good optic, but I would prefer the 3.5-15 NF because it has a side parallax for longer ranges. I think the NXS is an excellent optic for hunting and some tactical shooting. It's just not a long long range scope. HTH.
I just bought a rem 700 sps tactical AAC... factory threaded barrel, 1in10"twist, you probably know the one.
Since the gun only has a 20" barrel I was figuring it would work best within 500 yards. It will be suppressed eventually, and with slow, quiet subsonic ammo I can't see the reason to try to go any father.
Question: How do you think this scope would work for me. Is a MILDOT reticle even worth it in this application. I'm new to this and looking for EDUCATED opinions... Thanks.
@rednoseroxy You'll be able to reach 1k with that bbl and the right ammo without issue. I shoot my 20" 700 with 175s to 1k easily. I'd say if funds allow go for the mil-dot. It will make holds for wind/elevation easier and you can use the mils to range find if needed - better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Once you go suppressed and with subsonic ammo 200yds will be about your max range, with about 100 being realistic. My thumpers drop 5 mils @ 100 yds.
@Hurricane810kr Thanks for the reply. 1000yrds is what some have said, but from what I've read about the 1in10" twist, I assumed it was better suited for heavier grains and shorter distances, thus excelling at silent, short distance social work. That's why I was looking at the NF 2.5-10x32. Next option was the NF 3.5-15x50, but I assumed this was 2much scope for my application. This is what I'm trying to figure out. Most shooting will be done from 2-500yrds, but ability to go further wood b nice
@rednoseroxy And again, I'm pretty new to this... Ive been a handgun guy and this is my 1st rifle. I always jump pretty deep into things. I think I made a good choice. It's becoming winter project because this stuff is EXPENSIVE! I haven't put one round thru it yet. I don't mind spending the money, I just don't want to spend 13-17 hundred bucks on a scope and figure out down the road I chose poorly. I can't wait to figure this stuff out and put some down range!
@rednoseroxy 10x is enough for 1k, though the 15x will give you a little more detail. most of my scopes stop at 10x - even my .300 WM has a 10x. the 50mm obj will give you more light gathering, so if you're going to shoot in low light that will help. if 500 and in will be the norm more than 1k i'd go with the 2.5-10x. it will be a lighter and more compact package with that 20" bbl.
@entstephen No - it is the factory gas port diameter, what it is off the top of my head I do not know. You're right, I was about 6 years ahead of the EMC with this build!
I'm in the process of building one similar. I'm using an Armalite lower, AAC Blackout, 16" armalite barrel, Larue 9" freefloat, and IDK what scope yet but a 1-4x24.
What inch rail do you have on yours?
BTW does that Vltor stock provide good cheek weld?
@diderr01 That RAS is roughly 12" - I like the EMod stocks and think they provide more than adequate cheeck weld. Running a lot of EMods these days......

How is the recoil from the .308 on an AR platform?
Is it comparable to the standard 5.56 AR's?
thanks
