  • If you want to see U2 do a much more rock version of this song, they released a short concert movie of their 'Lovetown' tour the following year, 1989, recorded in Australia.. I haven't checked but it is bound to be on YouTube. Enter something like "U2 Watchtower Australia 1989" and it should come up. The Edge lets rip on a powerful guitar solo in that version.

  • Haters are gonna wait. Who cares, really? I've seen U2 many times and I've never seen any other band that good live on stage.

Daubreyblablaba is losing all his credibility by saying Edge can't play. Sure he's no Hendrix, but the landscapes he creates are more meaningful to me than playing 10.000 shredding notes per minute.

Millions of people who love their music are all wrong and you´re right. We´ve got it.

    Next....

  • Man I don't understand who says that Hendrix version is better..man it's like comparing tables to chairs..they're totally different, with different intent, different suggestions, nobody will make another Hendrix' All along the watchtower, or another Dylan's...every version has a direction. They're all beautifull in some aspects

  • looks like many of you guys don't understand the word "cover"

  • this is good but it seems forced, I like U2 but Jimi Hendrix played this far better in my opinion.

  • too many haters, where you there at that time?

Bob Dylan played and wrote on their rattle and hum album

They had/have respect from all the greats, what have you done? ... yeah I thought so.

    PEACE

  • I love watching boner attempt music that he could never understand

  • AWESOME!

  • Gute alte Vietnam kriegs Musik !

  • please Edge you should not cover a song you cant play!

  • Lol this versions is bad

  • Jimi hendrix did it a lot better

  • Huge Dylan fan, but I fucking love this cover. Love edge especially in it.

  • I now see you so differently. You will set a new world game in motion!

  • i love anything U2 does.

  • Stole love e.c. don't get me wrong. But this was weak..

  • @ everyone that knows this was one of both artists weakest performances. Thus was completly un-heartfelt. Very weak. And this is coming from a clapton idol.

  • Don't do this again, i'm sorry, just don't

  • Sry, this sucked.....

  • Che merda

  • Watch - you symbolize hope

  • how come they did so much covers of legends songs? anyway their versions sounds like crap anyone of them so its not like they did a good job or something

  • It's a little hard to like this version, just because I automatically compare it to Hendrix's version. I'm actually not complaining too much about the instrumental guys here, because they do a solid interpretation of it.

However, I severely dislike Bono doing this. It kind of ruins it.

  • Dave Mason also did a great version of this song

  • Stinking version, I agree.

  • of course they dont play the Hendrix version because Edge cant play Solos (as you hear;-)

  • @daubreyjaneweirdley indeed..there are many copies...and they have a plan!

  • No one like Bob Dylan... excuse me but that`s my opinion

  • Never liked them and never will, dont know why but I cant stand them

  • DId anyone else think they were about to start playing Taper Jean Girl when the drums came in?

  • I love the original Hendrix version and the Justin Herman Plaza version by U2. This seems a little rushed. daubreyjaneweirdsley: Your rant makes you look foolish and bitter only.

  • This is a pretty poor cover. I like U2 and everything but I feel that this cover fails to recognise everything which the song is about. DMB's version puts it to shame.

  • DMB Version much better....this is like.......shit

  • meaningless cover of the greatest song ever

  • Heisenberg?

  • I love it!.......U-2 can really hang with the best of Jimmy Hendrix!

  • Every song has its moment.... this cover was on the late 80´s , so, listen to the Rattle & Hum original U2´s version..."more than this....."

  • covers like this are very very good...but the original is always the best:D

  • sweet

  • the never ending discussion, whice version is the best....

there are no songs that are too sacred to cover.... so why bother comapre, debate and speculate,.... this is music, not some contest..... enjoy or not... that´s so simple...

  • Whatever the version is they lyrics are just great. Thanks Bob for creating the lyrics and thanks Jimi to turn this into a world wide anthem

  • Music's not a contest...right? Good, better, best? C'mon! BTW, I grew up on Bob's version and still, after all, like it best. But that's just me...

  • Step 1. Grab guitar.

Step 2. Play Jimi's last two solos in the right places along with U-2.

Step 3. Feel like a boss.

  • thumbs up if also you think that U2 rules!!

  • watch my cover x its quite good for our age x we r 15 so dnt be to harsh if u dnt like it

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley do you have your head up your ass? if not, stick it their

  • @hellyfornication...Not really my inarticulate little cretin!! But if you look, you might find your arsehole is where your mouth should be!! God!! Another Bono brown noser!! Spare me from juveniles who appear to have learning difficulties!!

Almost as laughable at Bono's ludicrous attempt to cover song that demands insight and gravitas and The Edge's witless attempt to play guitar (see The Edge compete with White/Page, real guitar players and die in the attempt)

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley you know, i'm actually glad with your opinion. go on with vomiting bullshit like this, if thats what you think. go on, let other people know youre infantile. i mean, come on, XTC?! the only good thing they ever did was that dukes of stratosphere album. and you know, i have to admit, this isnt a great version, infact it might be crap, but listen to the version off Rattle and Hum and you know why theyre just fuckin legends

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley If you don't like U2, why on earth did you "waste" your time and clicked on this video? It's no point in searching for and watching things you know you don't like to begin with, is it?

  • @mschiquitita10 Really!! Is it so difficult to understand?!! I was trawling through YouTube to find alternative versions of this lyrical masterpiece and found standout versions by Weller & XTC (never been a fan of ethier). Then i found this version, i had to listen out of curiosity, and predictably this is the most wretched take on this song i've ever heard. Now i know you're one of Bono's obsequious little sycophants, but don't appear so servile in public, it's embarrassing!!

  • @mschiquitita10 youtube invites to respond to videos and encourages us to call shit shit if its shit

  • @mschiquitita10 Well said.

  • @mschiquitita10 Many people will listen to the original, by Bob Dylan, and click on this related video (cover) out of curiosity. Are U2 fans seriously that stupid that they need to ask?

  • Comment removed

  • @mschiquitita10 to listen to their version obviously ,if u want to hear how it should be played listen to springsteen and youngs version

  • @mschiquitita10 FFFUUUUCCCKKK UUU2222222. and fuck u 2.

  • @midtownspecial87 ta maman va bien ducon?

  • @ .Absolutely. At last an intelligent music lover who 'dares' to dispute that not everything U2 have recorded or played is good. You know what? Anyone who disagrees, listen to 'other' bands and artists. I like U2. They are a band that have stood the test of time and a lot of the work is very good and groundbreaking. But this particular performance is, as daubreyjaneweirdsley says is trash!! Just admit it and move on.

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley true dat

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley and you could do a better job than the edge...? didn't think so mate.

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley I wouldn't be as critical as you are, but I agree that this version really misses the feeling that you can find Dylan's or Hendrix's versions. Agree with you with the guitar, sounds like shit ! However U2 has done and still does some good stuff, they're just not a classic rock band, that's all.

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley You are a fucking moron!!!!!

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley what??? you are oblivious to the sublime....

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley well you know what, you can say anything you want and think, but the edge can play the guitar, that's nothing subjective it's a fact.

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley "Pope Bono @ the Priesthood" was funny, but Dylan laid the groundwork, Hendrix just dug his grave. "& The Edge still can't play guitar." LMFAO!

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley lol man that was funny and interesting...i like U2 though!

  • @daubreyjaneweirdsley I fully agree

  • YO BONO, IMMA LET YOU FINNISH, BUT JIMI HAD ONE OF THE BEST COVERS OF ALL TIME ! OF ALL TAYUM !

  • Always an awesome song no matter who does it

  • WHAT A FUCKIN VOICE

  • @errorist1 fuck you their both awsome

  • @SecondHandStudioZ hh come on fuck me little pussy fag, i wanna see that... p.s. bono is a ass fag... what what? in his and yours butt

  • @errorist1 Ok, if your going to start trolling, learn to use proper english. I can hardly understand your comment.

  • @SecondHandStudioZ here's a proper russian for you "idi na huy, lox"

if he would at least knew how to play the guitar, i would not talk. but he is a joke with a microphone

  • @sole1806

fair enough, everybody has his own taste. I personally like them all, even if they're rather different from one another. For example, Hendrix's version makes me sit back and enjoy the musicgasm, whereas U2's makes me unable to resist singing along.

    And Dylan's is Dylan's. :P

  • WTF? Craig Ferguson???

  • Coool

  • Sorry guys but this song is belongs to Bob Dylan, Hendrix made a cover like U2. Now, in ny opinion both are better than the original.

  • Sorry guys but this song is belongs to Bob Dylan, Hendrix made a cover like U2. Now, in ny opinion both are better than the original.

  • the guy in the beggining could be bryan ferry or ..craig ferguson?(i know i m being random)

  • There is an Alien at 2:39...?!?

  • U2 covering Hendrix, my dream come true!

  • @achtungbaby28 no, they covered Dylan's

  • @hwanj sorry my bad dylans cover! still hendrix dylan and u2 doing same song pretty sweet!

  • @achtungbaby28 no they are covering hendrix covering bob dylan but before your like o your cool for knowing it was a bob dylan cover, my friend hendrix's version is 3243242354235235423423423 times better than anyone elses but eric clapton did a good cover too

  • @l1m0b0at yeah hendrix's version is possibly the best thing ive ever heard! bo dylan's original is still incrdible though just that no one can beat hendrix!

  • @l1m0b0at how on earth could they be doing a hendrix's cover if it is a dylan's song to begin with. the stupidity in some comments just astonishes me.

  • always U2! =)

  • Hendrix is better!

  • I remember watching this when it originally aired. I think I still have it stored somewhere on a Beta tape :)

  • that is all!!!!!

  • They can rock out

  • Great version Elin!!

  • Good rockin' cover here Elin by the boys of a great great song !

Hendrix really made it his own !

  • @2Shaymcn Right Elin...spill the beans, just how well do you know the guys in U2?

You always get hold of their good quality videos :D

Sorry for the highjack Shay,i still can't post my own comments.!!

  • Like the long hair look on Bono and the Edge! They are playing a song from one of my other favorite artists, Bob Dylan - thanks Elin!
