F1 MUST be a contest of engineering, but I think that a standardised gearbox, bottom-end/block and management HARDWARE could usefully save money - much of the performance difference comes from valvetrain/combustion chamber design and mgmt PROGRAMMING.

FIA could standardise say bottom end SPECIFICATION to the extent that it would be pointless to produce one's own.
