one of my favorite movies EVER! Bought it in high school on tape in 1998 when I was getting into blaxploitation. But this is more of a crazy hippie art comedy! LOVE it! Wish we had more movies from that time period that captured blacks and race relations with such comedy and understanding. One of the best time capsules of that period!
I'm in the UK and i'm thinking off buying Putney Swope on DVD but Amazon have two versions (Rhino and a more recent issue) can anyone recommend which one to buy? Cheers, loved the clip!
Never seen the Rhino one, but I have the one released in 2006 and it's great. The good: Nice cover art, fun menu, and a decent transfer. The Bad: It's slim on special features and the sound is pretty poor. However, it's my understanding that the sound was originally quite poor to begin with. So this is probably as good as it gets. Hope that helps. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. :)
As i'm in England i'm only familiar with Ms.Greenes music career.I'd love to see some footage of her from this film,i believe Ms.Greene played the role of Mrs.Swope.
If you have any other footage of Ms.Greenes TV/film career that would be great too.
She was only in one other flick that I know of (For Love of Ivy) and it was a blink and you miss it part. :( However, she had a lot of screentime in Putney Swope. I'll post some highlights.
From the same era in Hollywood that considered Billy Jack an action star.

There's something ironic in the fact that the main black character was dubbed by a white guy :)

Haha! Oh my god....outstanding! I've got to see this movie! That funky song playing in the background is awesome as well. Thanks for sharing.

@DiscoHank Add the fact that Iron Man's dad wrote it ( Robert Downey Sr. ) and you have a pop-tsunami. Awesome movie. WAAAY ahead of it's time.

Who is the lovely lady?
And have you any footage of Laura Greene please?
razelma 4 years ago
The lady was a friend of a friend of the director's. She was working as a waitress and had to get the day off to do this. :)
As for Ms. Greene, what did you have in mind?
