  • Is there another way to back up my Macintosh HD to an external drive? as my iMac will not boot and I cannot access my account to download this program..

  • @aylesburyboi If you are unable to boot into the Mac that you want to back up, you could try taking it into an Apple Store and have them do it (for a fee possibly) or manually open up your Mac, take the hard drive out then install it on another computer as a slave drive and back up the data by copying it to another hard drive.

  • How would one go about cloning an internal 320gb hard drive that was to be replaced by a new 1tb hard drive?

  • I apologize if this has been asked already. I have an iMac with a 1TB hard drive and a 1TB external drive that holds exclusively video. I manually back them BOTH up on a 2TB external drive. My ideal scenario is to use CCC to make a bootable backup of my Mac HD, but also be able to back up the 1TB video drive on that SAME 2TB backup drive. Will one interfere with the other? Or will I not be able to boot this drive if the video drive contents are on there in addition to the Mad HD backup?

  • @bassmancyx1 CCC should be able to do this as long as you assign it 2 different tasks (1 task to backup the iMac internal drive and 1 task that backs up the external drive). You will also have to split your 2TB backup drive into 2 separate partitions, using 1TB on each partition.

  • Does Carbon Copy Cloner delete all data on the backup drive and then copy the backup over, or does it keep the original files?

  • @CHENCXR It does both. It gives you an option of keeping files on the Backup drive that do not exist on the Source drive each time you backup your data.

  • Yeah but does it make is like a disk image or does it just copy the files and folers to the external hard drive. I would rather it just make a disc image of it.

  • @TekTut0rials CCC copies the data, but it also lets you make the drive bootable which is similar to having a disk image of your Source disk ready.

  • you ARE john krasinski

  • But the person couldn't give me the installation disk because of the owner of the disk

  • I was going to install windows 7 on my mac pro using bootcamp but it said

I need to back up my disk. Now if i use carbon copy for my applications will it save or back the

applications to the point that they will work whether they be factory or aftermarket? Because in the past when there was a backup or a restore

it normally only works with stuff that came factory but everything else wouldn't work. And how do you make a hard drive bootable? If that makes since because my apps where just installed

  • This might be a stupid question but will it still work if I have other stuff on the external hard drive e.g Music, Photos... will it just create another folder in it or overwrite it.

  • @AllStar447 It shouldn't overwrite any data as long as you're not choosing to mirror your source disk

  • Also, does the include cloning to a blank replacement hardrive too. I plan to buy a bigger HDD to put in my MacBook, so how would I apply this image with no data on the drive?

    Thanks in advance.

  • @PrAnG2000 First you would want to clone your current hard drive to an external drive and make it bootable. Then install your new internal hard drive (equal or more in GB size). Then boot to the external drive and once you're logged in, run CCC and clone the external drive to the new internal. Once it's done, shut down the computer, unplug the external drive, and boot to the new internal drive which has just been imaged. Whew! Good luck!

  • @MyTechMethods

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

Another question though. I just finished backing up, but all I saw was a folder of my folders. I thought it would have created an image file. Plus, I told me that my backup whould not be bootable unless I backed up on the main drive. Now, not sure if I was understanding properly, but how can you image and back up onto the same drive??

When you say back up to my external drive, does this need to be an empty drive? Cos I have other stuff on there.

  • @PrAnG2000 If you want to just do a single full disc image of your current hard drive and restore it to a new hard drive you can just use Mac's built-in Disk Utility. You don't have to use CCC for that. And yes make sure that any drive you are cloning/restoring to is equal/greater in GB size to the drive you are cloning from.

  • @MyTechMethods

    Thanks again.

I know about external hard disc space, but I want to be able to do something similar to what I do on my PC. I have a Norton Ghost image in a folder on my PC's D drive. Whenever I need to reinstall, I run a small Norton dos program to call up that image and install it back on my C drive. I do this without having to be in the Operating System.

I know Macs don't have dos, but I need something similar to achieve this.

  • @PrAnG2000 Hmm unfortunately the only way I know of applying an image to a Mac is to have an external bootable drive. I guess there's a moral to this story: DOS FTW. But there may be a way to do what you want to do, I just haven't discovered it yet. Let me know if you find anything out. Good luck and thanks for watching my videos.

  • @MyTechMethods

OK! Thanks for the help, man. Will post back if I solve my issue.

  • How do I restore?

  • Can I partition an external HD, install SnowLeopard and FCPX on partition one, then install Lion and FCPX on partition 2, then run the applications from the external HD?

    Excellent tutorial.

  • will this back up boot camp?

also what about software which i have paid for just single licenses? will they work or will i have to re enter the keys when i plug i boot it up on another computer?

  • @modelearth Yes if you choose the option to make the volume bootable and do a mirror backup (backup everything in its entire state). It's like cloning the hard drive, like the name implies. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

  • can you use a flash drive ?

  • @arshbrr1997 Yes as long as it's storage capacity is equal to or greater than your hard drive that you're backing up

  • I heard many time about the CCCloner very positively.

It is a super idea to show us on Youtube on "how to...", but the section of the CCCloner is so small on my laptop, I hardly see where you are clicking.

The best Idea is to get a close up of that section!

And please don't speak to fast.

    Thanks.

  • can my back up external hard drive be the one I am storing all my other files (movies, music, etc.) Will doing this erase all my other files?

  • @drbillblah Yes it will erase all other files with whatever you're backing up

  • @MyTechMethods

mmm ok so if I have an external hard drive with all my downloaded stuff on, if I backup my hd with ccc on this same drive it will delete everything...?

Is there no way that it can share the same hd as these other files...?

    Thats a bit sucky

  • @MyTechMethods yes it will, the best thing to do is just partition ur HDD using disk utility (usually half) then just format both (IT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING) then just use 1 partition for this and another for your files (Movies, Music, Or just some backups)

  • hello, i was just wondering does this CCC program warn you when older backups are deleted? thanx..

  • @nvm1ws Yes it will notify you before you back up if you are about to delete files that do not exist on the source disk anymore

  • im about to CCC my imac 320GB Hard Drive, because it is freezing and about to die. Do you think I could have trouble using CCC because my Hard Drive now is very temperamental, freezing, etc. ?

Apple store charge toooo much to do this, so I want to try myself.

    Thanks

  • @79expand It can't hurt to try. Heck, I would recommend backing up using CCC because a faulty hard drive can be a persons worst nightmare. Good luck!

  • Thank you so much for the video. Helped me a lot since I use the Tiger mac.

  • hey dude, i was wondering how you like boot up the restore of your hard drive when youve already backed it up. thanks

  • @Joshyboy110 Plug in your backup hard drive (which is most likely an external USB drive) and power up your Mac while holding down the Option key. This will give you an on-screen option of which hard drive to boot from.

  • Hi,

Can this utility back up the Parallels 5 and the Virtual Machines/Windows 7 along with MacOS?.

    Please detail.......

  • @no2nonsense Yes it will back up an entier physical hard disk. For example I have VirtualBox installed with a Windows 7 image and it gets backed up when I run CCC.

  • how do you restore a new macbook with your carbon copy clone

  • @Jshulman1995 Restoring a carbon copy clone to a new computer might be difficult because the restore is usually host-specific and can only be restored to the machine that it came from

  • @MyTechMethods i actually ended up figuring it out using disk utilitys

  • @Jshulman1995 Were you able to restore your clone to your new macbook?

If so did everything work properly on your new mac?

    What OS (leopard) was it?

  • @CelestialTennyo yea i t worked out, i used and app called super duper, i actually dont even have it anymore, i sold it for a imac:)))

  • @Jshulman1995 guessing you used both CCC and now SuperDuper, which do you recommend that would clone my entire hard drive? (OS, settings, pictures, music, docs. etc)

I'm trying to decide which cloner to use by researching and reading ppl's opinions. = ]

  • @CelestialTennyo use ccc to make a clone, use super duper to restore you mac from the clone

  • @Jshulman1995 alright ^^ Thanks for your opinion and help.

  • Great Tutorial, Great Software -> 5 Stars + Favorite.

    Thanks

  • Any way to also clone the bootcamp partition ( i use vmware fusion) so i don't have to do the really tedious job of reinstalling windows xp with all programs, etc. etc.?

  • If it shows up in the "Select a Source" dropdown list then you should be able to back it up. I use VirtualBox and my virtual Windows 7 machine gets backed up every time I back up my Macintosh HD

  • @tldhthompson to backup bootcamp partitions, use Winclone, also free and also great software as is CCC.

  • Is it possible to burn it as a .iso to a CD as the target disk?

  • I'm not sure if CCC has this ability. There's a free app called Burn that may be able to help you out.

  • thank u ... it really helped. i needed help to back up my stuff without using time machine (since i am using the tiger version). once again thank u so much..

  • thx this really help me a lot

  • Good review but I wish you showed how to restore from a cloned backup, so now I have to find another video that shows that

  • First comment I win gf. :3 -kitten-
