Interestingly Charlieboohxxx my maine coons moult far far less than my shorthaired exotic plus i have heard it said that some people that are allergic to cats are not allergic to a maine coons fur. Ask a breeder if you can visit and see how it goes. Good Luck

My father's Coon boy is roughly 14 years old, still playful, and when you walk in the kitchen, he's there on the edge of the table sticking his paw out at you. I <3 him, they're so sociable and love attention.

Yes. A LOT. God help you if you leave a coat on the sofa, they'll lie on it and leave loads of fur on it.

That keeps happening with my Maine Coon, and it's a real job getting it off again! I still love him to bits though.

Maine Coons are the coolest cats ever. They can look like both a masculine or feminine pet. I've got two. I'm not prejudice with any animals, but I especially like the silver Coons!

I have a maine coon too and he's about 2 and a half. I asked the vet about this and she said they are a playful breed all throughout their lives.

Much like any other breed i guess......... some are really playful, some really cant see the point :-)

However they are quite 'clownish' in their behaviour so a bit quirky in their own way.

I just adore the breed

I have to ask you guys this as well, my cat does some very uncat like behavior such as, playing in the sink, drinking from the toilet, playing fetch, chasing his tail, and jumping on people like dogs do when they meet someone. does your cats exhibit any behavior like this.

i took in a cat that followed me home from outside one day. right now hes 3 years old and about 25lbs.he has mutilple extra, toes scars from fighting outside a small chunk missing out of his ear and he eats things a goat wouldnt touch, so i named him freaky. big loveable giants thats all maine coons are.

I agree, but 25 lbs for a Maine Coon at 3 is kinda heavy. I have a 3 yr old Maine & he's about 12-15lbs. Have you taken him to the vet.? Just take care & love him & he will be with you for a long time!!! They are very loyal cats!

so cute!!! i have a maine coon called charlie he is only part main coon he has white paws big ears and shorter fur but he is just as playful! now he is 7 years old.

My cat Bones is only part Maine Coon. At 13 lbs, he is much smaller than a purebred but he has the ears and the extra long bushy tail. His fur isn't nearly as long but he has a soft short double coat. He just turned 1 and the vet says he has the potential to still gain 3-4 more pounds. The best part is that he has the same gentle and patient disposition. Best cat ever. When I eventually get a bigger place, I plan on getting a purebred friend for him.
