  • Matt Bellamy used this at bizarre fest in 99 or 2000 to make the song Bliss right on the spot while they were performing lol I thought it seemed familiar when the vid started..

  • nice sound man

    im thinking of buying one

  • the chorus on this thing is worth its weight in gold awesome sound

  • How do you create this arpegiator? I have a Juno 6, is it possible to generate this on the 6 as well? on the 6 I only have up&down and the number of octaves....

is it possible to create more rhythmical patterns on the 60?

  • great song!

  • AWESOME!

  • 3:05 Portal!!!

  • Is that real wood on yer Juno-60?

Real wood makes any cinth sound more better

  • @DancingSpiderman

Is that real trolling on yer comment ?

Real trolling makes any comment sound more better

  • @N0ii666

    ass.

  • Btw if you're serious, how the casing material could change the output sound of the circuits inside ? It's like sayin' that a car with an aluminium body has a better motor than a car with a plastic body...

  • The new generation: "I don't know how to play keyboard, but I'm good at pushing buttons and twisting knobs."

  • @pocketocrisps

it's only a techdemo brother, to show the sound and versatility of the instrument. it's not supposed to be a minimal techno song to listen to in the disco or anything like this. :)

  • @SuzanneKowalski Yeah, it was just an observation of how simple it is nowadays to sound like you know what you're doing, rather than a critique of the person's skill. c: Maybe I should have been more clear.

  • @pocketocrisps

oh i see your point, and you're absolutely right about it.. there are exceptions, but nowadays the standard is to select templates and samples on some noise making device, put it here and there and voilá, "music" for the dumb folks...

actually, i wasn't clear enough either, when i mentioned the minimal-techno-disco thing, i tried to be ironic as well... :D

  • i have a juno-60,wondering about its midi very old style plug,is it ok to fit modern midi plugs or worthwhile?also the transpose key light is always on,any advice or tweaks please share thanks

  • heh heh .. i got a tr 707 and hooked it up .. and now .. oHHHH hehehe .. drumtraks has a click out.. thats groovy , BUT tr 707 uses it's rimshot .. i like to load up all 16 steps and play " subtract 8 .. add 4 anywhere " the game ! this is awesome

  • @1:10 begin trance

  • Hi can someone tell me how to connect a TR 606 to a Juno 60 so it triggers like this one. Thanks.

  • what is controlling the synth? is it a tr- of some kind, or is it a built-in appregiator?

  • @rockerzac99

    internal arpeggiator

  • @retrosound72

What is the arpeggiator labelled as on the synth?

  • Reminds me of old DOS games :D

  • juno 6 analog?....it's not analog right?

  • @Spunkyinternall I believe all juno and jupiter synthesizers were analog.

  • @keyboardjeff Well in the studio I'm workin @ the moment we got two 60's and one 106.

I believed it were DCO's? and google gave me an correct answer..it indeed R DCO's.

And without the Chorus effect on the juno it sounds terrible XD!!

    anyways juno kicks ass ;)

  • @Spunkyinternall the oscillators are digitally tuned. meaning they are tuned with digital precision, not an " exact dailed in voltage" like a vco , but with digital precision .. they are still oscillators and not digital waveforms like an emulator.. after that .. everything is analog..

  • @PHAEDRIDER Thanks for the information, this knowledges comes in handy ;)!

  • When I was a kid I used to be impressed by buzzy noises and filter sweeps.

  • allways love this roland juno 60 i did an album with 1992

  • Great sounds.r

  • i'd just get this synth just because of the oldschool colors and looks

  • Imagine taking this, a power supply and sound amplification system back in time to mid 17th century Salem, Massachusetts and playing it at midnight

  • @neil73

I wonder how quickly you would be burned at stake?...

  • @neil73 witch

  • @neil73

    hahah

  • @neil73 Ahahahahahahahahahahaha. that would be epic.

  • I have one of these keyboards, they are amazing! You can do so much with a Juno, its insane. These keyboards are incredible synths. I suggest them to any keyboard player.

  • this is such a powerful synth, its like harnessing a storm! plug it into something with a subwoofer and the place will rumble! (just don't break your speakers)

  • Well, do you really need 5 octaves on a synth? I think that 3 octaves are more than enough, of course it depends on what you play but you didn't use more than 1 octave at all :p

  • why can't a company make one synth that has sounds like this, a nord lead and a korg ms-20. if only :(

  • Just recently bought a juno-6. Could someone explain how to select the different sounds or do you have to change them yourself? This is my first proper synth so any help would be appreciated!!!

  • @fatitalinman

the Juno-6 has no sound memory.

  • @retrosound72 So what is the memory section on it for then??

  • @GanEdenAustralia

the Juno-60 has memory not the Juno-6

  • @fatitalinman what you hear is what you program. No memory

  • @GanEdenAustralia a pencil and some piece of paper

  • Is the juno-60 the same synthesizer Muse use for their arpeggiated synths? I'm not too sure but i'm convinced its not the MK and I've heard it might be the juno-60... any chance of a demo with the same sort of arpeggioes that Muse use? :)

  • @MeisterGeneral mmm i would say Muse uses a Nord (maybe a Lead2) for all their synth-stuff, it sounds really nordish to me and you can see some nord racks when they go on tour

  • @DJPeteJames I have a Juno-6 (same thing without patch memory!) and a Mopho Keyboard polychained to a Tetra (like 5 Pro08 voices with extra suboscillators) and they're both different beasts.

The Juno is much simpler, more a machine of inspiration triggering and instant-gratification. The DSI is more of a weapon of bass destruction, with extensive modulation routing and very deep programming. 4 LFOs, mod matrix, etc

Final words, the Juno is more limited. No way you reached the end of your Pro08

  • kicks ass right there on the spot. cool.

  • @DJPeteJames You shall have them all in synth heaven.

  • @DJPeteJames also an Alpha Juno can rip if that is what you are looking for, but then if you are trying to go that route and you have money, get a Jupiter 6. I tend to lean more towards Roland than anything.

  • @DJPeteJames actually an SH-2 or sh-101 sounds pretty fat. i like how tight the sh2 can get..

  • @DJPeteJames an OB8 or PolySix can sound good if you know what you're doing.

  • nice sounds

  • ReFx Nexus virtual Room sounds better :-)

  • If they would have waited on the release of the 6 till they got the memory options as in the 60 they would have had a serious competitor to the Polysix although I think the Polysix would have won out. Roland would have gave Korg a Serious run for the money and still remained a competitor.

  • Classic roland sound like the 6 (Which I have) with the bonus of a little bit of memory

  • @DJPeteJames

hmmmm. no easy question. I am not a friend of the Prophet 08. I like the sound of the older Prophets also the P-600 much more. The Pro-One is one of my fay Mono synths ever.

  • @DJPeteJames

The secret is: the Juno has a powerfull DCO, a bass boost and very fast envelopes.

  • @retrosound72 But who says the classic Roland chorus doesn't help either? ;)

  • Question for anyone with an opinion-

if midi had nothing to do with it which would you prefer the 106 and 60?

  • @snapplefacts Hmm.. what do you want? I like the 60 because it has an arpeggiator and really nice strings. But I adore the 106 for its bright square sounds and the pads. So it all depends on what you prefer to have. I believe the 60 has glide but I don't remember because the 60 i used to use was in a different studio than my own, which has the 106.

  • @snapplefacts Check out retrosound72's demo videos of the 60 and 106. I'd post the links, but YouTube won't let me. So i've sent them to you in a private message. In regards to the 60, notice the bass at 108 when you combine both wave shapes. They both sound really cool. Some say the 60 sounds fuller, but with that in mind, I still prefer the 106 because I feel it sounds brighter.

  • Sounds pretty cold 2 me. I prefer vanguard for phat basses an leads.

  • that chorus on 5:36 makes the stereo width SO DOPE.

  • man, i would listen to this on my portable player. ;]

  • I got one of this from 1986 to 1989 and I loved it, but I had no money to pile synths, so I sold it and I bought a Roland D20 and a Kawai Q80 Seq in favor of MIDI and multimbral possibilities. God, how wrong I was, I am still regreted for that. But it was not the only mistake, when I went to the music house with the money to buy a new D20, they received a used SuperJX 10P for the same price, finally I got the D20... What a stupid! :-)

  • I use a Kenton DCB to Midi converter for the past 20 years!!

  • Gosh. That really sounds 100% better than new non-analog synths. It's just so much warmer and well, better.

  • haha cool! sounds similar to a SID 6581 from Commodore 64! :D

  • HI, I bought mine 25 years ago and still use it but has no midi. How did you syncronized it with the drum machine? I have a BOSS Drum machine but cannot sync the Juno. Any Help!! And yes @ DJPeteJames The Juno 60 has "Fatter" sounds compared to Juno 106. The 106 has Midi incorporated but Roland messed up the sound. Personally still love the sound of the 60. But you need to tweek the machine. I managed to get very rich sounds from it!! Only no Midi and can only use to live record.

  • @expressmalta

I use the Trigger out from the drummachine to trigger the arpeggiator ( clock In)

  • @retrosound72

Thank for the info. Unfortunatly my Boss drum machine has no trigger out!! Damn!!

  • @expressmalta

if u dont like it any more write me i ll take it for free

    ;-)

  • @michp2 Yes Shure why not, I will also pay for the flight in that case!!!! :-P That's why I kept it for 25 years!! Not that I dont like it... I LOVE IT!! No other analog synth comes close for that rich warm sounds.

  • @expressmalta

there are dcb converters for the thing. you can either get a din sync msy 2 from doepfer or a MDCB-2 : MIDI / Juno-60 Interface (google the last one youtube external links are verboten)

  • gotta admit, the Juno 60 is still one of my favorite synths in my studio! =]

  • I just bought one @ Value Village for $50.xx. Woot!

  • Fade to Grey!!

  • how the fuck did Roland go from making Jupiters and Junos to the fucking 201??? the one synth company that i don't give a shit if its integrated to my computer because the whole point is that i don't want it to be software and they ditch the sound for PC compatability... dammit

  • @d3p3ch3mod3 dunno why but it's the same thing with Akai (from huge and fat sounding MPC 60/3000 to software-ish sounding 1000/500/5000). dammit

  • @virtualboy1995 F*** me mate, how did you know. Miss my Juno-60. The sad thing? Didn't even manage to sell it, had to give it to my housemate because I had to leave the country and I owed them rent. As for the drugs, well, been clean except for occasional alcohol. Eventually back to a day job, and I mainly just poke around in Logic from time to time.

  • I saw this synth in a hock shop about 8 years ago. They were selling it for about $250 dollars or something like that. I almost fell over. Even worse, I didn't have the small amount of money they were asking for it :(

  • boahr der choruus an dem teil ist sowas von fett das haut mich so um

  • i sell one contact me if interested

  • ohh ohh meh too!!!

  • Nice werk!

  • Awesome analog, phat sounds. I miss my Juno 60. *sniff* Had to sell it because I was running out of cash at one stage.

  • You sound like every other real musician.

The drugs take over sooner or latter.

and gear, get sold for more important things.

Now where are my korg electribes? lol

  • This might sound weird, but the Juno 6 and the Juno 106 I've used both sound the same. This sounds much more raw than both of them. Has anyoen else notices this, or is my Ju6 in need of a service?

  • Juno 60 has always been fatter

  • I saw one for £250 but not all the notes were triggering everytime and volume had crackles. I guess it could be contacts but there were about 4 or 5 keys with the issue so I had to let it go. How much would it be worth in that condition? Casing was average. Thanks

  • the sound is different, the JU-60 is more agressive and raw

  • fantastic synthesizer, we've got one at my house at it sounds great, definately recommend buying one to anyone looking for an analog synth

  • I saw one of these thrown away at the tip yesterday ready to be crushed. I asked if i could buy it but the person said new rules ment that nobody is aloud to have any items. So i said to the guy,i thought the council wants us to recycle,so why can`t i recycle the keyboard??? No answer came back at me.

  • you think a juno 6 is worth $240?

  • i'd buy one for 240. thats a great deal.

  • ace

    Dez Sanderson

  • thats one sick sounding synthesizer.

  • @banivakacacani not realy,i heard better

  • Arnaud rebotini - the swamp waltz

  • or what new synthesizers c an you get that are similar in sound produced too this?

    fuck this rocks

  • none ):

  • @keepitacrime id say a Roland JUNO-G kinda similar

  • i really want to find this keyboard, how much should they go for now adays?

  • @keepitacrime I sold one 2 years ago on eBay and got around £200. Great fat/warm bass/string sounds on this machine. easy to get passable piano etc sounds programmed. Will always be a classic. The Juno 106 is the same machine but has a built in sequencer (if I can remember correctly).

  • Juno 106 has MIDI, loses the arpeggiator, loses the ability to modulate pulse width by envelope and has a different chipset. Similar sound, but different. The 60 seems more "raw" and the 106 more "polished" to me. Both are great synths.

  • Oh, meant to add--no sequencer in the 106.

  • watchcert18:Bet you are regretting selling that for £200 when they are going for 600-700 on ebay. Nice machine but a tad over hyped at that price, just like the sh101 and 303.

  • Tasty!

  • I think most of lady gaga's song has Juno synths. Am i right? O.o

  • yes

  • hell nahh!!! lady gaga is mainstream new music.

she has nothing to do with old school music

  • Well if you listen to lady gaga's songs you'll know what im talking about.

  • her music is krap

  • i agree. Ga Ga is just a piece of ga ga.

  • Dude she sounds SO much like madonna.

  • Her music doesnt represent the true spirit of real old school music.

Shes part of MTV's fake wanna b old school, but in reality shes typical mainstream.

I recommend you listen to Human League if you wanna hear true music

  • Human league - couldn't agree more

  • amen to that!

  • Her music is commercial mainstream garbage..no SOUL in it whatsoever. Stick to the old electrofunk, you can't go wrong.

  • which synth is good for trance and electro?

  • access virus

  • Oh ok, thanks dude

  • The detuned effect at 1:34 is why I love synthesizers. God bless beat frequencies.

  • That's because he turned on the first chorus.

  • @MichaelJHuman lol xD

  • @MichaelJHuman Fat and Sweet!!!

  • @MichaelJHuman, it's no detune effect. It's a plain and simple chorus effect.

  • Back in the day when you could still program the whole patch without going through 20 menus :)

I guess they still make some synths like this though.

  • JUNO-60 is a fantastic analog machine i love it :)

  • btw, i.... WORSHIP this beat! did u make it urself or is it from somewhere? anyway, friggin awesome, dude!!

  • selfmade!

    thanks

  • Where is the drum beat coming from?

  • TR-606

  • Are the keys (velocity) touch sensitive?

  • no velocity and aftertouch

  • Is it Midi?

  • no Midi

but with a Midi to DCB converter

  • i have a juno 60 since 1994.

but i had never another machine to connect the j60 effectively like in the video.

in a midi equipment the juno 60 is an outlaw... it doesnt fit in modern midi times...

    its a pity...

and- if it is not fit inside-it wrecks -

  • In the last few seconds, the tone you were getting was pure 80s bliss. =D

  • Sorry Im a n00b at this...whats making the beat in the background...thats not the synth as well is it? or is it a drum machine?

  • the beat is the Roland TR-606 drum machine

  • i think its a seperate drum machine... right? i kinda hope so, cause i chouse roland SH-201 over this synth, but now, hearing how clean and awesome it sounds, i kinda regret it :/ but im pretty sure the SH-201 has a few more fancy functions and buttons

  • hey is it still possible to buy this, i have been looking to buy a synthesizer and cant find them anywhere, if it is possible how much.... by the way this is excellent sounds hella dope :)

  • You can also get a nice effect by using both chorus 1&2 together.

  • ooh, what was that PWM effect? sounded like real heavy trebble effect. i dont think i have that on my SH-201:/

  • if you mean the high pitch sorta sounds that are very sharp,, then this is achieved by setting it to LP and turn the REs up high and carefully playing with the cutoff. I mean carefully btw cos it can burst out high volumes of high pitched sound, It hurts

  • PWM = Pulse-width modulation and I'm pretty shure you have that on your 201. But it's not an Effect. It's a form of modulationg the Oscillator. (so you might find this under your oscillator settings) Check wiki or some synth sites for mor info waht PWM is.

  • Sounds like Arnaud Rebotini - The Swamp Walz

  • I see. what, then, is the kind of cord that fits into the 606?

  • 3,5 mm audio

  • yes, that's what I thought. what confuses me is that the trigger out on the 606 is not a 1/4" ; it's a much smaller jack that I'm not familiar with. the ARP in on the juno is a 1/4".

  • you need a cord adapter

  • hey there

what are you doing to make the 606 trigger the arpeggio? what kind of cord are you using? (I've got a juno60 and 606 and don't know how to do this)

  • You must program a beat and the Low Tom rhythm on the 606. Than connect you the the LOW TOM Trigger out with the JU-60 ARP Clock IN. Use a simple audio cord. Thats all.

  • Boy cant you just fall in LOVE with these creatures they are so lovable like cuddly toys

  • Hey what comes close to the juno 60 and rolands jupiter series??? i like the thick warm melody sounds these awesome synths produce but i looked on musicians friend and nowadays synths dont sound like these ones

As you can see i dont know much about synths but my question is

  • Is it possible to get a descent synth with similar bass sounds and arpeggiator on less than $700 dollars??? if so can anyone tell me???

I just love this old school 80's sounds a lot . i would appreciate it if anyone could help me out thank you so much.

Just to mention a few influences of the sound im looking for: A flock of seagulls, A-HA, Alphaville, Fancy, Terminator 1 theme song.

    YOU GET THE IDEA

  • Roland JX-8P: not so expensive and very good analog sound

  • Much better than this synth--2 oscillators!

  • Хорус бешеный.

  • Almost got one of these new, but the salesperson talked me into waiting for the Juno 106...I did and found it not as 'punchy' as the 6/60 and lacked the arpeggiator, though still good and had MIDI. I have no idea why Roland dropped the arpeggiator on the 106.

  • found a top juno 6 in marocco for 75 bux-yeah

  • So If you don't mind me asking, what is the patch you are using? Or if you are not using a patch, how do you have your settings? Thanks!

  • no preset, this is a self made patch

  • Dude, your Rack needs some extra support or something!

Very impressive sound.. And from a Roland? Roland? Who are not exactly famous for their Harsh gritty sound?!!

I have a SH-201, & I've barely played it. Probably because it sounds NOTHING as sick as this piece of Audio Nuclear Sound Sculpting Warfare!

I can imagine Josh Wink himself having a weekend off to delve into the controls of this Synth!!

  • you're comparing the sh-201 to a juno 60... obviously not a fair comparison since once is digital and the other one is analog. also the sh-02 is another huge sounding roland synth.

  • its a shame you cant enjoy a great analog synth like this one like the rest of us, if u call it bees flying aroudn, your minds jsut far too simple to comprehend this great invention

  • o0 Nice1 !!!

  • Formidable

  • this is one beastly synth!

  • yeah.. i wanna hear more of the juno.. quit the drums man.

  • i tried one of these junos and it was just perfect not too much and not too little
