Flick of the wrist is just so touching. I love the piano work and the leads on guitar and i love how it transitions into Lily of the Valley. Brian May is a savior in my eyes. All hail Queen. :)
the thing people forget is that all 4 members of Queen wrote No1 hit songs. It hard to think its 20 years since Freddie died, but only bonus is we have the music to keep him alive.
I had never heard this song before, I thought Dream Theater did a dam good cover of it so I went and looked up the original :p Its awesome Queen right there!
Hot Space was interesting but not really my kind of music. The live renditions of the songs off it were much better IMO. But then it all went downwards with The Works. As for NOTW, I think it is a good album, definitely stronger than Jazz to say the least. 'Spread Your Wings', 'It's Late' and 'My Melancholy Blues' are definitely a treat.
In a way, Queen were crap in the 1980s, although they did release a couple of great singles. This is probably their best album along with A Night At The Opera & the debut album
@TheKenfig I agree. Queen is the eighties just weren't the same band. They became truly commercial and the music was too synth-oriented for most of the fans. However, I think that they came back to the full glory on The Miracle and Innuendo, the latter being a true comeback to the roots IMO.
@Sheep490 I will have to check out those two albums as I am familiar with only the singles from them, but to me they will have a lot to live up to against the albums I mentioned. I dont really rate 'A Day At The Races' much either as in places, in spite of some great tracks, it tends to copy the style of it's predecessor but without the strength of material. Cheers
@TheKenfig Heh, I see what you mean - the singles may sound not really good, but believe me - Inuuendo is a pretty good album. The title track, 'Ride The Wild Wind' and 'Bijou' are great tracks, and only 'All God's People' seems to be lackluster in quality. The Miracle isn't that good, but 'I Want It All', 'Scandal' and 'Was It All Worth It' are worth a listen. And 'ADATR' - well, personally I listen to it more often than to 'A Night etc...'. I guess it's a matter of opinion! ;) Cheers!
@Sheep490 I like 'I want It all', thats a good single. On ADATR I always liked 'Somebody To Love' from when it was a single ; I wanted it to be Christmas no.1 in 76 but it stayed at no.2 . 'Tie Your Mother Down' is a good opener but I feel the general quality of the material is stronger on ANATO album myself. 'News Of The World' again is patchy in my opinion with a couple of outstanding Queen classics to open the album. I bought 'Hot Space' when it came out in 82 and liked it for being different
I have always considered Queen as sort an extension of what The Beatles started with the ability to combine all styles and eras/genres of sounds together to form a hell of a musical journey that can take you into another world
@alanmartin18 You're not wrong it takes all three to get the extra joy. These songs played together epitomize a nearly 3000 year old quote from Aristotle, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts". Great post!

@howdyfeller Personally I think that Queen goes beyond the Beatles. They literally take every single style of music and make something great of it.
