In their book, Mormonism--Shadow or Reality, we find the following statement:
Mormon scholars have been unable to locate any sermon by Brigham Young in which he identifies the personages as God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. As we have shown before, in one sermon Brigham Young said that "The Lord did not come... But he did send his angel to this same obscure person, Joseph Smith jun.,..." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, p. 171)
@omiolo "The Lord did not come with the armies of heaven ... but He did send his angel to this same obscure person, Joseph Smith jun.," is what Brigham said exactly.
Sandra said the same. That the Lord didn't come down, but instead sent his Angel's to Joseph. Sandra skipped a few word's of an irrelevant part of the sentence. What's your point?
@Ingle92protege This is Brigham talking about Joseph's first vision, clearly stating that the Lord did not come down, when in fact Joseph said he did. So you've dug yourself a hole there because that's something i want to know why he said that.. Why did Brigham say the lord didn't come down and Joseph said he did?
Midland, a small community of fewer than 15,000, has a branch of fewer than 50 people on Sundays. Yet within a few short hours after -- and after all members were accounted for and safe -- the elders quorum and Young Women organizations had begun to make plans on how to help their neighbors..
While some want to credit a specific "believing gene," Poelman said she favors the idea of spiritual instinct, or the light of Christ, which is given to everyone.
Yet despite a desire to believe, it's not always easy, she said, referencing the Bible story in Mark, where a father brings his ill son to the Savior and asks that he be healed, then tearfully pleads, "Lord, I believe, help thou my unbelief."
"We are fortunate indeed to have the gospel of Jesus Christ to give us a foundation from which we can be free to fly, investigate and ask, because as we know, all truth is circumscribed into one great whole and there is no difference between science and religion," she said Friday at the LDS Life Science Research Symposium, sponsored by BYU.
Two Mormon sisters from Idaho Falls, Idaho, are moving forward on NBC's "America's Got Talent," and are one step closer to winning $1 million and headlining a show in Las Vegas.
Ali and Christina Christensen charmed the show's celebrity judge panel in preliminary rounds, but it was a national audience who voted July 13 to send them into the next and final round.
In a revolutionary new launch of Mormon.org 4.0, 2,000 Mormons have completed profiles, 13,000 more are in process, explaining why they live their faith and why they are a Mormon. That number is expected to eventually jump to 100,000 as the Church continues to ask its members on LDS*org to consider sharing their faith on Mormon*org...
Mormon church leaders have restated the faith's unequivocal position against gay marriage in a letter to members in Argentina, where the government is debating whether to legalize gay unions.
"The doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is absolutely clear: Marriage is between one man and woman and is ordained of God," said the July 6 letter from church President Thomas S. Monson.
@omiolo haha!!! Love your statement from Monson btw.. "Marriage is between one man and woman".. Not "One man and ONE woman", because he know's the doctrine of polygamy
Liz could have gone home to Honeyville, Utah, and given up her dream--to become a nurse practitioner. But three months later, she helped carry the 2002 Olympic Torch from Atlanta to Salt Lake City. Her segment? Up the south lawn of the White House, where she handed the torch to President George Bush. And then she finished graduate school...
Historically, illustrations help convey the scriptural stories found in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Artists' creations vary in concept and content. From the familiar compositions of Arnold Friberg (1913-2010),
who passed away 1 July 2010, that define Book of Mormon characters in oversized, muscular terms, to the gentle, even romantic impressions created by Minerva Teichert (1888-1976), or to the contemporary realism employed by Walter Rane, stories from the scripture come to life on canvas.
A young woman from Samoa was soft-spoken and polite as she led a group of tourists around the Grandin Building on Main Street in downtown Palmyra. It's the place where the first Book of Mormon was printed. She asked one of the three or four children in the group about a story in the Book of Mormon and helped the little girl come up with the correct answer. Then the young woman paused and said, "I know" the Book of Mormon is true...
The way Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker sees it, Mormon pioneers had it right.
Motivated by a healthy distrust of the outside world and packing little more than pluck, they settled the Salt Lake Valley with an eye toward self-sufficiency.
That meant taming the desert by growing food, conserving water, centralizing services and living wisely off the land.
As part of a stake or ward emergency plan, the Church has instructed priesthood leaders to consider how to contact missionaries and members following a disaster and how to communicate the status of members, buildings and other necessary information to area leaders.
The recent earthquakes in Chile and Haiti demonstrated the instability of communication systems during an emergency. Land line and cell phone service was severely impacted during the quakes, rendering useless most traditional forms of electronic communication.
@Ingle92protege Natural disaster or civil unrest can occur anywhere at almost anytime — and members need to be prepared. The Church has directed units to prepare emergency response plans through their ward and stake welfare committees functioning under the direction of the bishop or stake president. Plans should be updated periodically as local circumstances change. Each plan should include:
@omiolo I wrote Mormonism's central figure is Elohim and Joseph. It's true and you know it deep down. You only use Jesus to clean up your sin, ONLY IF YOU NEED HIM.. If not then just throw him back in the cupboard for future use.
p.s don't forget to wipe the cob web's off of him before you use him again!
@omiolo You know it because i knew it too when i was Mormon. You worship Elohim who live's on planet Kolob is the fact and not Jesus. Jesus is just there to wash away your sin, ONLY WHEN NEEDED. What was dishonest about anything that i said?
Yes, the pioneer's had it right. Not Jesus leading the way, the pioneer's did it all.
@Ingle92protege I am surprised you do NOT parrot the usual ANTImormon talk. How long before you start telling us how we worship the Prophet Joseph Smith? Or how we secretly kill those that leave the LDS church (see Pastor Reed). Or how our Prophet is a gay man involved in unspeakables (see Ed Decker).
@omiolo I've not heard many "Anti-Mormon's" say Mormon's worship Joseph. Only those who don't know much about Mormonism say that. Everyone know's Mormonism worship some guy from planet Kolob who was once a man who sinned. Ed Decker is a joke. He doesn't even need to lie like he does when Mormonism already has so many mistake's anyway. I don't know much about "Pastor Reed" but if he did say that then he's a fool.
If you want a reliable source, then go see Sandra Tanner. All her work is backed up
@omiolo I honestly don't care what other people say. You can't just hear some guy say "Mormon's worship Smith" and then apply that quotation to everyone who apposes Mormonism. Those guy's clearly have no credibility. I've experienced it for year's and i know for a fact Mormon's don't worship joseph. Like i said go to someone reliable like Sandra Tanner. She doesn't believe Mormon's worship joseph either.
I'd love you to find one lie or one piece of misinformation on Sandra Tanner's website..
@omiolo She doesn't say her research is lacking in scholarship. I said that, and you can test it out for yourself by reading anything on her website and then go research it to see if it is correct.
I challenge you to read anything on her site and try claim it as lies. I'll document anything for you.
@Ingle92protege Why would I go to her website? I have listened to WAY too many of her videos, start reading way too many of her books and each time I shake my head think the world is in trouble if people believe these distortions! BTW, isn't MRM trying to buy her so called "ministry"?
@omiolo Of course i'm not associated with the Tanner's. I only go on their website every now and again if i need to know about something to do with Mormonism and where i can find the sources they claim. Does MRM stand for something? I'm from the UK so maybe MRM is something in USA?
You still didn't tell me anything you read of what Sandra wrote as a lie... Still waiting..
The Mormon Jesus is a failure. According to them he failed in Palestine, because he started a church that would fall into apostasy, so he had to come to the America's and get it right. But it did not work because there is nothing in the culture of today's native americans that points to semitic influences.
@SenatusPopulesQueRom Jesus left the keys to Peter then left. It was his apostles that "failed" if that's even the right word to use. They were killed off by Roman persecution. As far as today's culture goes, look into the Hopewell tribe - they sing to YHWH, do those letters look familiar to you? They have stone carvings written in Hebrew.
@SenatusPopulesQueRom Let me rephrase, Jesus sets up church, Jesus leaves church to his apostles, apostles are killed by Romans, few hundred years of this and we have no revelation left and a bunch of guys who mean well or are taking advantage of the situation. New Church created, principles changed. So maybe the apostles didn't fail but they weren't kept alive long enough for Christs real church to remain on the earth. Unless my smoking got in the way of my logic.
"That will be able to be seen from the freeway," she said.
Nielsen agreed and said each time he comes to Brigham City he has taken a different road, to get a feeling for how the temple will be seen from the west.
Planning Commissioner Larry Jensen complimented Nielsen for his plans for the landscaping of the temple grounds.
Andrews’ ward leaders enthusiastically agreed to help.
On June 5, 20 adults and 17 older youth from the Highland ward joined about 20 Presbyterians to clean up the playground.
Andrews said the project was a chance for two religious groups to come together for the good of the community, as the park will be open to all children with autism.
Three games into his freshman year, Eric Weddle fulfilled his mother's hope that he would start one game by the end of his senior year. In fact, many seniors would bleed to have the kind of season that Weddle had as a true freshman in 2003.
The 5-foot-11 defensive playmaker started nine of 12 games, was among the team leaders in several statistical categories and earned freshman all-American honors while helping the team to a 10-2 record and win over Southern
@SenatusPopulesQueRom where would you be if you could NOT or would NOT name call and try and degrade people? Probably an active Mormon trying to do good for others.
With you there is very little trying because you make it so easy. I haven't been to this video in months and you are STILL posting nonsense. What is it with you and your desperate need to defend the lies of Mormonism?
When people ask me to recommend the best five volumes published about Joseph Smith, this is always one of the five that I recommend. This was followed up by the initiation of Dean Jessee's effort to publish the Papers of Joseph Smith.
Young men, added Brother Ochoa, will be asked to enlist divine guidance as they participate in the new Duty to God program. "As they select their activities, they are to do it prayerfully. They will discover many things about themselves that will help them grow and develop."
On the other hand, the orbital alignment is close enough to produce an interesting calendrical alignment. After 100 saros periods, the lunar orbit is in about the same orientation relative to the sun, which causes the Judean calendar to also begin to repeat (because it uses the actual observed lunar position rather than the average position.)
Note, however, that the saros alignment is only sufficient for eclipses to reoccur for up to 70 saros periods; thus, eclipses do not reoccur after 100 saros periods
"If the world keeps chipping away at the divine nature of women, it is probable that our relationships in marriage will not bring about the sanctification necessary for exaltation or, at a minimum, the process will be delayed," he said.
Referring to the phrase, "men have the priesthood and women have been given the blessing of procreation," Elder Pace spoke of the importance of each role in a relationship, and the ability couples have to complement one another in their eternal roles.
When we fully understand who we are, she said, it is easier to maintain this faith.
While traveling to Africa, Sister Bednar attended a Relief Society meeting being taught by a recent convert who taught her the true meaning of fasting.
"It is only a fast when we have food, and we choose not to eat it," the teacher taught.
Sister Bednar also shared memories of growing up during the Cold War and the animosity that existed between the United States and the Soviet Union.
In front of Princess Sirindhorn was a large metal plaque that was covered with a delicate curtain. Engraved on the plaque was: "Clean water system development and sanitation facility provision project for schools and villages in Tak Province under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in memory of His Royal Highness Prince Chakraband Pensiri by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
Princess Sirindhorn presented token gifts to school children. Dr. Sumkiat Chobphol, Deputy Secretary General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission of Thailand, gave the first speech. The princess was then presented a copy of the dedicatory booklet on a golden tray. Thailand Bangkok Mission President Michael S. Smith spoke on behalf of the Church, using the proper royal Thai language.
Also attending were official palace personnel, government officials, Tak province school representatives, five TV cameramen filming the occasion to be broadcast later, and Princess Sinindhorn's entourage.
Self-reliance means using all of our blessings from Heavenly Father to care for ourselves and our families and to find solutions for our own problems. Each of us has a responsibility to try to avoid problems before they happen and to learn to overcome challenges when they occur.
In Kirtland, Ohio, the Prophet Joseph Smith received a revelation. The Lord told him, Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me (D&C 88:63). One way we can draw near to the Lord is by following His prophet.
Match each picture below with the things President Thomas S. Monson has asked us to do.
"President Taylor demonstrated great leadership in the establishing of new communities in western United States, his leadership brought a new vision of the potential for the Lord's restored Church here on earth. His beginnings were in a land of libraries, museums, theaters and universities. This culture trained him to be articulate, dignified and with polished refinement.
"As Thou knowest, we have gathered today in historic Bluff, Utah, the end of the trail for one of the most difficult travels of pioneers in the settlement of the western United States. We are here to dedicate a statue honoring John Taylor, a prophet of the Lord, who under his leadership called at least 100 companies of pioneers to settle and build communities in southern Utah, Nevada and Arizona, one of which was the Hole-in-the-Rock settlement.
to everybody against our church. itz sad to see you like this haha. you spend so much time outting down our church. look at yourself first. if your so perfect then forgive! hahahahah. LDS stand up!
By the way, Galatians refers to any OTHER gospel being taught. Yet we affirm that the Bible is true and that the teachings in the Book of Mormon support the Bible and are another testament or witness of the truth.
"And aother bsheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be cone fold, and one shepherd." - John 10:16
What the heck? Jesus in North America?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's a load of bull.
See Galatians 1:8
Maybe there really was an angel and maybe it really did bring golden tablets, but it wasn't of God. It was from the Father of Lies (john 8:44), meant to look enough like Christianity to convince people that they know Jesus, when it's really a perversion of the Gospel. Satan is smart enough to make his lies subtle. Blatant lies are too easy to spot. Mormonism is from the Deceiver.
In what way does the Book of Mormon look close enough, as you say, to Christianity to deceive people? Could you expound on that? To what chapters and verses are you referring ? The Book of Mormon contains Christ's gospel. It is true. I know it is true. I asked God and He told me that it is. That is all we ask others to do, not to blindly believe what Joseph Smith said, but to have faith in Christ and ask if it's true. God will answer. He promised ask and ye shall receive but let him ask in faith
I was not refering to the Book of Mormon. I was refering to Satan's angel that brought the tablets (looked like a messenger from God) and the practice and teaching of Mormonism look simlar to Christianity. Mormonism looks to nonMormons very much like Christianity. They both proclaim Jesus as Lord. They both claim to believe the Bible. But the Bible is clear that any new or different message is not of God. Anyone who believes that the Bible is God's Word, could not also accept the Book of Mormon.
It's also clear that a man who speaks of something that cannot come true isn't a prophet of God, which fully applies to Joseph Smith.
That said, there was no angel because Smith fabricated the story, just like that of the Furst Vision, embellishing it more and more until it was suitably impressive.
As for asking God whether or not the Book of Mormon is His Word, that's very similar to NeoOrthodoxy, a very dangerous idea. NeoOrthodoxy is the idea that the Holy Spirit speaks God's word to people when they read the Bible, so everyone's interpretation is correct because it comes from the HS. That is obviously impossible though. Contradicting interps can't be true.
Likewise, I could ask God about the Book of Mormon and get a different answer, and as long as it's from God, we're both right?
I understand your viewpoint. But there is so much confusion on what the Bible means. Every sect of Christianity interprets the Bible so differently. It seems you believe there is only one truth, contradicting interps cant be true, right? That is why we believe God has sent the BoM & prophets as additional witnesses of Christ's gospel, not something new, it's the same gospel that has been taught since Adam. The difference is the location. it may be a dangerous idea, but God does answer prayer.
If you're looking for a Word from God, go to His Word, the original Word, the Holy Bible. He's given us His Word first and foremost in the Bible. Look there for the answer to whether or not the Book of Mormon is legit.
Jesus Christ is our Saviour, Lord, Judge, The Word, Emmanuel, our Redeemer, and Mediator with God the Father. I will never deny Jesus Christ as my Saviour frankly because I would never want him to question my devotion and love for him. I am very thankful for the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ thanks for posting and God bless!

We have some commenting folks here that would make wonderfull Pharisees. Jesus was crucified because he had so many percieved faults. I realize that most of the comments here are from preachers that live of their poor flocks labors, trying to protect their meal ticket.

Oh yes, the two pages are really alike! As for racism: intellectual honesty and serious research have any place in your ethos? Racist bigotry... yea, like being abolitionists in early XIX century? Or maybe we should have followed the highly Christian ethos of the not-so-racist USA, right? MLK was really doing nothing useful, since the US were such a black-loving country, isn't it? Just look up some Black LDS Website, or better speak with a black LDS member. Isn't it simpler?
Oh, and I didn't know you used telepathy, you even can know what I am doing here... Do you work for CIA? You even can judge if I have any aliases, my Web activities, my potential double personality (being a psychologist in training, I would really be interested in that aspect of myself!)... I wonder if a prophet could do that. Now, what are the statistic probabilities of your judgment, considering the 10000000s of accounts on YouTube? Please, let's be serious.
The main biblical rule for ascertaining a true prophet from a false one is that the prophet's teaching must agree with known revelation, that is, with what was already handed down by God as absolutely essential for belief.
Reference: Deuteronomy 13:1-5 and II Timothy 4:3-5
Jesus was very careful to abide by this rule. He assured His listeners (Matthew 5:17) that His mission on earth was not to destroy the basic truths of the Jewish religion, for example, the existence of a one, true immaterial God, not made of flesh and bones like man.
Even Paul to the Galatians (1:7-9) warns his new Christian converts not to accept another gospel opposed to what he preached even if an angel from heaven were to preach it.
Now Joseph Smith taught doctrines which Jesus and Paul did not teach as part of true, Old Testament belief as well as true Christianity: the doctrine of many gods made up of flesh and bone, polygamy, and the pre-existence of souls. How then, could Joseph have been a true prophet from God since he violated this fundamental requisite for a genuine prophet?
Joseph also made some predictions about the future. In 1835 he predicted that in his own lifetime there would be a great gathering in Western Missouri of all the Mormon faithful before a new, huge Temple which was to be built for the event. Such a happening never came to pass.
Reference: Doctrine & Covenants Sec. 84:1-6
In 1835 Joseph prophesied the coming of the Lord in 1891 to end the kingdom of earth. This never occurred either.
To the sincere inquirer into Mormonism such predictions and their non-fulfillment is a serious difficulty. Joseph claimed the predictions came from God and he prefaced the information with such phrases as "Thus sayeth the Lord, " "The word of the Lord is..."
Finally, it is difficult to accept the Mormon belief that Joseph was a true prophet of God and presumably the last to be heard from, when for the true Christian it is very clearly stated in the New Testament that Jesus Christ is the last of a long line of prophets from God.
"God who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son whom he hath appointed heir of all things." (Epistle to the Hebrews 1:1)
1) Mormons are not the only one depicting Jesus as a white man. 2) I do not need to remind you the many movies where Jesus is represented by a white actor. 3) Being white and delightsome is not a Mormon virtue, since many LDS are black, yellow, brown or whatever color you like. 4) False facts and lies, as well as distortions, are not Christian virtues. 5) Respect and maturity are a must for serious and rational discussions.
No, that is not a talent I possess, fortunately. The ignoratio elenchi seems to be your way of dealing with arguments, though. I addressed specifically the question about both Jesus's 'whiteness' (which Catholic movies seem to espouse, anyway...) and the 'Peter'/'Rock' dilemma. So, I do not see any red herring here, just transparent replies. Can we sustain a mature discussion based on facts and respect, please?
I cannot but agree... Here we find an argument, or problem, some body replying with some facts and direct treating of the same subject, and some body else simply judging, wrongly, too, with a 'red herring' reference totally inconsistent with the situation. Is is so hard to discuss in a rational manner, without sarcasm and poor arguments?
"...their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a white and a delightsome people."
2 Nephi 30:6
It seems being "white" is very important to the Mormons. You won't such a doctrine in the Catholic church.
Oh no, you find idolatry, which is way better, according to the Bible! Come on, as I said before, the supposed 'whiteness' is really a shallow argument, considering current LDS membership records, political and social positions and so on. Just do a little research about the matter, and you'll find the FACTS about this issue. A direct contact with a black LDS member or leader would surely be helpful, too.
Joseph Smith was a con artist,a murderer, and a pervert who was swiftly followed after his death by an even bigger con artist, murderer and pervert namely Brigham Young.Mormonism is nothing but a cult masquerading as a religion of christ which is an even bigger con in the first place." Study your history.
I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam... Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet.
(History of The Church 6:408409)
Joseph boasting he was better than Jesus? Is this a Christian church?
To inform ourselves before judging matters, and especially before judging people, is not a bad idea, particuarly in the light of Jesus' strong condemnation of those who judge others unjustly. Remembers? As we judge, so we shall we judged - so better judge righteously.
"And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
1) Pietro-pietra is a nice wordplay but it works in Italian, not in English or other languages... 2) Upon THIS rock, not YOUR (Peter's) rock. If grammar is worth something, there is some really forced interpretation here. It is a grammatical error, even before being a theological one, since Christ is the Rock of salvation, the chief cornerstone, not Peter or any other mortal man. Read the verses in context, as we should always do. What does 'this' refer to, verily?
You were wrong, Sing, sorry. Key to understanding the passage is figuring out what the final "it" refers to: the church or the rock. Does the passage mean "the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church," or does the passage mean "the gates of hell shall not prevail against this rock?" If it refers to the "rock," then one must determine what "the rock" refers to.
Can a man be the rock of the Church? The rock/rock parallelism could even be correct, but in my dictionary 'this' and 'your' are not the same thing: so, Christ was not really speaking about Peter, but about something else. This verse refers to the only true, unmovable rock that exists--revelation from God. That is the rock upon which any Church must be built, and it is evidenced by the verses just before this one. Study verses in context is fundamental, isn't it?
It is not just revelation, however, that is key, but the revelation of Christ by God the Father.
The image of a rock is found throughout scripture, and bears directly on Jesus' remark to Peter: Eph. 2:13-22. Thus, Christ is the rock, as are those who receive revelation of Christ (such as the apostles and prophets) and His mission as part of their calling. Paul cautioned the Corinthian saints against presuming they could build on anyone or thing besides Christ: 1 Cor. 3:9-23.
Jesus' teaching about the rock is not a reference to any individual church or group of believers, since even well-intentioned mortals must fail. Christ is the only sure foundation upon which a church can be built, and the knowledge of Christ must come as it always has, as it came to Peter—by direct revelation from the Father. Christ's Church will then be built upon those who have such revelation of Christ, including prophets and apostles.
It says ταύτῃ (this), not ὑμέτερος (your). What part of this, grammar or theology, don't you understand, Singularity1701? What about the 'fruits' spoken of by Christ? Where are cardinals, popes, celibacy, idolatry etc. in the Bible?
ταύτῃ (this) is a demonstrative pronoun (dative case, singular, feminine) which grammatically corresponds with the feminine "petra". When the dative case is used in application to a person it indicates one who is affected by the action of verb, in this case, Peter. Sorry, but the Greek supports the Catholic position.
You can turn it as you want with grammar somersaults, but to say 'This rock' isn't equivalent to 'Your rock'. When you refer to a specific person you do not use 'This', but 'Your/Yours', isn't it? If Jesus' wanted to refer to Peter as the rock, which, btw, is even theologically inconsistent with Bible teachings about the true 'Rock', He would have said 'Upon your rock', i.e. 'upon you, who are a rock', I will build my Church... Sorry, but even history and doctrine do not support the RC position.
What about the 'fruits' spoken of by Christ? Where are cardinals, popes, celibacy, idolatry etc. in the Bible?
__________
"...and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven (καὶ ὃ ἐὰν δήσῃς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,): and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Matthew 16: por.19
I seems that Peter was given the authority declare in Jesus' name and that such declarations would be recognized by God.
You know we agree on that, considering the importance we place on prophets and 'heads' or presidents of the Church. We just do not accept and inconsistent claim over the pope's direct succession to Peter, on a grammatical, historical and theological basis we have already briefly discussed. Besides, Peter died before John - logically, the pope should claim Johannine succession... Besides, the bishop was not to be head of the general Church in Christ's times, not even Rome's Bishop.
And one more thing, wehr. Did Jesus give the keys to the kingdom to himself? No? The passing on of keys is a very significant gesture in ancient times...it is a sign of royalty.
And one more thing, Sing. Did Jesus give the keys of the kingdom to Himself? No, and I didn't say that. He gave them to Peter, but Peter is not the rock upon which the Church is built, as we have shown with grammar and theology alike. But Peter was not the last apostle to die, isn't it? What about John? Did Peter give the keys to someone who was not an apostle? It cannot be, according to the organization of the Church set forth by Christ in the Bible. So? And what about the keys in LDS theology?
Yes, know your history. Study the purposes of God for every group of the Human Race. Jesuschrist is the center point of the Church of Jesuschrist of latter day Saints. The more oppossition I hear about the prophets of God; the more conviced I am in the truthfulness of the church. Not even facing death, they denied their beliefs. Praised be the name of the Lord Jesuschrist forever!!!!

@maddingo12 "Jesus had blue eyes, blond hair and white skin........ RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT. "
To me, this is the central problematic aspect of prophet Brigham Young's "white and delightsome"
argument: Jesus and his disciples were not white. The Jews were not white. Basically everyone
in the Bible were not white. I am not certain how that unavoidable truism was so avoided by the
LDS faithful at the time of its reveling to them. LDS still believe in BY's "mark of Cane" non-sense.

Yet despite a desire to believe, it's not always easy, she said, referencing the Bible story in Mark, where a father brings his ill son to the Savior and asks that he be healed, then tearfully pleads, "Lord, I believe, help thou my unbelief."

Motivated by a healthy distrust of the outside world and packing little more than pluck, they settled the Salt Lake Valley with an eye toward self-sufficiency.
That meant taming the desert by growing food, conserving water, centralizing services and living wisely off the land.

On the other hand, the orbital alignment is close enough to produce an interesting calendrical alignment.
Mormonism is from the Deceiver.
dugw15 2 years ago
In what way does the Book of Mormon look close enough, as you say, to Christianity to deceive people? Could you expound on that? To what chapters and verses are you referring ? The Book of Mormon contains Christ's gospel. It is true. I know it is true. I asked God and He told me that it is. That is all we ask others to do, not to blindly believe what Joseph Smith said, but to have faith in Christ and ask if it's true. God will answer. He promised ask and ye shall receive but let him ask in faith
armyofsheep 2 years ago
I was not refering to the Book of Mormon. I was refering to Satan's angel that brought the tablets (looked like a messenger from God) and the practice and teaching of Mormonism look simlar to Christianity. Mormonism looks to nonMormons very much like Christianity. They both proclaim Jesus as Lord. They both claim to believe the Bible. But the Bible is clear that any new or different message is not of God. Anyone who believes that the Bible is God's Word, could not also accept the Book of Mormon.
dugw15 2 years ago
It's also clear that a man who speaks of something that cannot come true isn't a prophet of God, which fully applies to Joseph Smith.
That said, there was no angel because Smith fabricated the story, just like that of the Furst Vision, embellishing it more and more until it was suitably impressive.
moparmonster1965 2 years ago
As for asking God whether or not the Book of Mormon is His Word, that's very similar to NeoOrthodoxy, a very dangerous idea. NeoOrthodoxy is the idea that the Holy Spirit speaks God's word to people when they read the Bible, so everyone's interpretation is correct because it comes from the HS. That is obviously impossible though. Contradicting interps can't be true.
Likewise, I could ask God about the Book of Mormon and get a different answer, and as long as it's from God, we're both right?
dugw15 2 years ago
I understand your viewpoint. But there is so much confusion on what the Bible means. Every sect of Christianity interprets the Bible so differently. It seems you believe there is only one truth, contradicting interps cant be true, right? That is why we believe God has sent the BoM & prophets as additional witnesses of Christ's gospel, not something new, it's the same gospel that has been taught since Adam. The difference is the location. it may be a dangerous idea, but God does answer prayer.

Wehrheim04 2 years ago
I wonder if a prophet could do that.
__________
Speaking of prophets...
The main biblical rule for ascertaining a true prophet from a false one is that the prophet's teaching must agree with known revelation, that is, with what was already handed down by God as absolutely essential for belief.
Reference: Deuteronomy 13:1-5 and II Timothy 4:3-5
Singularity1701 2 years ago
Jesus was very careful to abide by this rule. He assured His listeners (Matthew 5:17) that His mission on earth was not to destroy the basic truths of the Jewish religion, for example, the existence of a one, true immaterial God, not made of flesh and bones like man.
Even Paul to the Galatians (1:7-9) warns his new Christian converts not to accept another gospel opposed to what he preached even if an angel from heaven were to preach it.
Singularity1701 2 years ago
Now Joseph Smith taught doctrines which Jesus and Paul did not teach as part of true, Old Testament belief as well as true Christianity: the doctrine of many gods made up of flesh and bone, polygamy, and the pre-existence of souls. How then, could Joseph have been a true prophet from God since he violated this fundamental requisite for a genuine prophet?
Singularity1701 2 years ago
Joseph also made some predictions about the future. In 1835 he predicted that in his own lifetime there would be a great gathering in Western Missouri of all the Mormon faithful before a new, huge Temple which was to be built for the event. Such a happening never came to pass.
Reference: Doctrine & Covenants Sec. 84:1-6
In 1835 Joseph prophesied the coming of the Lord in 1891 to end the kingdom of earth. This never occurred either.
Reference: History of the Church Vol. 2, p.182
Singularity1701 2 years ago
To the sincere inquirer into Mormonism such predictions and their non-fulfillment is a serious difficulty. Joseph claimed the predictions came from God and he prefaced the information with such phrases as "Thus sayeth the Lord, " "The word of the Lord is..."
See: Deuteronomy 18:22
Singularity1701 2 years ago
Finally, it is difficult to accept the Mormon belief that Joseph was a true prophet of God and presumably the last to be heard from, when for the true Christian it is very clearly stated in the New Testament that Jesus Christ is the last of a long line of prophets from God.
"God who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son whom he hath appointed heir of all things." (Epistle to the Hebrews 1:1)

Jesus was not a white man, even though being "white and delightsome" is a mormon virtue.
Singularity1701 2 years ago
1) Mormons are not the only one depicting Jesus as a white man. 2) I do not need to remind you the many movies where Jesus is represented by a white actor. 3) Being white and delightsome is not a Mormon virtue, since many LDS are black, yellow, brown or whatever color you like. 4) False facts and lies, as well as distortions, are not Christian virtues. 5) Respect and maturity are a must for serious and rational discussions.

You are wonderful at "red herring" arguments, aren't you.

Wehrheim04 2 years ago

Singularity1701 2 years ago

SenatusPopulesQueRom 3 years ago

Wehrheim04 2 years ago
You were right, SPQR, thanks.
"κἀγὼ δέ σοι λέγω ὅτι σὺ εἶ Πέτρος, καὶ ἐπὶ ταύτῃ τῇ πέτρᾳ οἰκοδομήσω μου τὴν ἐκκλησίαν, καὶ πύλαι ᾅδου οὐ κατισχύσουσιν αὐτῆς." (Matthew 16:18)
Πέτρος = "rock"
πέτρᾳ = "rock
What part of this don't you understand, wehrheim04?
Singularity1701 2 years ago
You were wrong, Sing, sorry. Key to understanding the passage is figuring out what the final "it" refers to: the church or the rock. Does the passage mean "the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church," or does the passage mean "the gates of hell shall not prevail against this rock?" If it refers to the "rock," then one must determine what "the rock" refers to.
Wehrheim04 2 years ago
Can a man be the rock of the Church? The rock/rock parallelism could even be correct, but in my dictionary 'this' and 'your' are not the same thing: so, Christ was not really speaking about Peter, but about something else. This verse refers to the only true, unmovable rock that exists--revelation from God. That is the rock upon which any Church must be built, and it is evidenced by the verses just before this one. Study verses in context is fundamental, isn't it?
Wehrheim04 2 years ago
It is not just revelation, however, that is key, but the revelation of Christ by God the Father.
The image of a rock is found throughout scripture, and bears directly on Jesus' remark to Peter: Eph. 2:13-22. Thus, Christ is the rock, as are those who receive revelation of Christ (such as the apostles and prophets) and His mission as part of their calling. Paul cautioned the Corinthian saints against presuming they could build on anyone or thing besides Christ: 1 Cor. 3:9-23.
Wehrheim04 2 years ago

Wehrheim04 2 years ago
ταύτῃ (this) is a demonstrative pronoun (dative case, singular, feminine) which grammatically corresponds with the feminine "petra". When the dative case is used in application to a person it indicates one who is affected by the action of verb, in this case, Peter. Sorry, but the Greek supports the Catholic position.
Singularity1701 2 years ago
You can turn it as you want with grammar somersaults, but to say 'This rock' isn't equivalent to 'Your rock'. When you refer to a specific person you do not use 'This', but 'Your/Yours', isn't it? If Jesus' wanted to refer to Peter as the rock, which, btw, is even theologically inconsistent with Bible teachings about the true 'Rock', He would have said 'Upon your rock', i.e. 'upon you, who are a rock', I will build my Church... Sorry, but even history and doctrine do not support the RC position.

The possesive pronoun ὑμέτερος, second person plural, doesn't make any sense, either. Even in the English it doesn't sound right. Upon "your rock?"

What about the 'fruits' spoken of by Christ? Where are cardinals, popes, celibacy, idolatry etc. in the Bible?

"...and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven (καὶ ὃ ἐὰν δήσῃς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,): and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Matthew 16: por.19
I seems that Peter was given the authority declare in Jesus' name and that such declarations would be recognized by God.
Singularity1701 2 years ago

Singularity1701 2 years ago
And one more thing, Sing. Did Jesus give the keys of the kingdom to Himself? No, and I didn't say that. He gave them to Peter, but Peter is not the rock upon which the Church is built, as we have shown with grammar and theology alike. But Peter was not the last apostle to die, isn't it? What about John? Did Peter give the keys to someone who was not an apostle? It cannot be, according to the organization of the Church set forth by Christ in the Bible. So? And what about the keys in LDS theology?

Are purpose not to make ppl mad, i honestly am so sorry for everyone who goes off of what other ppl say.. out side sources, even this.
im not the poster but im sure his reasoning for this video was show the definition of Christianity.that the LDS members are christian.
Prophets have been mocked and persecuted by those blinded by the devil.
read for yourselves to know of the truthfulness of the prophets words, with a mindset of this could be true. it could change your life for eternity.
jesshaertling08 3 years ago
Yes, know your history. Study the purposes of God for every group of the Human Race. Jesuschrist is the center point of the Church of Jesuschrist of latter day Saints. The more oppossition I hear about the prophets of God; the more conviced I am in the truthfulness of the church. Not even facing death, they denied their beliefs. Praised be the name of the Lord Jesuschrist forever!!!!
