1. Did you ever try the Bodycraft Jones Smith machine? If so any comments on this vs the Bodycraft Jones? I've read this one is smoother.
2. How hard was the assembly? Can 2 people carry everything down to the basement and assemble it?
3. The 2 weight racks seem kinda close to each other do you ever bang the bar between them or is there plenty of room between them to do any free motion exercies? (The Bodycraft crack moves with the bar)
Overall I felt they were both great machines, but there were a couple major reasons why I chose the Hoist. The #1 reason was the fact that the Hoist can still act as a real free weight rack, and you can use any barbell wanted to. You can't do that on the Jones since the whole rack moves with the built-in bar. My #2 reason was what you had mentioned. The bar movement just felt better and more smooth.
As for the assembly, I have no opinion on that since I paid extra for delivery and installation. Two guys carried it up my stairs and installed it within 45 minutes or so, and it seemed like they had no trouble all. About the racks, i feel that they aren't too close together and I have plenty of room to do bench presses, rows, squats, etc without banging the bar into anything. You get used to the dimensions of the rack real quick, and after a couple workouts you dont think about it anymore.
Hey man, also thinking of buying this. Found a good deal on a floor unit and 2ndwind. Things still going good after 6 months? Do you think the chinup bar is useable with 9ft ceilings?
I've had it for a little over a year now and still love it. It's the best piece of equipment I own. The pull up bar is definitely usable with 9ft ceilings. Just make sure there isn't a light or ceiling fan above it.
hey dude. im looking at buying this in the ensemble 3. is there anything you dont like or anything that you have found to be not so good with the system?
I really haven't found anything bad about it yet. It's been perfect so far. The pulleys are extremely smooth. Just make sure you have adequate space for it, and that you don't have a ceiling fan above the area where you plan to put it. With 8ft ceilings, it comes within inches of the ceiling. Also, make sure you get the HF-4165 because it's a much better bench than the PTS-164.
Ok thanks man. yeah i have a fan in my gym but if i decide to get the hoist ill remove it. The room has split aircon anyway so no big deal. We do have 8ft ceilings but i was going to have it modifies slightly to accommodate the chin up bar on the ensmble 3. hope it works out. :)
One thing I forgot to mention is the optional bench attachments. The preacher curl attachment is ok, but the leg curl/extension attachment isn't that great and I wouldn't recommend it. When doing leg curls, there's nothing to stop you from going too far and having the weights land on your butt. I don't like having that in the back of my mind as i'm trying to concentrate on my reps.
@Steedlaw The bar is supposed to be 45lb but I've never tried to weigh it though. It might have felt a bit lighter for you because you don't have to balance it
@ASFx2600 Nice. It is a very nice machine. great for guys like me who work out solo in the basement and don't have a spotter. I am surely getting one. Thanks for posting this.
WoW! Brandon would love to try this :)

@ASFx2600 Do you know how heavy the bar is? I played around with my friend's PTS and the bar felt a little lighter than a typical 45 lbs or so.
