2 just seems to be the most balanced. (which is better IMO)

3 is good but there is just far too much promotion of creatures. I don't see the point of of promoting all the crappy creatures in your castle. And it annoys me that there is 7 spots in your army... However, the skills of the heroes and many different things more than counter those complaints.

1st is my fav. though. It's the 1st one I played which got me on HoMM. I feel 2 or 3 can't replace the feeling I get from HoMM1.

Four was pretty terrible, but I thought five was superior to the others if only because the AI was so much more intelligent. My favorite, though is II the music was so beautiful and the game board style graphics appealed to me.

@archcorenth homm4 grew on me above all the other because of the hero development. I think it made the game much more interesting and being able to have troops march and fight in the lands without a hero was very helpful. I also love the class development system in 4; much better than the other games. I do love them all though and yes, the music in 2 was quite amazing. I still can't find a copy of the warlock castle opera music that matches the copy of the homm2 game I played, oddly enough.

@xycadium perhaps 4 appeals more to RPG fans then. The computer was never able to pose anything resembling a challenge on any map. Also I thought the graphics had no overall theme. As though a different person illustrated each object with no thought as to how they all would have to go together in the end. But four probably had the best music after two and I played a lot of it just for that. The plots were also interesting and well-written though very poorly implemented into the maps.

@xycadium the music is different for the 2 base game and it with the expansion or in the gold version. I prefer the exp/gold music because it's what I first played it with.

Man, what are they waiting to port HoMM for the DS, or even the PSP :(

I've had both since they came out and I've yet to see a classic strategy game being decently ported. Settlers for the DS was awful, same for Theme Park and Sim City.

I have Dosbox running fine and can launch 9/10 titles I try. However HOMM just won't launch. Its looking for a cd drive? Any hints? Thanks.

I got a hint for you. Try using the imgmount command, and mounting an .iso image that includes the HoMM files.

Don't know if it will work, but it should.

Mount it as drive d: (obviously)
