Not a bad driver & certainly not a bad truck... Only apply minimal speed required to get up the hill. Too much speed = damage to the vehicle. It might take a few tries to get it right and make it all the way up, that's the way to do it !
@apharot He shifted into 4WD after he lost his momentum. You can see the driver throw the shift lever and hear the transfer case shift. My point is that this should have been done before attempting the hill, not after the vehicle is already dug in, fighting gravity and a lack of traction.
All chassis and suspension settings should be set before tackling an obstacle, not in the middle of it.
@MegaHyperX He dug up the sand, making the second attempt more difficult. He didn't air down his tires for added traction, and I don't think the first generation XTerra had a locking diff.
That sand shouldn't pose much of a challenge for an XTerra with good tires. I think he was too timid in his approach and gave it too much gas once he was on the dune.
@satinISsexy What? Are you saying the Xterra shouldn't be taken off-road?

Hint: Air down the tires, put it in 4WD and the proper gear before you hit the obstacle, and get some good tires.
In this case, 4-High, get some speed, stay out of the ruts and apply power smoothly.

@BlindIo42 He was in 4wd, if not, then those front tires shouldn't have been spinning.
