Love this song - and of course this is one of the easiest Urdu words to learn...makes me want to watch the movie (Ishq) magical video tiad! A much talented group reaching a new generation...noting Azam and Loga born in Iran - he must've been from the Turkish part, he certainly looks Turkish to me...this group does much to bring cultures together - bless them for their efforts and bless you tiad for bringing
Oh my god I never said it's root was in Sanskrit for goodness sake, I was just saying that it's very old and is known in VERY MANY OTHER LANGUAGES. Jesus. I could care less where it originated from, just saying it goes all over that entire area of the world and has been spread out does not mean I stated it was originated from ONLY Sanskrit. Wow.
Magnificent, Moving, Lyrical, Very Captivating, Beauty & Majesty Of Tere ISHQ Mein Humne Kya Kiya Na Dekha...Just Soaring Beyond Space & Time. My Eyes Just Caught This Beautiful Song By SURPRISE & Caught My Breath In A Heartbeat. Thanks For Posting Tiad.
Means the word 'ishq' only 'love' or does it also have another meaning... Cause the word for love is also popular in Turkish as 'aşk' but 'ışık'/ishq means 'light'...
@Zerabun if it means light why my hindi teacher says that ishq इश्क़ means love? because he's from india and because he doesn't know his language? maybe it means light in turkish but the word is hindi/urdu and it means love without lust.
@rofrno even the title says : Ishq (Love and the Veil) that means that it is a love without desires. a love with something that is taboo, something untouchable.
@rofrno Exaclty, Ishq in Hindi/Urdu means LOVE. It may mean something different in Other languages, but considering that this song is in Hindi/Urdu it would be safe to assume that Ishq means LOVE in this context. I would know because my Husband speaks Urdu and I am learning it.
@MrsKhan2010 In Hindi/Urdu "ishq" means love, but it is a different kind of love. It is a love without a desire. For the other kind of love there are other words.
@MrsKhan2010 Işq is an Arabic world that all islamic countries uses. in Turkey we use as "Aşk/Ashk" . Iranians uses as "Eshgh" . Arabs uses Işq or eşk. The lenguists says this words a loan from Sumerian language.
@BalanKhan It's also a very ancient Sanskrit word, but considering that there has been, historically, a lot of cultural exchange as well as language exchange between South East Asia all the way to East Europe, it is easy to claim a certain word to a specific region. The silk road aided a lot in the spreading of languages and other cultural influences, so each region has it's way of saying this and no one can say where it originated from because too many cultures use it and clain it as theirs.
@MrsKhan2010 a lot etymogical dictionaries in Turkey says this word belong to Arabic. in Aramaic language this word's root is #ˁsḳ ... ˁişḳ عشق [#ˁşḳ] is in Arabic and a lot words derived from this root as ma'şuk, 'aşk, 'aşık, ta'aşşuk, etc. Arab and Persian peoples meets a long time ago and maybe Persian peoples influenced and took this word to their own language. We Turks as a lot countries and peoples (as Turkmen, Ozbek, Oghuz, Afshars, Azherbaijanis, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz etc.) use this word.
@BalanKhan I am not discrediting what you have to say, but the Indian peoples are just as ancient as the Turks if not more so, I have no doubt of what you are saying, but have a little bit of an open mind and realize that just because you have it in your books an culture for a long time it doesn't mean that it solely belongs to your culture, and considering that the singer of this song grew up in India, I would assume she got the word from there. (I'm a muslim so I know a lot about arabic lang.)
@MrsKhan2010 I connote, this word's root can't be sanskrit language. because this word occurs in Arabic language, and a lot etymological dictionaries says that this word is Arabic/Aramaic/Semitic word. Not Arianic nor Turkic/Altaic word.
@Zerabun the origin of 'ishq' is from arabic, where it means the higher form of love without lust that rofrno referred to. this ishq means the same (love) in hindi/urdu but becomes 'ask' in turkish
I have Niyaz first CD and it's great. I think I'll get the one with this song on it too. Azam Ali's voice is beautiful, and the bacground music is hypnotizing.
@Karanis Hi Karanis. A few days ago I bought Nine Heavens, which are the next double st of Niyaz after their first one. You are right with your recommendation, I enjoy it very much!

@tiad I actually read the info.
That person said "turkish" and i thought that the person wanted to say that the song is in turkish.
I don't know what you thought I said, but your reply seems off-topic with what I said.
