  • I remember back in 94 I was playing SS at the arcades and I had over 55 victories straight and some dude defeated me and everyone started applauding him for beating me. I never understood that. O_o BTW, SS is my favorite game eva!

  • thank you for your useful review!! :)

  • 00:27 -> Wait a second...Is that man in the back Joe Vargas from Angry Joe Show?

  • i had this game on SNES

  • Hatori Honzo... there's another thing that name's known from, Kill Bill had a Hatori Honzo who crafted legendary swords. It's probably not historically accurate, but it's just another little tidbit of interesting info.

  • @thatrandombloak I don't mean you no offense but, it's HATORI HANZO.. and he was actually based on a real real warlord/lord. Not a blacksmith. There was a lot of speculations on whether he was a ninja... but we will never know. =)

  • @LoyalNODZealot its hattori hanzo and he was the leader of the iga ninja clan under service of ieyasu tokugawa and that we do know :/

  • hey hey hey did i hear part of the AVGN theme song at the begining!

  • @IpwnNoobs4TW yes. at the same time they it wrote avgn special guess...

  • im pretty sure most people use ukyp.

  • nice u did a a video with hvgn.... thats awesome

  • samuri showdown was awsome.

  • Okey dokey, as I've never heard of this game before, I'm watching the original here as you recommended :o) yes, I love that camera system on this :o)

  • Such a great review. Lots of good information in here that you would think is common knowledge, but has actually been lost over time. Pay attention, kids!

  • RETRIBUTION!!

Hope you get some answers man

  • Nakunoru??? WTF???

  • I loved this game I was addicted to SS.

  • Wow...this was a really entertaining, informative, well put together review.

My copy of SNK Arcade Classics Vol. I arrived in the mail this morning...I'd already heard that S-Showdown had an impressive rep among old school beat 'em up fans, but after seeing this, I'm especially psyched to check it out!

Thank you, Swag...I'll be back to watch some more of your reviews :)

PS - An arcade machine in your garage? Dude, you rock!

  • excellent review!!

  • Toys r us with out a doubt carried Neo Geo system, and games! I went to a toy r us in salinas ca, when i was a kid, maybe six or sevin times a year and I remember seeing those huge ass boxes and price tags...

  • Samurai Shodown is good, but the one people should really check out is part 2. SSII plays similarly to the first game but is better in every way, from the roster, to the sound and graphics and balance.

  • Nice review guys!

  • Interesting fact both Earthquake and Gladford are Spanish/Mexican citizens not US citizens because their bio state they were born in territories own by Spain before Mexico gain independence and the US took over the territories from Mexico. ALSO they were trained by Hanzo's Wife to become ninjas.

  • already have it,but nothing beats playing the original games like they were meant to.

  • I only have 1 and 2 on my Neo Geo AES,stil need get 3 and 4...

    Great co op review! \m/

  • Just get samurai showdown anthology fer ps2, they got like 7 of them in one cd!

  • This game is pretty cool though I have to be honest that I suck at the SNK fighters. Though I have fun playing this. Nice review, SWAG and HVGN!

  • i use hanzo

  • Samurai Showdown is awesome, the 5th one is incredible too.

  • I can't believe you guys didn't talk about the feature of dropping your weapons during battle.

  • There is an 11 minute cap on videos for non-partners, I had to cut a lot of things for time.

  • Ahh, I see :)

  • i wish that ryu hayabusa appears in this gamee jeje

  • get capcom vs snk 2: Mark of the millenium

  • NOTE TO ALL SNK FANS IF YOU OWN A PSP SYSTEM YOU CAN BUY A SNK ANTHOLOGY GAME WHICH HAS GAMES LIKE METAL SLUG AND SAMURI SHOWDOWN FOR ONLY 10 DOLARS AT MOST STORES (you may have to special order)

  • awseome review for an awseome game

    SUBSCRIBED !

  • Why are females in fighting games so hot?

  • Why not?

  • Yeah like Ivy from Soul Edge! Hwrrrrraaaoh!

  • @JackieFuckingChan Because unlike the men, whose primary purpose is to do things, female characters are required by law not to do things, but to look sexy while doing them. It sucks.

  • @JackieFuckingChan because they wanna get the men hard to get their advantage.

  • This is a very fun game. Samurai Shodown is very fun fighting game. Haohmaru is the best.

  • Serious killer review.

    I wish I had a SS2 Arcade.

    Oh well there's still anthology's.

  • Get a neo geo cabinet and then put posters on it. Your friends at university will want to play and you can make TONS of money as well as have your own awesome cabinet!

  • I actually do own one of the red NeoGeo coin-op cabinets too. I used to have it in a hobby store with Metal Slug in it but it's in the garage now.

  • do you using? I'll buy it off you for $1500

  • You don't have $1500.

  • I know...

  • I've got one too and I wouldn't get rid of it for anything.

  • I agree with you, this game is very difficult, and the final boss is NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE!

  • awsome, I love it when there's to people in a review, sort of like siskel and ebert, it's a fair mix of peoples opinions, great job, you should do double reviews more often.

  • They have it on xbox 360 live arcade too. Btw i didnt mean that ur voice trailed off imean it changed tone

  • You two both have good speaking voices, but i noticed taht when you were describing the characters (Gen-non) that your voice seemed to trail off. LOL just watnted to give some constructive critisism, sorry, nothing really bad. Good review thou

  • Nice review. This game is hard.

I even own a Japanese PS1 rpg game of Samurai Spirits. It's awesome how they fit the characters in this genre.

  • Toys r us did carry the neo geo! I remember seeing it behind the glass case when I was a youngin...

  • nakonoru ???? nakoruru at 3:45 lol

  • Fun game online

  • Haha The other reviewer sounds like seth green!

    Great review! ^_^

  • Thumbs up! Became a big fan of your channel.

  • Awesome, thanks so much!

  • Brutal diffulculty is right. That's why I hate games like this because if you have no siblings or friends, hard fighting games aren't fun, they're frustrating.

  • Is anthology coming out for the ps2 also?

  • good video.

I liked how you studied the history of the characters of this game.

  • They should make a 3-d one, that'd be sweet

  • They actually did make one, and they're working on another right now.

  • nice

  • FUCKING EPIC !!!!!!! #5 STARS !

  • Very true what he said throughout his review.

  • i buy it the collection in march 7 games for 15 bucks! i already got the first one on snk classics vol 1

  • yes it works

  • Awesome team-up guys!

  • Im gonna go buy it on vc right now

  • Nice review, I don't much care for HVGN though.

  • Armake you dont care much for anyone

    you hate

    AVGN

    HVGN

    Yourself(cant blame you)

    Anyway good review

  • I don't hate HVGN, just don't care for him too much.

  • BTW, SWAG doesn't like AVGN fanboys who call the IG things he isn't such as yourself, just a little FYI.

  • What the hell are you talking about i didn't say i hated Irate i said armake

  • And don't criticize people if your grammar sucks.

  • Okay guys, break it up. Don't make me have to put each of you in your own separate corner.

  • Okay, I'm scared of the corner.

    Anyways sorry about that.

  • ROFL--PWND!

  • Wow SWAG, these co-op reviews do are great and a lot of fun. Brings fans of different reviewers closser to each other and help them experience other styles too, really great!

Loved this one, even though it's not my kind of game it was a great review! Hope to see more co-ops!

  • its not working

  • VICTOLY!

  • Very awesome! Its an awesome game with 2 awesome reviewers^^ Nice work guys

  • Great review Swag.

  • Not a bad review guys you cover most at what ss is.Some times i'll go back and play it for nostalgia sake, but i prefer ss2 more.Since i feel samurai shodown 2 is more of a refined fighter.

  • Samurai Shodown 2 is indeed a great game too and I plan to review it later, probably after the SS Anthology is out.

  • Cool when you do and i've notice that the, SS Anthology is out now.Now how about that SS2 review ~_^

  • Great dual-review.

  • The real HVGN. Your CO friend failed to take the same abreviation. Anyway, that was a nice review. I played samurai showdown when i was 6 years old with my big brother.

  • excellent co-review

  • Nice co-op review! We need more of that!

  • Not bad Swag.

  • Thanks, dude.

  • A few errors/omissions: The Neo Geo home system and games were initially carried by at least one major retailer, Software Etc. It was odd to not even mention III, IV, V and V Special which were all also released on MVS and home cartridge systems (and are also compatible). The zoom function featured in here was first pioneered in Art of Fighting, though it was much jerkier and disorienting in its 1st use in that game. Overall its a good review, though --thanks for doing it!

  • Jubei isn't a Ronin either Ukyo has tuberculosis

  • The omissions were simply due to the time constraints. YouTube gives s maximum of 11 minutes for videos for non-partners (they turned me down twice), so I already had to cut stuff out for this review, including a bit I had about Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury. Also Software Etc. isn't a major retailer; Target, Wal-Mart, Circuit City and Toys R Us are major retailers. Software Etc., like EB games, is considered a specialty store.

  • Good to see recognition for the game EGM called the game of the year when it came out --I can't blame them, the first time I saw the opening in arcades that year I was shocked --mostly because I suddenly realized the Neo Geo I'd bought still had life in it.

  • the first time i ever find out abou SamuraiShowdown was in mame32 with SS4. dunno bout you but i liked it far more than any street fighter game(well, i never liked street fighter actualy)

  • For some weird reason, I have a funny feeling we will hear you do a review of a King of Fighters game.

  • the best co-op review

  • hatori hanzo FTW

  • avgn's theme at the beginning? wtf?

  • How come you didn't ask Derek to be in your month of reviews special?

  • Good lord, I had enough work to do that month without adding a sixth guest reviewer. Plus, I love Samurai Shodown a lot so I wanted to make absolutely certain that I would give the review more time to make sure I did it right.

  • Aw, i'm hurt by that comment. :(

  • I think you misunderstood me, at that point I hadn't even approached him about doing the review yet so it's not like I was, "saving it for later." I totally want to review Samurai Shodown II as well; maybe the fans would want to see another SWAG/Guru Larry review?

  • Lol, I'm just kiddin' with ya dude!

Yeah I wouldn't mind doing another someday, just get this "other" project for you out the way first!!!

  • I was just thinking ''Yeah it's great, but I like SamSho II better.'' and then you come up with a dedicated SamSho II cab!

Most people like IV best but I like the slower gameplay of II better.

    Nice review guys!

  • ok this is just epic swag and HVGN i can finally die happy.

  • Cool co-op review, Samurai Shodown is still one of my favourite fighting games of all time.

  • great review! Swag needs help in the Microphone department

  • I know, I actually did buy some new equipment, I just need to get it set up. Hopefully I'll have my new voice-recording system all ready to go by my next review.

  • Hey Swag, did you record your theme song? If so, did you use a Shure SM57 or SM58 mic for guitars/vocals? I used to use those for recording speech occasionally, they sound great.

  • I recorded it with the drummer from my band. I can't remember what kind of mics we used, I'll have to get back to you on that.

  • i much rather HVGN than IRATE gamer! HVGN is a REAL gamer with much more talent an a very UNANNOYING voice unlike Irate! Great review!

  • OMG IT'S HVGN! Damn swag, it's like you just look on my subscribed to list and guest em.

  • Great Review buddy!

  • Pretty cool review for a pretty cool game. Never played it myself though, was too busy playing Street Fighter & Killer Instinct but it definitely looks like something I would enjoy, seeing how I'm a Soul Calibur fan. ^_^

  • awesome review man I love your co-ops

  • Thanks, you can bet there will be more.

  • How do you co-op with so many cool and famous reviewers? Irate Gamer, KWING, Happy VG Nerd and the list goes on and on.

  • ah yes, this game is pure brilliance, if this game was a human and an actor, it deserves an oscar.

  • awesome review i think this is a more honest way to review a game talk about its good and bad parts equally it reminds me of my reviews in a way

  • awesome 2009!!

  • Might just pick the anthology on Wii, is that just two games?

  • No, I think it's like 7!

  • LOL you rock!

  • Great Review

  • NICE!

  • Great video. I love when you have guest reviewers in the video.
