  • TERRIFIC SONG! THANX

  • @fatusland lol

  • Fantastic stuff. Thanks so much for this. It was always my favourite track on the album yet was never released as a single - at least not here in the UK. Raw emotion, true life story and very powerful. I haven't heard this in over 10 years yet I remembered all the lyrics. I guess it made an impression on me!

  • Brings back a lot of very old memories!

It must have been 1989, mum and dad had split up, and this album was playing on my mums Kenwood stacksystem.. i swear on repeat for about 3 years, which was about the same length of time it took us to get that wood chip wallpaper off the walls!! haha!!.. im now 28... and still loving every line of this song :'0)... Phil Collins you total legend!

  • uffffffffff

    uuufffffffffffffffffff.....................

  • by the time a man truly understands (and expresses) his own feelings, his ex is long gone....great honest love song with no icing but raw emotion

  • :-)

  • Beautiful song, thought it might save my marriage.............. In fairness to her, stopping drinking might have been a better option! 15 years later and mostly sober..... still a beautiful song! If only? x

  • fantastic ...

  • How many of us can relate to this song and have been through the scenario Phil's singing about? Yeah...a lot! Love this song! Janie

  • it is a great song this and from a great album of its time :)

  • Fabulous Song !

  • I saw this tour while when it stopped to the Warner Theatre in D.C.. There isn't a bad seat there. My friend got sick and we ended up at George Washington hospital for four hours. Then we drove back to Towson Md and crashed. AHHHHH the memories

  • Now this is a man who gave most if not all of his life to music,if you get the time to listen to his music new and old you will know just what I mean,,,from brand x to genesis,,,this chap is one of the best ever

  • ohh, Todays music should try be like Phil. It's the best of all time, to bad the good days of music have changed, to crap.

  • even though im only 14, Phil Colins is the best singer of all time. Lady Gaga can move over. All my freinds have to listen to real music.

  • @cheese5157 Totally Agree!

  • Sad that I can relate... I could do without that reality check.. :/

  • somebody must've done him wrong,,

  • This is a great song! The thing is they didn't begin to play this song on the radio until about two oe three years ago. I heard something that it was never officially released for some reason. But don't quote me on this because I could be wrong about this. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic song once again!

  • @kenpalmer1965 hi ! I must say it's true. I rather listen to oldies goldies :)

  • @kenpalmer1965

yes i remember they started play that song as soon as the ''love song'' compilation came out in 2005. its a great track but still a strange move that they choose that song to promote a new compilation, a song that was clearly overlooked at the time.

  • @kenpalmer1965 Actually, it was released in 1982, but only in the UK (where it was a radio hit), not the US. But it was included on Phil's 'Love Songs, Old And New' CD set in 2005, and was finally made a single in America, and peaked at #5 on the Billboard charts. The wait was worth it!

  • i love it!!

  • The style of music has definitely changed. I could listen to this type of music over and over and just never get sick of it. :)!

  • whooh dont u think there is no soul anymore i mean every song my daughter blast out i hate to keep saying thats an old 1 but every hardcore tune she says mum get a life get over ur self . its so not my prob that ive heard it all before lol .

  • It's not just a good song, his two first albums were recorded meticulously. Play these records the right way; vinyl. Compact discs don't have the warmth and depth.

  • nice song...

  • Love this. Thank you.

  • every word is so exact. reminds me of the most difficult & painful time of mine & my love's life. Im so grateful we made it. so grateful...

  • PHILS FACE VALUE and HELLO I MUST BE GOING cd's are among the best ever recorded - few songs made the charts (and that's a good thing). He wrote most of the songs himself and had no pressure to sell records - just make personal music that he shared with the world. I waited a lifetime for him to make a 3rd cd as good but he never has and never will. PHIL, thank you for these two gems. LOVE YA ALWAYS.

  • @ahfaxthis But Serioulsy.. is equally as good.

  • @Coruscant98 OK, you are right. I have to admit after I posted that comment of mine I was listening to songs on youtube from But Seriously, like right after posting, and thought, now that's also a classic piece of work. You are 100 percent correct. The 80's were so good to phil. I did work at a bank recently and one of phils band members from the tour 2000-2007 was my regular customer. He said "Phil is a good boss". The band member is Gerald Albright, a true talent himself. I miss the 80s.

  • The song that got me and my man back together

  • @TheHotDawger

Good for you babe, i hpe it all works out for you.

  • these early songs were all about the need to get it all out, then after it was about just making music cuz u had to... the urgency to communicate emotionally went away.

  • 'Love that Phil Collins sound and insight and how he expresses himself'...

  • Another Phil classic...

  • I played this for the girl who dumped me way back in the 80's. she wasn't impressed. lol

didn't work for phil or me, and he sang and wrote it. we tried though.

  • Legendary class.

  • Legendary class.

  • Love this song :)

  • Love these flashbacks! True masters of instrumental craft! Not just producers who know ProTools computer programs! Thank you for posting this! 1:50 is my favorite break in the song! Thank you for posting!

  • @Featster74 yeah, I think that way too, that's a real music, not computer gibberish like these days :)

  • Phil makes me come alive>>>>

  • I think this is his best album.

  • Always hated this one when I was younger, but now I think it's one of the best on the album, which is a strong album all the way through.

  • powerful lyrics. touches my heart...

  • Owned this album but somehow missed this song! Great tune

  • People just don't write songs with lyrics like this anymore.

  • @firstmusic00 yeah, today's music haven't got a soul like this.

  • @firstmusic00 - from URGODSGIFT - So true; just powerful lyrics.

  • couldn't relate to this song as a eleven year old,,but sure do now

  • phil collins - as I consider - is one of the few musicians that brought light to the world even during the dark 80's-period of great dellusion and despair...

With so much sensitivity he never failed to bring enough eggs into his work, always earthy in his poetic conclusions and worked together with marvellous musicians throughout his career! This song is truly connected with pain. All the same the musical statement is powerful enough to overcome the depicted misery, claming "I'm right!"

  • PHIL IS SUCH A GREAT POET...

  • I love this song! It's one of my faves from "Hello, I Must Be Going!"

  • Was this the second single release in USA as this was the 4th single released from the album here in the UK

  • so nice...

  • Its painful when someone steal the heart of the person, take it from me, I know.

  • Peak

  • sad, sounds like my life.

  • @stoneguy66 sad but true. my friend :(

  • @too0pathetic you'll be ok!

  • i love this man!

  • thank you for posting this song. I listen to this since I was a kid. I really love it !

  • @inten1111 you're welcome :)

  • great! phil collins songs!

  • Love it.

  • Thanks! I haven't heard this song in years!

  • feel it

  • still hits a few raw nerves but a great song not often played or heard these days but still a great song

  • RPI Mick Baines (horn player on this track). Arranged and conducted by Martyn Ford
