There are multiple videos on YouTube documenting this same problem with police telling people they have no free speech rights when a group "reserves" a public area. Something I've wondered about is whether the "reservation" applies to just the streets or also the adjacent public sidewalks. How much control are the police claiming these groups have over these public areas? Can they prohibit anyone from the area for any reason?
1. dont be rude to the officer, he is just like you or me.
2. you should probably check with your city/county to make sure there is not an ordinance against it infront of that building they are not saying u cant do it in the whole town just a small part of it.
3. you posted this video because it proved what?? you should have checked with your city before posting up at that corner and maybe you wouldnt feel like it was a personal attack...
Although owners of property have the right to limit rights on their property just as you can on yours this property was rented "public property" I would be curious to hear their argument as to why this should be tolerated!( suspension of rights)
Freedom of Speech? GOING> Probable Cause and Civil Liberties? GOING> Being able to assemble, document, or question authority without fear of getting arrested, tased, or something worse? GONE.
The problem is you weren't "permitted" to do this. At the Circleville, Ohio Pumpkin Show - "The Greatest "Free" Show On Earth" they literally use a tall clown on skates with a police 2way radio to look out for and enforce any "non-permitted" actions of free speech. "Hmm, what is this? Anti-war pamphlets - NOT PERMITTED!" We have sacrificed far too much by thinking these enforced comfort zones are for our greater good.
get the fuck out of the art show and stop annoying people. You are proving nothing this is the problem why nobody trying to change the world can be taken seriously... we have here idiots like you trying to disturb the public.
I actually think the sarcasm at the end was brilliant. I bet he realized his folly much more than if you were to explicitly point out that he was violating his oath. Better to just thank him emphatically as he breaks it. Well done.
I think it's wonderful that now you only have freedoms in areas designated by the police, while they enforce only the will of those who paid the state for permits rather than protecting the free exercise of press and expression.
Yes, that policeman was clearly very "witty," you have to be witty to suggest that these free citizens engaging in free press and free expression are not allowed because someone has a permit.
I thought that the right to peaceful protest was enshrined in the American constitution? I thought that Freedom of Speech was part of your Bill of Rights? It irritates me when police misuse or deliberately misrepresent the law to protect capitalists or "the man", but this kid didn't help by trying to smart and talking about copyright laws. The cop was not interested in art piracy, he was interested in public nuisance. Know your rights beffore you protest or you simply look like an idiot.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why is it that every time some liberal arts major strains and struggles to "match wits" with a level headed polite peace officer, crying "free speech" and uhh..."We Obey Copyright Laws"..........he feels it's noteworthy or relevant enough to puke it onto youtube?
@asdf12347109 Damn it! I accidentally liked your comment.
The reason I'm saying this publicly is because I feel terrible for this mistake, and I want to profess to everyone -- even though no one would have known otherwise -- that I do NOT agree with this person who actually believes that coercion and the disregarding of law protects you.
@asdf12347109 It's a public street in the Twin Cities where a public art fair was held, these men were filming and conducting interviews then told by the police that they couldn't interview people in this air because of the festival. Maybe police officers should know the law and take their oath and training more seriously and we wouldn't have to sift through the millions of little injustices that take place and upload them to the worldwide web.
Why did you tell the meat head he was doing a good job? You nailed it right off the bat, "Am I violating any law?" The answer is NO. Permit or not, it remains a public street and the permit holder have to deal with the public. There's no confusion, it's a public street.
Just pay your taxes, shut your mouth, and move along!...... WHAT!!?? ----OH, HELLLLL NO! I'm voting for Ron Paul! We don't roll like that! Respect4Robert.........
0:29 what are you stupid? He just said that you can go down the block and do your shit! And you go on about violating laws.. Fucking greasy hippes stop smoking pot and listening to african herbsman and get what the cop is telling you, You can go down the street so your shit he he doesn't care what you do just do it down the street! You're all fine.
@xxMafia101 Well what else am I supposed to call them? "are we violataing any laws" Fuck that the cop is saying to them nicely that they can just go down the street and the idiot hippy starts all that shit.
@Majoraspirit This corporation, organization or whatever it is obviously asked the police to keep these streets clear from "organized groups." While the officer was polite and showed integrity, it is still in violation of the first amendment.
@cmchris888 How was the cop being an asshole, he understood the hippies he said they can go do their crazy voodoo magic on other streets except the one they were on. He's allowing them to do it somewhere else which probably is 25 feet away you treehugging idiot.
Whoever made this video is an idiot. I could understand the cop perfectly of what he was trying to say. You didn't and kept going on with this rights bullshit when the cop didn't want to be involved or whatever.
@Majoraspirit You must be from China where slaves don't have rights. OUR UNALIENABLE RIGHTS are not bullshit. IF the cop didn't want to be involved he could have left them alone, simple.
@gerrilea1 Sorry I'm bad at explaining things, I didn't mean for him to leave them alone I meant that he wasn't trying to be a complete douche bag. Now in this video he's telling them they can go and do their stuff down the street which isn't too far and not a big problem. And these hippies are making a big deal of it and they don't understand that he's letting them do their voodoo shit ...down the street!
@Majoraspirit Its a public street. People have the right to protest on public property, end of line. The store has no exclusive right to public property. Definition of Public: "open to all persons: a public meeting." from ht t p://dictionary. reference. com/browse/public
You guys have to stop folding! When they say leave, you say no! Arrest me illegally or violate my constitutional rights in any way, this matter will be taken to court.
Magically? So I guess these people need to buy the land from the government to have the right to tell you to leave, instead of just being able to "rent" it for a while? I never understood these type of debates on the streets where permits were obtained.
@epohnopulse Ron Paul would get rid of the parts of the government that keeps streets public, so these kids of situations will actually be a lot worse and way more common if Ron Paul is president.
i dont wanna be on camera everytime i step out of my house either but i have no choice siince the system has cameras everywhere, sorry poo poo that was a lame excuse.if people dont want to be on camera tell them to stay inside

Wow, this guy doesn't even seem to be aware of the rights he is running over. Apathy and anti-
