your attempt at criticism only shows your own ignorance of judo. You both fail. Typical U.S. judo, no wonder this sorry nation has never done better than bronze in the olympics.
@CalvinistChurch I'm sorry you feel this way. I'm actually from Brazil. Instead of attacking me personally, please explain why can't be this considered Kata Otoshi, not as an official technique, but as a known variation, just like Yoko Kata Guruma Otoshi?
@Calvinizur Yes you can, just not on competition..Just because it's removed from competition, it does not mean you can not do it during randory, in brazilian gayjitsu matches
A bit of history; tani otoshi originally was a tech done to break a samuria's back...not the much safer sutemi waza as done now...nonetheless, you can see this tech in the old Koshiki Ko Kata. Look for tori pulling down uke to his side as he kneels on one knee, tori then moves his upright knee into then back out of the intended target area.
@magcharles1 really, since unarmed combat was rare in any war ever(they always had access to some weapon)and they never sparred in classical jj,most techs werent pressure tested, thats why judo whupped the trad styles in contests.I studied a couple of classical styles, hakama and all the other bullshit and not 1 person in the system could fight.
@billysue2 You're qualifing your statement on limited expertise, time spent studing how not to fight? So, asking you to prove the technique useless I think would be educational for whom? Maybe the best answer is, clearly you won't.
@billysue2 True. When I was a yonkyu in Judo, I could walk through every BB in the Aikido dojo I trained at. Needless to say, I quit Aikido, and stuck with Judo.
this situation of the guy pulling me towards him and staying sideways is one of my biggest problems, so it`s nice to have options. If you have other moves for this situation, please post them.
"Tani Otoshi Variation"?

that varaiation is also illegal, you cant grab the leg or pants in any way other than to finish a move started by another method.

@magcharles1 there is no way you could break a mans back like that, samurai or not

@billysue2 Hello??? First, the samurai never practiced anything that wasn't combat proven...so, why not prove it's wrong??? LOL!!

even with the new rule changes this will work either keeping the baseball/2 hands lapel grip or using the other hand later in the tech as an assist.

Wasn't Tani Otoshi supposed to sweep the left leg as the right was suspended by the grappling move? O.o

What sucks is this variation on tani is now illegal in Judo. It totally works but you can't do it that way in a competition.

@moonrunrs if we divide up the body, half the techniques in judo are now illegal in judo!
