  • I never understood this clip. What's the point?

  • OMG!!! The apple tree with the Irish music bagpipes, I'm 37 years old and that still gives me nightmares, The face on the hill had a long nose which made me run for cover!!!

I still wouldn't look at that til this day, Totally freaked me!

Does anyone know about this cartoon with a lady;s profile that her hair and nose and chin would grow and the music was totally freakin creepy, it was a cartoon, I am shakin here just typing it!

  • I want to see that animation again too. It WAS CREEPY. The other one you're talking about I would have to see again for it to jog my memory.

  • you're not alone samuraix73 i looking all over for that one!!! That one used to creep me out!!!

  • You guys are correct; the gnomes do come out of the vase. I'm looking for a clip in particular with this same style of animation. It's with I think a frog sticking its long tongue out at am apple tree and a very eerie piece of music plays in the background. The screen then pans out and you see that the tree is on top of a mountain, and the mountain itself is a head. Anyone have this?

  • I've sought in vain for the clip you mention.

Other clips in this style seem to be a frog that inflates and explodes, the fox and the crow, a bird and a catterpillar, and something about chess if I remember correctly.

The connecting theme seems to be some sort of trick, either on the viewer or on a character within the clip. The Mountain, or whatever it was called, has given me nightmares for decades. What could it have meant? Some wierd take on the story about a tree, snake, and you know who?

  • I actually came looking for this clip because I remember how the music affected me. It was a nice calm piece in the midst of loud stuff like Mah na mah na. Maybe it was for classical music exposure/appreciation?

  • I think you're right about the appreciation of arts...sometimes you don't need the explanation, just the imagination.

  • the letter three, of course

  • The last time I checked, three was a number.

  • lol, thanks! sometimes the typing fingers are not directly connected to the brain

  • thats not all of it, anyone got the full version of that skit?

The 3 guys hop out of the vase....

  • It's amazing-- I remembered the music all these years but I forgot the visuals. I always was big on music and I realized even as a toddler that this is very beautiful music!

  • still, thanks to this clip,to this day I'm always just a LIIIIT-LE uneasy around plants..(looking over shoulder)

  • Okay,NOW I know that there were gnomes on the flowers. I thought the flowers moved on their own. now I'm not as creeped out about it anymore..

  • Speaking of animations like these, I vaguely remember this stop-motion animation from when I was a kid: The stop motion animation I'm looking for has to do with seashells where lots of seashells make all sorts of patterns on the sand. If my memory serves me correctly, the background music was partially violin music. I don't remember completely. Does anyone have this stop-motion animation?

  • Now that I think about it, I seem to remember the longer silent ending with the hopping stalk.

  • It reminds me of my two friends of Weight Watchers (Yes they are women) playing the guitar and flute

  • Maybe the number 3 was 'sponsoring' this episode. And yet it doesn't explain why we don't see the numeral anywhere.

  • i always thought the music in this was sad. :(

  • I remember there was more to this piece. One gnome slid down his stalk, another one hopped away on his and the third flew off I think. Anyone else remember this?

  • yes i remember that.

  • cute

  • That things are not always necessarily what they seem?

Don't know for sure, but I remember seeing the clip from ages ago...God only knows what i must've thought of it then, though i doubt it was anything that deep ;)

  • maybe its about conformity?

  • No discernible point, I think, but a good example of the kind of experimentation the show was prone to do in the early days. Maybe they were "mood" pieces.

  • That could be from 1974.

  • That doesn't help.
