Mayuri is totally right, scientists are supposed to create wonderful things and if the world is perfect he have nothing left to live for. You can also see into a bit of the way Mayuri views life about him. He may be catious but he is very curious
I think he use his long finger nail like some type of Forceps a medical tool use in surgery not necessarily to hold some thing, but rather move skin or organs in his way to get a better look of the insides of his test subjects. In a Close but different subject ,this is one of the best insight scenes of this Bleach and other series too. As one my Favorites.
*sniff* That was just...beautiful.I have never heard truer words.I'm actually tearing up right now because it was so wonderful to hear.I think that this is the best speech ever given.Truly,a work of art.
My sister used to loathe Mayuri. When I showed her this vid, she was just plain shocked with how amazing his speech was and now he's one of her fav characters.Score another for Mayuri!
@drew00998 It's obviously for sniffing the massive amounts of pseudo-shinigami grade cocaine and methamphetamine he cooks up in his Squad 12 barracks, which gives him his pale appearance.
@drew00998 To show that you're a scholar, and can spend time learning, it was once a practice to not cut your nails. Shows that you put all your time in study. Since if all of a scholar's nails would be too long to go through books and whatnot, they'd keep all but one trim.
@drew00998 I think it's just a style. Mayuri tends to move his fingers when he is explaining stuffs. Sometimes he dances his fingers (looks like creepy but I find it visually enjoyed).
I can only completely agree with every word Mayuri just said and I find this philosophy worth living by. Perfection does not exist and it can NEVER exist. Also, perfection MUST NEVER EXIST, because it's the ultimate height, the final point, and therefore represents DEATH. I find myself completely disgusted by anyone who talks of perfection as if it exists, because perfection is a concept for a MORONIC mind too fucking STUPID to realize that EXCELLENCE should be the REAL goal to pursue.
@darthgehena Perfection is the driving force of sentience. You cannot abandon that drive. You can only reach it, doom yourself to destruction and start anew. Mayuri doesn't hate the road to perfection, he loathes the final goal, the fact that you know the race is ultimately going to end.
Furthermore, you cannot rule out death and chaos out of the equation. They are one part of the whole Universe, where the beginning is the end is the beginning.
@Desolator84 I see where you're coming from, but I must disagree that perfection is the driving force of sentience. If that's a fact, then do provide proof to support it, because one argument against it is that I find EXCELLENCE a far more fitting driving force of sentience than perfection is. A pursuit of excellence provides an advancement to higher degrees of excellence, with even higher degrees thereof awaiting. So I'll abandon any drive towards perfection in favor of excellence any time.
@Desolator84 Furthermore, I did not rule out death from the equation. And I don't know how you came up with chaos, as you see fit to put words like that into other's mouths. I simply said that perfection itself is death, at least on an artistic and even scientific aspect. Perfection is merely the end of any and all advancement, therefore it is death. So if advancement itself is both the goal and journey, then perfection is worth forsaking. So leave that Smashing Pumkins song title alone!
Lol, the funny thing is, Mayuri spent the time to make a speech about perfection to someone who's already dead, while Renji and Ishida sat there and forgot about it the next moment :).
By the time your perfect, you will think of something as perfect... I think "perfect" is a term that have a different meaning to everyone... there is no absolute perfect since everyone seeks for different things in life... The only reason Mayuri gave out that speech is because he understands how people blindly seeks for perfection and if one is ever perfect, he will have nothing more to achieve in life and therefore there isnt a point in living anymore...
I agree with everything, but not entirely. Mentally or physically, everything is perfect in some way. Absolute perfection exists only for a moment, then it becomes flawed and imperfect since it no longer carries that signifgance. Perfection as an absolute is nonexistant because there is always something better, or it loses that splendor of being perfect, thereby becoming imperfect. Perfection does exist, but only in the moment it comes into existence.
I HATED Mayuri. I just thought he was an asshole, back in the Karakura Arc, when he fought Ishida, and later on....till this point. What he said here was what totally earned him my respect.

After all if you can't accept yourself and things around you, maybe the problem is in you and not in perfection.
Mayuri is certainly one of the strongest captains of the gotei, and probably also the hardest to kill. (Liquidification, organ transplantation, poison immune, regrowing limbs, etc...)
the speech matches the backround song if you hear it carfullly but this speech was beautiful so beautiful i loved it,so i watched it over and over again.
Mayuri Kurotsuchi is on of my favorite character,he is just awesome and this speech is just wonderful . . . btw whats the name of the song that starts at 0:40
@DraculaCronqvist I agree...Ryusei-san is amazing when it comes to being Mayuri. His voice describes the character's emotion so well. Yeah...the speech was perfect...poor Mayuri...just did what he didnt want to.
He's prefect in any role he does. I mean, he's so variable! From evil bastards, to maniacs, to funny idiots, to heroes, he can play anything 100 % convincing!
He sounds even awesome when just talking as himself... *___*

Actually, perfection is only the beginning. It starts with infinite perfection which is 100% perfect. But it goes on forever in every direction. 200% 300% 400% 1,000,000,000% percent perfect. Please believe infinite perfection is a necessity in life.
@bboy0lloyd Research the Schroedinger's Cat Theory of physics...that should help you explain your answer better. When something is, it exists 100% until proven it isn't. There is always a chance of being, and a chance of not being, but it must be: in or der to be something. It's really simple. (Just thought I'd help, dont want to offend you.)
That was unexpected but what he says is true; perfection would be boring, but not being perfect, is a lot less boring. I think some people should watch this video and think about what this crazy yet brilliant scientist says.
@MrKman211 Yeah, he really is true. However, I dont understand something. You said, "but not being perfect is alot less boring." So do you agree or disagree with Mayuri? Are you saying that to be perfect would be exciting? I must say I disagree with that but, I was just curious. Thanks.
@hashiramaskohai I may have wrote what I said the wrong way. I agree with Mayuri, perfection brings despair, there is no fun in being perfect. That's what I meant to say.
Obviously there are many different opinions on perfection. I myself don't know what to think of the word at the moment. At times it'll give you a goal and because of that goal you become a better person, but at other times the goal of obtaining perfection makes you eternally blind to the rest of society. What good would be obtaining said perfection if there was no one to share that joy with? To me, what perfection is simply depends on who you are and what you desire.
@chazytone He has an akward way of showing love? Heh...*attempts to stick up for that side of him...* I mean...think about how he must of been treated in that cell?
this is a real scientist speech cause average people will never say that about perfection and i like the fact that explanation came with that music it makes it PERFECT even though i don't like the word perfect
I love this speech Mayuri makes. We all strive for perfection and continually improve during this pursuit. Sometimes it's painful to realize that perfection is impossible, in a practical sense, but it also instills a sense of euphoria to know that the process of improvement is essentially infinite.
Mayuri needs to tell this speech to Perfect Cell from Dbz, since he claims that he is perfection.

Mayuri is certainly one of the strongest captains of the gotei, and probably also the hardest to kill. (Liquidification, organ transplantation, poison immune, regrowing limbs, etc...)
mortaljokes 1 year ago 4
has this been dubbed yet?!
LORDZERO777 1 year ago
This is why Myuri is one of my gave captains.

Amazing Mayuri describe 1/10 of the meaning of life.
Beautiful speech but very realistic.

Perhaps we can apply this to "String Theory".

This speech was perfect! ^^ Sorry Mayuri, but I guess you did create something perfect, unwillingly. XD
Also, is it just me or does Ryusei Nakao's voice acting making this about a million times better than it already is?
DraculaCronqvist 1 year ago 8

ICANGO247 2 years ago
well....if theres 1,000,000,000% that means 100% counts as (1 to 100) witch means it still too far & impossible to reach
bboy0lloyd 1 year ago
@bboy0lloyd Research the Schroedinger's Cat Theory of physics...that should help you explain your answer better. When something is, it exists 100% until proven it isn't. There is always a chance of being, and a chance of not being, but it must be: in or der to be something. It's really simple. (Just thought I'd help, dont want to offend you.)
hashiramaskohai 1 year ago
That was unexpected but what he says is true; perfection would be boring, but not being perfect, is a lot less boring. I think some people should watch this video and think about what this crazy yet brilliant scientist says.
MrKman211 2 years ago 3
@MrKman211 Yeah, he really is true. However, I dont understand something. You said, "but not being perfect is alot less boring." So do you agree or disagree with Mayuri? Are you saying that to be perfect would be exciting? I must say I disagree with that but, I was just curious. Thanks.
hashiramaskohai 1 year ago
@hashiramaskohai I may have wrote what I said the wrong way. I agree with Mayuri, perfection brings despair, there is no fun in being perfect. That's what I meant to say.
MrKman211 1 year ago
What he says is very true. If Science could already explain everything what would be the point of its further existence?
PresentationM 2 years ago 26
@PresentationM um, doesn't that depend entirely on what the explaination is?

you know what would trump this scene? mayuri dubbed by one of those hindi actors. it would be hillarious!!!
ashcrimsonl 2 years ago
Obviously there are many different opinions on perfection. I myself don't know what to think of the word at the moment. At times it'll give you a goal and because of that goal you become a better person, but at other times the goal of obtaining perfection makes you eternally blind to the rest of society. What good would be obtaining said perfection if there was no one to share that joy with? To me, what perfection is simply depends on who you are and what you desire.

this is a real scientist speech cause average people will never say that about perfection and i like the fact that explanation came with that music it makes it PERFECT even though i don't like the word perfect

It's okay as long as it's just a figure of speech or a common saying.

I love this speech Mayuri makes. We all strive for perfection and continually improve during this pursuit. Sometimes it's painful to realize that perfection is impossible, in a practical sense, but it also instills a sense of euphoria to know that the process of improvement is essentially infinite.
