Yea, Jeffkim, please, tell me what chord do u use in chorus when u play it for the second time. first line is F-G-Am, and i just cant figure it out whats next. G/F#???Btw Paulipaz, i play this song on uke 2:)
Hey Jeffkim. Could you list out the chords? I can't hear everything you say (even at the highest volume) and see i'm trying to transpose this to ukulele. I appreciate you posting this. I love it when people do these kind of videos. :) kudos
so I picked up my guitar to try and learn along with this tutorial. and then you said "I'm just gonna play a quick intro to highlight some of the chords" .........and then I just put my guitar back down.
thanks a lot! the tabs on the net are all oversimplified and he uses all these unusual and interesting chords, which is part of why i wanted to learn his songs, and the live stuff of him always focuses on something other than his fret hand during the difficult ones. good ear! (voice and everything else too...) are you seriously using a camera mic??
one criticism: would've been better if you'd tuned up before hand. i'm in tune with the song but i'm out of tune with you even with capo...
i wish when you were my teacher back in the day (ok, like 18 years ago....) when i took guitar! It's much easier to learn from you than from Ray Romano! (yes, that was my guitar teacher's name, funnily enough). and you sure beat guitar spiellen or whatever it's called now - harmony central - printouts. oh and they're right, you have a great voice, very soothing. Makes me wanna snuggle w ya whi le you sing and maybe if your nice I'll sing ya some mary lou lord back:)
This video tutorial idea is really amazing. I can't imagine how many people you are helping. I'm a little rusty, but I'm just about the right skill level at the guitar for this to be attainable for me with a lot of practice. I have a baby almost due and I'm so excited to be able to play this song for her. Thanks so much!
Elliott doesnt play it in standard, he tunes a whole step down. This is still perfect chord sequence though, so people shouldn't down rate just for that. ;)
yea i agree with zombie. who cares if you have to play it an octave lower or higher to better suit your singing range? it doesnt really matter, whatever suits you best.
haha ok buddy. you want to have a real argument and yet you call me a loser bitch and tell me to go fuck myself? the reason why ur irrelevant, and yes, dumb, is because ur criticizing his singing in a GUITAR TUTORIAL. he may be singing low because he wants us to be able to hear the guitar chords he's playing, which is the whole fucking point of this.. geez.
There's no way i can sing in the same register without turning this into a screeching comedy instead of a tutorial. :) This isn't a voice lesson, just guitar. most of these are recorded line-in at hours where my neighbors would kill me for mic-ing and singing properly. anyway, thanks for checking it out. you guys should try and help each other instead of fighting because times are rough for everyone. Gotta help those around you, not take them down. cheers.
What a pathetic comment. The guy is just helping others and circulating the music of a great artist. What is quite sad is that your musical ignorance is displayed in your reference to john lennon. Well done on branching out there; not to criticise him at all, just you. The fact that he has posted the video shows that he sees there is 'nothing wrong' as you so eloquently put in doing a rendition of smith's work.
can someone write the chords out for me? sorry my comp has no audio right now, and its really hard to try and make out all the chords without audio. any help appreciated, thanks!
this song is accually not in standard tuning. it is tuned down a whole stepp on each string from standar so it would be DGCFAD thats how a lot of elliots stuff is.
that 4th chord is supposed to be an E??? Check out the original elliot smith one. Also he tunes the guitar down to D in that clip (hes wearing a yellowish shirt-yellowish background)
unless your chaning the relationship of the notes on each strings, tuning in standard, half step down, or whole step down doesn't really matter... so stop arguing about it... its just a preference thing... and is often based on singing voice...
when someone is tuning to a completely different relatonship, like drop D, or tuning to G or D, as is typical with slide guitar, then tuning becomes important to be able to make the right shapes, with proper slides and hammers, etc...
I really appreciate you taking the time to put this up; I've pretty much got it...Can you just give me the chords in order; verse/chorus/bridge cheers.
How long have you been playing for? I want to get good enough to play like that. I mean, I can play music that is complex, but it's my own so it isn't really like learning because it just kind of flows, but learning to play someone else's music just seems more difficult for me. I think that if I could simply focus long enough to teach myself to read music, I might have an easier time at it.
The intro is so beautiful - it's awesome! You have a charming voice, but you need to sing with more projection (but that could be because of the video, too)
that intro sounds great! i love that little slide you put in, i dont know why it just adds a lot of flavor. You're the man, sounds amazing.
is that really standard tuning? i have to tune a step down to match yours but im not even sure of that. maybe my guitar sucks though. i really want to learn how to play the song
you have awesome tutorials. however i think you play too fast. try to pause your fingers a couple of seconds on the cords, i'm always pausing the video, but i can't see some parts. Angeles and this one :)
Congratulations dude. I would do anything to be on your shoes, i wish i could play as good as you
The tuning is not drop D Its all tuned down a half step, tuning the E down to D would just fuck up how every chord that includes that string sounds. Also in the verse in the first run throught it goes C C/B
hey good work dude, I watched a video of elliott doing it first, then watched this. I missed alot of the subtlties, i still cant get the f to sound right, i feel like an f major might work better
man, i love that song. the main progression moves from a C to an F (with a hammer on) then to an Aminor, but i'll try to lay that out this weekend if i find some time to record it. thanks for checking the clips out, take care!
I think your fourth chord (after the C) sounds kinda wrong, i do a G6 (320000) which is probably wrong too, but idk your whatever you call it sounds wrong.
Nope, I was wrong, on a live version of between the bars you can see Elliott playing the exact same chord as the one Jeff uses. So, I think this version is quite accurate :)
