  • He looks like me with my glasses in 1:15. :)

  • Anyone hear the title music to "Boys from Brazil," which is about using Hitler DNA to make little Hitlers. HA! Gregory Peck starred. The film's title music is a very clever waltz satire. The motif is the Johan Strauss Blue Danube Waltz orchestrated in the style of Richard Strauss. The satirical contrast is that Johan was Jewish and Richard was a supposedly Nazi-leaning composer. Dreadful comparison, lovely music.

  • The Americans landed on the Moon. They landed amazing probes on Mars with their creativity and brains. Cal Tech JPL is an amazing organization. They will land the first humans on Mars-but within 40 years. I project high risk/high reward-low cost but big risk. The USA is the only country that can do it within the 21st century-not only because of the technology-but because of their vision and guts.

  • @usadear2me An utter waste of taxpayers money. This is work for private enterprise. They are smart enough to lobby so the taxpayers pay for it and the space ship civilian contractors make the money.

  • This soundtrack makes the movie for sure...perfect

  • @cuppacker Its not a great movie its an ok movie but the music is great

  • I LOVE that romantic theme at 1:08. Nicely setup by the percussion, etal.

    Whatever happened to Elliot Gould???

  • @Glinkaism1 he did the oceans 11 movies

  • @spacepatrolman He was absolutely perfect as a journalist in Capricorn One! So was the NASA guy who discovered the space ship was off course.

  • @Glinkaism1 that part where they rigged his car to drive through alleys at 100 mph must have been animated with stop motion animation and taking frames out no stuntman could drive that fast

  • @spacepatrolman That was awesome! Would be great to know exactly what they did.

Can't exactly recall the sequence, but Elliot was looking for someone. He goes to an apartment complex and the entire room was done over and the person there had no idea what he was talking about. It was too unbelievable to be believed. I consider that a flaw in the movie.

Some really great scenes though. David Doyle as Elliot's editor satirizes l hokey lines like "I'm giving you 24 hours." :)

  • @Glinkaism1 that sounds like when the stuntman went to george reeves house the day after he shot himself he said there werent any bullet holes in the floor they couldnt have replaced the floor that fast if they were trying to cover up a murder

  • @spacepatrolman O000hhh 1:16 lovely theme just started on the C1 video.

    * When Elliot turned on the lights in the old hanger and there was the Mars set. * Shaggy dog "cat in on the roof" climber story. * David Huddleston gets off the phone and says, "asshole." James Brolin, "Remember that vacation we took last year?" (Old west movie set)

  • @Glinkaism1 I know a guy who went out west and took pictures of richard boone running around in the desert making a movie against a crooked sky

  • I would have preferred to just watch Jerry conduct the orchestra without the montage of clips. I've seen that movie dozens of times, it's great, but us Goldsmith fans like watching him in action, conducting his great music.

  • @Innertauts

bud, that's Jerry conducting The River Wild sessions, not the Capricorn theme....and some of ''us'' Goldsmith fans like the montage of clips too. Thanks for the comment though

  • Liked the presentation and music - one of my favourite scores by Jerry Goldsmith. Thank you for posting this.

  • @tortybits

    you're welcome

  • Literally breathtaking score. One of the most underrated movies of the last 40 years.

  • Awesome - I recently watch the movie on Netflix. Score makes the movie

  • Amazing;

  • One of my all time favorite soundtracks by the great JERRY GOLDSMITH! Such power! He was the rhythm king (patterned after Stravinsky). BRILLIANT!

  • I love this soundtrack to bits, a truly great composer, he could score films greater than most :-)

  • This is a superb and exciting piece of music to an equally superb thriller movie. Mr. Goldsmith is definitely among the musical legends as far as I am concerned. The music to this film puts you right into the movie itself and also describes the mood perfedctly. My hats off to this guy for producing such an awesome theme!

  • Great score, as usual, for Jerry Goldsmith. He used a very similar background beat for his theme to Total Recall, which may have been an ode to Capricorn One since both movies involved a mission to Mars.

  • This IS the best version of the music. Has that lovely triumphant theme by the strings at about 1:10 to 1:48 before the percussion comes in again. They played that strings them at the end scene when the astronauts came in slow motion to end the movie. Wow! Can someone post that last scene?

  • @Glinkaism1 Actually, it was only one astronaut in that final scene. It was during the memorial service for all of them. Little did everyone know that there was one survivor who "showed up at his own funeral." I will never forget the terrified look on his wife's face after she turned around and saw him runnning towards her and everybody. The other two were supposedly killed offscreen since all we saw were the flares they shot off as they were captured by Calloway's men in the helicopters.

  • @kenpalmer1965 Oh year. There were two people there though, that made it. One was the astronaut the other was the reporter. They were slow-motioned. Can't recall offhand who played the reporter. Tall guy. Really well done. Inf act, the supporting cast were really fantastic. Howe about Hal Holbrook's "aria" about why it all had to be faked. And BTW, the landings WERE ALL faked in real life! Life imitates art, as Oscar Wilde said. :)

  • And it was an odd bit of trivia that the two stars (Elliott Gould and James Brolin) had been or would one day be married to Barbra Streisand.

  • And it was an odd bit of trivia that the two stars of Capricorn One (Elliott Gould and James Brolin) had been or would one day be married to Barbra Streisand.

  • I just saw the "improved" version and while it's terrific I really do prefer this. It just flows better and has more heart.

I'd have to compare them side by side and shot for shot to really make more precise comments as to why and If I had the time I'd love to do it but regardless you have a great music and editorial sense and I hope you have a chance to utilize you talents professionally.

    Cheers,

    Charles Mazarakes

  • @bowman05

Hey Charles....yeah i know i pulled a George Lucas retro-fiting on that one...couldn't resist upgrading it to HD size....older version is better but the new one looks peachier. Thanks for yer comment and all the best for the new year.

  • Genius....born with a gift. Almost like him and John Williams were brothers.....awesome, I grew up with their music in my movies, my dreams. Total genius.

  • Anyone else think young Goldsmith looked like Dustin Hoffman?

  • This blows me away, great stuff.

  • Just listen to his score for "Mr. Baseball".

  • This music is very popular among Japanese people. One of legendarily popular 1970's TV show named "Adventure of Kawaguchi Hiroshi" used this song.

  • Great job!

  • I think this is totally awesome!!! One of my favorite movies, since the 70's!!! I love this soundtrack!!! thanks for spending so much time on this! God bless Mr. Goldsmith!!! Carry On!!!

  • you can't go wrong with a movie with black choopers

  • Jerry is my best!!

I am sorry but like this poor version!!

    ;)

  • @derekwillstar

...whatever works for you sir...thanks for the comment and cheers.

  • @zerokomma I think some people really like this version of Goldsmith's original end title music, but others don't. Personally I don't. Which cover version is it? It's big and loud, but it seems lacking sharpness compared to the original film version. Also the missing strings during the central part is just bizarre (I realise the original OST realease also didn't have the strings.) Great work on the editing though and a really nice tribute to Goldsmith.

  • @DOMuricu

...this is the main title from the re-recording for the album release of the score, found on the GNP Crescendo disc. I thought it is much better suited for an edit because of the punchy nature of the performance although i don't know about the missing strings...they are obviously there in the middle bridge section. Thanks for yer comment though...mighty appreciated and glad you enjoyed it.

  • @derekwillstar - No need to be sorry. This is the original film theme, far from poor.

  • Has anyone noticed that all the movie music is just shit now. ? What about Roy Budd / John Barry Roy's no longer with us but who uses these guys now./ Aaaaagh!.

  • @kezadrone

...i noticed. Good point...today's scores mostly suck.

  • @zerokomma You want a good film score that fits the film, apart from Lord of the Rings (of course), there's K-19 the Widowmaker by Klaus Badelt, its very 'russian', and there are some segments on Youtube.

  • @zerokomma Right on. It's the video games and rap music mentality. All movie scores are all clones of such degenerate pastimes. So what you have in movie scores now are tuneless, percussion-happy drones. It is a waste of talented musicians to play this lowlife crap. Glad I grew up with movie music of Max Steiner, Korngold, Goldsmith and the like. So remember the great movie music. Because that's all we can do is remember the great past.

  • @kezadrone

yes i have noticed and tv series are starting to give up on signature themes as well

  • @kezadrone john barry was buying his own soundtrack records to give out to producers so they will know who he is

  • @spacepatrolman If they had to do that they've no biz being in movies soundtracks. If I get a composer who didn't know who Goldsmith was I'd tell them to piss off. I find that Incredible.

  • @kezadrone

    hear, hear. HELL YES

  • @kezadrone gail kubik won the pulitzer prize he said the producers didnt know what the pulitzer prize was let alone who he was.

  • @kezadrone - Not true. Listen to some of James Newton Howard's works, you might have a change of mind on that. ;-)

  • @badboy10ize I may just do that. Caheers mate.

  • @kezadrone - you are most welcome.

  • @badboy10ize James Newton Howard's rubbish. Cold, sentimental Muzak is all he writes. Hasn't got anything on Goldsmith.

  • @RogueRotting360 - Is that why he did the music for Green Lantern and is still sought after. YOU DUMB SHIT.

  • @ChuckyDoll10 He did the music for Green Lantern because he gave them what they wanted. That doesn't mean the music's anything great.

  • @kezadrone john barry was buying used copys of his records to give to producers so they would know who he is

  • @kezadrone there is a cable tv station that plays film music north goldsmith and tiomkin stand out against the background of current mediocrity .

  • Great movie. Telly Savales camo in this flick was halarious!

  • Hands down greatest conductor of all times. Great movie and the music had a lot to do with it.

  • That shot at 1:44 where the camera pulls back to reveal the two wasp-like helicopters already waiting on the cliff top is just brilliant.

  • that was fockin immense! Jerry at his best, and thats saying something!

  • @SharpeyCol

cheers mate....yep Jerry was the greatest.

  • Zerokomma - you're a legend! Great video of one of my fave films.

  • @TK42138

....glad u like it and thank u. ...one of my faves too.

  • Nicely done.

    This theme always stirs me.

I like "52 Pickup," too (Gary Chang).

  • Wonderful music...and a beautiful tribute. Thank you for this.

  • Great use of 5/4 metre. Difficult to conduct. Depends on how the conductor divides the beat. I miss Jerry, as I am sure all of you who love his music do.

  • This man could score a film, blessings to him and his family

  • that is a brilliant piece of music ...really rocks

  • Folks, we never went to the moon. That is why we cannot go now.

  • A great theme by a great man.

  • Head banging, air drum playing, arm chair sitting brilliance!

The Z is one of a kind!

  • @sinbad0910

...nothing like a good headbanging session to a fantastico goldsmith tune. Cheers mate.

  • @sinbad0910

    Can't argue with that...

  • Awesome theme. A good reminder that Mr. Goldsmith has more good scores other than "The Omen" or "Star Trek". Thanx for posting!

  • Amazing work. I love it.

  • To see anything new related to Goldsmith and Capricorn One is a treat, as he was my favorite composer and Capricorn One was the only movie I ever saw with just my father and me alone.

  • Why is it those old movies had the baest scores?

  • I'd no idea he was no longer with us. Shit that's so bloody bad. I'd hoped that he could have scored a movie for me the day I get a big budget. That's a bloody shame man. Still I've got the Supergirl score in mint condition on LP. Roy Budd was another fine composer. But we have got Danny Elfman.

  • Perfect music for government run amok. Apply to 2010!

  • Thank you for this.

  • What time signature is this wriiten in?

  • Beautifully done! Thank you for posting!

  • @flonsta

    Thank You.

  • @zerokomma thanks for making this video

  • @carabimero

    yer welcome.

  • Jerry was the master of the meter (I'm sure he studied Stravinsky in depth). I think that he brought out the 7 meter in films more than anyone. I know for sure that Marco Beltrami was influenced by him. One of my favorite scores by Goldsmith is from "The Planet of The Apes". It's very raw and orchestral. "The Hunt" is classic!. But my #1 film composer of all times will always be......BERNARD "PSYCHO" HERRMANN!!!

  • @peppersax

can't argue with that. Psycho is indeed the creme de la creme of film scores, but Jerry's body of work is unparralleled. He was the best!

  • @peppersax > I'm sure he studied Stravinsky in depth

    More like Bartok here...

  • @peppersax he was influenced by stravinsky as was keith emerson john williams seems to be more into holst and korngold except for close encounters

  • Remember the fake NASA Apollo moon landings when you watch this film

  • Pretty wonderful. Thanks.

  • Che ritmo!

  • kick ass score- too bad the movie didn't live up to it

  • One of my favorite soundtracks. Well put for big brother chaseing after their own government people.

  • thank you Jerry for all your beautiful music........we miss you, rest in peace Mr. Goldsmith.

  • Great tribute! Goldsmith was a master! I don't hear any new film composers emerging with his talent for orchestration.

  • @Bawookles

    ...very true.

  • @zerokomma Not very true. Goldsmith didn't do the orchestration. No film composer does. They write the piano score. The studio hires an orchestrator.

  • @Bawookles I'm glad you enjoy the orchestration, but it wasn't Jerry Goldsmith; it was Arthur Morton.

  • genius,zero..absolute belter this one...lov it,a fitting tribute to a genius..thanks the world we had jerry..awesome buddy

  • The Jerry rules and always will with his music...thanks for yer comment Maestro Zinx, mighty appreciated.

  • I just watched the movie again and heard composer David Shire, musically. Anybody else get the same vibe? Not so much when Goldsmith is being lyrical, but when he is lining up those disjointed chords.

  • Most excellent . . . !!!

  • ...thank u.

  • A classic ! Thanks!!!

  • oh! thanks for the upload and appreciation.. i'm glad that i'm not alone.. thus i don't feel like such a dork! when i was growing up.. talking of him got me beat up! ;D, not that i'm complaining! it was worth it!

  • first time i enjoy his work was with goldfinger... i almost wanna blame danny elfman for being his apprentise.. but, i won't accuse.. (since, so far i 'ain't' found any interviews... but i can hear it in elfman's work.. tho- i may be wrong.. so that's just assumptions... )

  • WOW.....i turn up the volume in my headphones and this music takes me back. thanks for posting. this kind of music means alot to me.

  • Great soundtrack as the movie!

  • One of Peter Hyams best movies ,i love it

  • exellent editing! Perfect fit for my favorite main title track!

  • @ironhandz1

    Thank you.

  • the soundtrack to this film in awesome, one of my favorite soundtracks in my extensive collection. kay's theme is a beautiful piece of music. one of my favorite parts of the film is when o.j. simpson gets killed. i can watch that scene over and over and over and over again

  • This is one of the best tribute videos I've seen anywhere. I was lucky enough to see the great man in person at a concert at The Barbican in London. He was there to conduct the RPO in an evening of his film music. Unforgettable.

  • @TK42138

thanks for yer comment bud....you're indeed lucky to have seen the Maestro in his full glory. Cheers.

  • why isn't he still liviing? :(

  • @nevertheless123, he was a heavy smoker, and this is what caused his colon cancer.

  • Fabulous deadication, superb film and a very talented man.

  • ...thank you.

  • This soundtrack is great, as the whole movie is.

  • well done ,thanks for posting,,,bp

  • ancora un grandissimo compositore di musica da film bravissimo............

  • this is well put together ... a fitting tribute....and stiring......reflective at the same time

  • Thanks.

  • many thanks for posting this ...amazing how some music fires up your abbility's ...my uni essays are writing themselves when listening to this awe inspiring overture ....many thanks

  • ..yer welcome bud.

  • next to John and Alex North Willims this great composer honored them greatly in the nfilmes was responsavel.Magnifico his death has left us orphans.

  • Great soundtrack for a great movie!!!

I watched this one as a kid. It awoke my interest for government conspiracy theories.

  • very well done ! Brian Clifton

  • This is an outstanding tribute to the memory of a great man and great composer. Bravo to you!! Well done!!

  • Verrrry well done.

  • Thanks. Crackin' channel you've got on yer own!

  • I watched this movie in theaters when it first came out in 1979., in Yugoslavia, under the title ``Space Station One``. ``Roof scene`` and Telly Savalas were the best.

  • Cool. Thanks for posting this.God Bless Jerry Goldsmith......the absolute dog's bollocks of great film composers.

  • Wisely spoken!

  • How??!! Where???!! What a wonderous posting!

  • BRAVO!!!

  • Arigato gozaimasu

  • sir elliot gould...is one cool mother...video executed with precision..and that soundtrack..woooooo..great bud it has been fived

  • ...Mr. Gould is one of the greatest , me thinks! True 70's icon!

  • antiparedra you were a genious you still are and you will be on eternity you filthy creature!!!

  • Long live Jerry, the ponytailed Master, Mr. President! A great honor to have your comment here! Let's exchange deeply philosophical cinematic chit-chat over triple frapedoumpes.! Three hip hip hurrahs!

  • What a great score! brilliant!

  • Damn, I need that!!!! Great post!! Andy

  • Thanks. Yer vids are great too.

  • elliot gould what a great actor..the long goodbye is his finest hour superb movie...keep up the great work

  • Brilliant actor, ultra cool performances and the best 70's cop mustache in Peter Hyams "Busting"!

  • fantastic video...and a superb main title

  • Hey! This is footage from the scoring of The River Wild. It's still a good video, though.

  • "The cat is on the roof, the cat is on the roof!"

  • Fabulous! I love the timing in your editing. One of the great Goldsmith scores ever. Brilliant, just brilliant. And I love that you got the aspect ratio correct. I don't take this for granted, since so many people on YouTube mess it up. But yours is perfect all the way through. WONDERFUL!!!

  • Thank you.

  • Excellent movie and score! The 70's era was hot for films....this is one of my favorites!

  • Best decade for films. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.

  • This is great!

    Very well done!

  • Thanx.

  • Jerry Goldsmith is for me seriously underated. John Williams seems to get all the plaudits but Jerry Goldsmith still remains one of the greatest movie score compossers of all time.

  • Right on! Williams always got too dramatic at the wrong moments. One Williams moment that stands out for me as stupid (and it's Spielberg's doing too) is in "Jurassic Park" when they first arrive on the island by helicopter and the theme music is playing as they're landing...ya know...da nah nah nah..all over the top & it's just a fuckin helicopter landing. Nothing special.

  • oh yes. John Williams is over rated. Jerry on the other hand is in my opinion the greates composer of all time

  • You said it, chopperpilot5! Goldsmith was to film music to what The Beatles were to rock n' roll. I'm still waiting for the maestro to get a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

  • @vividwatch47 Err, no offense to Mr. Goldsmith, who I like, but I take it you've never heard of Bernard Herrmann, Nino Rota, Max Steiner, Aaron Copland or Erich Wolfgang Korngold? Just for starters?

  • @jgrab1, OH, I YES I HAVE! In fact, have you ever heard of Hugo Friedhofer, Miklos Rozsa, Henry Mancini, and John Barry? These men were responsible for getting me hooked on to film music. I been listening to film music for over 41 years, and I bet you never heard of Herschel Burke Gilbert. I happen to be 48 years old, and I have listened to the five composers you mentioned for most of those years, in addition to Goldsmith. So don't say I know nothing about film music, dummy!

  • @vividwatch47 Not to get into a pissing contest but um, yes, I have heard of Friedhofer, Rozsa, Mancini, and Barry. BFD.

  • @vividwatch47 He doesn't have one?? Geeze, they give them to all sorts of undeserving people these days...It's sad if he doesn't have his.

  • @jgrab1, he was offered a star on on the Walk Of Fame but declined, because he was told he had to pay to have on.

  • @vividwatch47, I meant he was told he had to pay to have one!

  • @vividwatch47 he even used rock music likein thw man from uncle

  • @vividwatch47 he was into rock music some he used it in the man from uncle but he said he didnt like jazz? rosza said he didnt like it either.

  • @dokokai I don't see why you can't appreciate both composers equally really. They're both giants.

  • @hurginator I can appreciate Williams' ability as a composer, but what I'm saying is he's a little over rated compared to Goldsmith or Hermann.

  • This is a fabulous video put together to a fabulous score by Goldsmith. The editing couldn't be better.

    Gave me goosebumps.

    Great job!!!

  • Thank you.

  • Nice edit. I love all the scores you've done!
