  • I think it's faked... But I could be wrong

  • I would love to see an HD remake for the PC for XCOM. Why don't they go that route?

  • @McNeelyJ They are BUT it's 3D just like Enforcer... apprently RTS games aren't any good any more : (

  • @Blunder1248 3D is not the same as 'mindless First-Person Shooter'. 3D merely describes rendering engines. Most modern RTS games are 3D, like Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, StarCraft II, Supreme Commander 1 and 2, RUSE, Company of Heroes, Dawn of War series, etc... However, you also probably meant Turn-Based Strategy games, not Real-Time Strategy... But Turn-Based are not dead as you imply, either. Civilization still goes strong, and there are many Tactical TBS from Japan...

  • @Blunder1248 ... and now 2K Games has put Civilization developers Firaxis on the task of creating a proper Tactical Strategy remake called XCOM: Enemy Unknown. I'm keeping track of that one, hoping it lives up to its pedigree. Not to say I haven't enjoyed UFO: Aftermath (Altar) and UFO: Extraterrestrials Gold (Chaos Concept), though...

  • Man of all the takes of XCOM, like many others, why cant the orig be redubbed, updated, maybe even add 1st person cams to it finding all these and finding they dont even compare to the orig DOS game...I too began my own lil proj, but all data files, models were wiped out by a DAMN Virus

  • Love the music! Wish there was a whole remade soundtrack.

  • Why I cant publish a link?

I have a vision about how the real spiritual successor should look-alike.

I have posted it on crymod forum, under XCOM: Crysis name.

  • @Jazoja2

This video is available to the public.

  • Why I cant publish a link?

  • There will be a new X-Com that will have the same gameplay as the original one (Terror from the Deep combined with Ufo Defence) with greater graphics and some new features.

  • haha...good fake.

  • @ermanay11

    it's not a fake! it's my dream ;)

  • Why is the Earth upside down? :P

  • @LJVolkov21

    So it has turned out

  • @LJVolkov21 I think there's no such thing as up and down in space...it's easier to think of it as a flat map, but there's just no real center.

  • @LJVolkov21

earth is not upside down in actuality.... in space there is no such thing as upside down, up or down when you are not within in a gravity field, 'upside down' is a human construct to measure proximity to another object

  • Can we just get over all this X-Com remake thing. The original are still, and always will be, fine!

  • nice music

  • @DVAFP I want to know who did this X-Com Geo-scape Remix. The video said DJ Sonic, but I think that's just the up-loader. The remix is, pretty sick to say the least.

  • For a moment there I thought it was a real game. You broke my heart :(

  • My God, X-Com with such graphips would be infunkincredible... shame none made any remake. Imagine old fashioned UFO 1 with actual graphics and some improvements, like medals in Apocalypse, more variety of guns (shooting Sectoid with a pump shotgun in the head would be awsome!), enemies etc. even with some of the changes (listed above) and nowadays gpraphigs it would be a spectacular succes... would be first in line to buy it! ;)

  • Well, and I think this would be too much asking (and dreaming) but it would be nice that the place where you land dictated the type of environment you'd found in tactical missions. Landing in middle of Berlin -> Heavy urban, landing in south Spain -> light urban or village, landing in South America -> Jungle .....etc

    We're lucky dreaming is free

  • Has any of the XCOM games or their offshoots NOT been like that?

  • @Alignn to some extent, the first UFO was....but city terrain all looked the same, desert terrain all looked the same, some more variety would be appreciated....

The most recent UFOs don't even have random terrain. At the very very least they should have a larger selection of maps, say 40, not only 7 or 8. I got tired of fighting for the same ruins/factory/complex/forest over and over again...

  • @AlWoolridge

procedurally generated buildings and houses. use google maps or geoeye or some shit for the placement of roads and structures. randomly place objects logically.

have the ufo crash land anywhere and build your environment on the fly.

its not impossible at all and it'd be amazing.

people should dream in the present more, instead of dreaming with software companies who are stuck in time with console gaming and everquest

  • Now that's a good idea! :)

But I think that'd be too hard, and actually I wouldn't notice the difference between real environment and randomly-generated-but-still-plausible-and-logic environment.

Another thing I liked more of the original UFO compared to the new ones is the aspect of the ufo itself. I prefer a technological spaceship look rather than a bio-thing with nerves, muscles and veins. Lifts or gravlifts better than transporters, too.

  • @AlWoolridge

its not that tough. rogue-like games all have randomly generated maps! and the novelty of having those maps more-or-less based off an actual map of the world would be just keen. bonus points for photorealism :D

yeah! the original was all about killing 'the grays' and their flying saucers and stuff. where did all these flying meat blobs like in xcom apocalypse come from?

  • Terror raid missions underneath the Eiffel tower or urban areas like new york where you have to clear them block by block. One can dream.

  • Yeah, with crisalids lurking around and hundreds of zombies....it's not resident evil but hey, fun and frightening as hell! xD

  • What I'd really like to see is something like the original, with up-to-date graphics, and plenty of possibilities (research, weapons, xenos, variety of missions -at least 10 or 12 different mission objectives!!-, tactics...). Serious look. Turn based or simultaneous turn based. Random urban & rural environment...(mostly urban).

  • I couldn't agree more, all those new Ufo's and X-coms do not have that uniqueness so the best thing someone could do is to remake the first UFO/X-com, make new graphics etc.

  • Aw, dude...

  • Someone needs to make this game, NOW.

  • Played all the games: UFO Defense, TFTD, Apocalypse and Interceptor. Loved them all, this series has gotta come back!

  • They are making the remake of UFO Earth Defense (UFO Enemy Unknown)!

They'll call it UFO Cydonias Fall!

    Just google it!

  • Compatible with Win XP?

  • Yes ;)

  • Oh man. Can't wait for it. I've saw some awesome screenshots.

  • I can't wait too.

  • where did you see them?

  • you gotta be joking, there a bit late, but wtf i love you for telling me :D

  • Thanks P4D3LL05 have ever tired UFO after math after light after shock or extraterrestrials? I like After the best. (Well I was always a fan of post-apocalyptic dystopia and you get mig 29s)

  • I actually have played UFO Afterlight which was pretty good, but i always liked more the turn based combat.

So i prefer Enemy unknown, terror from the deep and apocalypse.

  • Try aftershock with the weapon rebalance mod, much better than afterlight IMO

  • enforcer was a bit lame, but why don't people just come together and mod the apocolyse, and update it to be like a multiplayer with new stuff?

  • Rumour has it that 2K Boston are working on a remake. They certainly have the rights, and the head of designer there is a big x-com fan.

  • they need to as this is a very good classic series of games and i want to play the classic x-com but vista says different .... maybe they will have internet wars with the x-com and aliens .... GREAT GAME ...

  • You can buy all the X-com games on Steam. I bet they will run on Vista too.

  • You need a dos box or it won't work : P.

  • I think you got me wrong: If you buy them over steam they run on steam which means they will run on any os that has steam.(XP and Vista)

  • Yeah on stem they open up on a dox box forget to mention that. :P. So it will run on xp/vista.

  • they do, but i sorta worry about the new n7

  • I would LOVE to see XCom remade like this...

Sigh... but that looks too advanced... I won't live long enough to see it... will I? :(

  • Maybe! Games keep getting more and more advanced with each successive generation. Look at the Wii compared to the Gamecube, and the Gamecube compared to the N64. I'd say by the time we're 40, there'd be stuff ten times more advanced than this.

  • Actually, that sort of Earth rendering is very much possible using modern game engines.

  • Are you sure about that? :D

  • It's more than possible. That's actually rather simple compared to what's possible now.

  • altar games didn't invest in ufo much so the end result is the same.

but imagine a coop multiplayer like game similer to red alert 3. the starts in the game are difficult and this could be made easy with another human controlling another team.

why doesn't anyone develop an open source code game?

  • coop? wtmotherfucking hell is coop? i've heard of Co-op but never ever Coop.

  • nit picking

    potato poteto

  • Can anyone point to a source for this thing? It seems far to sick for an average Mod, and if it's a true sequel, the intro music alone got my blood pumping. That epic "Yeah here's your sequel prepare to give up your nights" kind of music.

    Sources? Information? Anyone?

  • It's not a game, it is a pretentious video.

  • it's only in my dreams

  • Dream on then, and explain more in your description!!!!

  • whats this video from?

  • X-COM>>>>UFO´s

    what´s happened whit microprose???

  • if i remember right they sold the rights of the ufo series

also their web site was closed long time ago

  • dudes,

    try UFO:Aftermath, UFO:Aftershock and UFO:Afterlight....

    especially aftermath rocks.

  • I liked the Aftermath concept with modernary weapons and the closest in plot and vibes to ufo defense classic. the rest of sequal started going astray though.

  • The problem is, any new game should be based on the old-one, with same alien races etc... Just with slightly updated music and graphics, and I don't mean 3D crap leave them 2D but just make them look better and smoother.

  • Its strange that they dont take the fans seriously and make a game similar to Enemy Unknown..They would have made more money out of that than these new ones! The new movement on this games suck too..better movement with the old ones

  • in X-COM:UFO defense we trust! :>

15 years and still no worthy remakes :(

why do other x-coms/ufos suck so much? :(

  • because only microprose can make another xcom sequel.

  • Mythos (that's the team behind X-COM 1, Microprose is a publisher) didn't make it. TFTD was made by another team to make a quick buck on popularity of X-COM.

But even that wasn't enough for Microprose, and the result is a sad beta named Apocalypse. Which could've been even greater than the first X-COM if Mythos was given more time.

The came the failure called Interceptor, and then Hasbro bought the brand and shut the party down. The end.

  • They got a quick buck for this shitload of fuck.

  • @Ta6bl4 dunno i think x-com apocalypse was pretty awsome tho :)

  • @Ta6bl4 ufo extraterrestrials didnt suck it was a good remake unlike all thouse shitty Ufo remakes and now their making a first person shooter where you have to hunt aliens and their calling it X-com thats just bullshit i would buy the game because it looks cool but i would still preffer another good remake...

  • @Ta6bl4 2 years later but still hey :) dont you like ufo aftermath? No its not the same as ufo enemy unknown but it is still a great little spin off.

  • Thats right. They just need to remake the xcom game but with new gfx...its that so much to ASK?!?!? I mean come on already!

  • @n9spooks UFO extratereestrials look it up!

its a remake of the orrignal X-com game but with higher graphics (not HD but still 3d and has much better graphics) more weapons (also its on a diffrent planet but the plot and the gameplay are pretty much the same)

and more alien bastards to kill(by that i mean there are plenty of new alien types) if you have Steam you should look up "Ufo" and you should find ufo extraterrestrials hope you like it

  • this game was first realesed on the amiga slightly different music and graphics

  • what game is this?

  • Hell I think it's best to stick with the old music too! just update it, make it high quality and mabye add alittle in.

  • If only it was real, jeeze, and make it multiplayer while your at it :)

  • Give us XCOM with new graphics and sound. That's all I want!

  • Yes, that's it. Nothing like the good ol' XCOM. In all those UFO:Aftershock/light/math, UFO:Interceptor, Extraterrestrials......they tried to improve it and failed. Most of them are much much worse than the original. UFO:ET it's close but still worse (lots of bugs, lower number of soldiers, bad graphics, missing features.....)

We want the same thing, with up-to-date graphics and sounds (though a wider variety of weapons would be nice, too xDD).

  • Although to be fair the AfterX games are pretty cool if you can ignore the whole "supposed to be spiritual sequel to XCOM" thing.

  • The problem is that most of them (save for afterlight+shadowarrior's weapon rebalance mod) are actually worse than the original. Say UFO:Extraterrestrials. Worst game I ever bought. Really dissapointing.

They have this "cartoon" look I don't like. Where's the 20-men squad (not 6), all in uniform (not weird suits) with cool looking weapons (not the grotesque piece-of-whatever i.e reticulan launcher).

This one seems a bit more "professional". I'm really looking forward to trying it.

  • Worse than the original still leaves a lot of leeway for being a pretty good game, and I'd say they are, at times. Dunno about UFO:ET, didn't play that one.

    XCOM was very cartoony, graphicswise.

This video however, is just a mock-up of what a modern take on XCOM could look like - not an actual game...

  • You're right at point 1. They're sometimes good, but mostly at first. After some hours they become too repetitive (too much even for TBS standards).

For UFO:ET I wouldn't pay now a single euro (of course, in that moment I bought it original).

XCOM was cartoony but for the time, it was kind of inevitable. But I think now there are more possibilities....

Let's hope this idea develops into a game. A modern classic-XCOM I think is what most of us are waiting for.

  • Hey DJSonic can You please tell all us XCOm Fans where You got that kickass mix of the theme?! Did You Mix it Yourself?! if So You MUST Share it please!

  • dammit that is just cruel! SO awesome! this should already have been made! all we want is the same exact XCOM game with new gfx!

  • that's the best damn thing I've ever seen

now to find that music and die happy

  • that was prity cool!

  • Unfortunately it only in my dreams.

  • Yo whats the song man beautiful just beautiful

  • Awesome! If only it was a real version of the game.
