Looks like a Teisco Del Ray to me. I have a couple in various states of disrepair in my closet. They were a standing joke at the time - Nothing has changed except some strange nostalgia for $25 Japanese guitars. Crank it up -without strings - can you use it as a back-up microphone? Mine, the PU is so microphonic at high volume you can get make wild recordings out of it.
It's eather a Kay, top twenty, audition, don't let the fact they were sold in woolworths in the 60's and 70's they have a very bright lovely distnctive tone, play fairly well and a visually pleasing to look at :P they were all made my teisco anyway, so you still pretty much get the same quality
i have the identical guitar with a slightly different bridge (mine is all chrome). My headstock has a label on it that says "Silvertone" which was made by Teisco. It seems to have been purchased from sears by my uncles buddy.. Mine has 1968 stamped on the back of the pick guard. Though i've looked hard over the last few years... Ive not found anyone else with one exactly the same..
That same guitar was also sold under the KINGSTON and LYLE label as well as many other names too. It was a 'house brand' guitar for many outlets like Sears, Montgomery Wards, Aldens, Spencer Gifts etc. Probably made by Tokyo Electric (Teisco) or Motsomoku
I had an identical one to this with a tremolo unit made by AUDITION and yes they did sell them through Woolworths, my cousin told me it cost my uncle £12.00 in 1969
It's a Top Twenty, was my first electric, cost me £5 second hand from a friend who wanted the money to smoke weed in bout 1974
