you could try getting the lightest blond you can find and try bleaching them, but be sure its human hair and you don't bleach them too much or it will make them dry and icky looking :)

Maybe it was just to make her hair thicker.

A lot of people with a softer/longer type of hair also tend to inherate thin hair. It can be annoying to have length but no grip when you want to do certain styles.
